It snows in episode 2. In episode 4, the trees are bare and there's a hurricane

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2019 12:23 AM

Jock drives a Lincoln Mark V. Bobby and Pam are sharing Bobby's Mercedes 450 SL coupe. JR drives a Mercedes sedan. Lonely childless Sue Ellen drives a 1,000 lb 8 passenger Mercury Marquis Colony Station Wagon . . .

by Anonymousreply 2September 11, 2019 1:01 AM

Bobby finally bought Pam a car, a Corvette Stingray. Why would a woman who worked and lived own from several not have a car?

by Anonymousreply 3September 11, 2019 1:13 AM

That very first season of Dallas is incredible. Sue Ellen looks amazing in that late 70s way.

by Anonymousreply 4September 11, 2019 2:22 AM

Miss Ellie is a terrible enabler.

How do I turn on the subtitles?

by Anonymousreply 6September 11, 2019 2:58 AM

I think Sue Ellen’s station wagon was supposed to be Miss Ellie’s car in the miniseries, and they just didn’t correct it for a couple of seasons. Sue Ellen is a minor character in the miniseries-she isn’t in the credits and barely speaks in the first couple of episodes.

The car’s license plate is Ewing 2–Jock is Ewing 1, J.R. is Ewing 3 and Bobby is Ewing 4. It would make sense that it belongs to Miss Ellie, who doesn’t get a car of her own until season 10, when she starts driving a VW Cabriolet with he license plate Ewing 1.

by Anonymousreply 7September 11, 2019 3:06 AM

And yes I’m watching it too on prime.

The show’s writing is strong until the 83-84 season, when it begins to become repetitive. The women on this show are crappy mothers too.

Hit the down arrow on your remote. Play will be highlighted. Then scroll to the right, past play, fast forward, and next episode. Closed captioning is at the end on the right hand side.

Miss Ellie needs an 8 passenger vehicle equally as much as Sue Ellen. Actually even less. She never leaves the Southfork. By episode 13, She'd left maybe 3 times. Once for the lady's group meeting with Sue Ellen. From that meeting she went to the hospital. She then went to the 2nd hospital for Jock's surgery.

by Anonymousreply 10September 11, 2019 3:27 AM

Before streaming came on big I bought the whole series on DVD and spent the whole summer watching it. It was great. I remember watching the miniseries with my mom when it first aired.

Wood paneled station wagons were the equivalent of a luxury SUV in the 1970s, r10. And when the show began Miss Ellie and Jock were raising Lucy, who didn’t drive yet.

by Anonymousreply 12September 11, 2019 3:31 AM

[quote] The women on this show are crappy mothers too.

Miss Ellie is a crappy mother and grandmother. She enables JR and Jock. She neglects Lucy. High school student Lucy was skipping school and fucking 30 yr old ranch hand Ray Krebbs in the backyard. Miss Ellie and Jock couldn't figure that out.

Miss Ellie never leaves the house. She certainly was not taking Lucy to school nor anywhere else. They weren't raising Lucy. They were neglecting her. And Ellie still wouldn't need a 8 passenger vehicle; even is she did take Lucy somewhere.

Larry looks like a diehard alcoholic in OP's pic. Ray looks like he's got a missing or black front tooth.

I was a huge fan of Dallas 2012. Loved ancient Larry and was devastated when he died and also loved Josh Henderson, Judith Light and Mitch Pileggi in this. Was so sorry it was cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 14September 11, 2019 3:41 AM

Dallas 2012 bit ass.

by Anonymousreply 15September 11, 2019 3:49 AM

R12 , Lucy couldn't drive a car , but she Drove a mean stick shift .

by Anonymousreply 16September 11, 2019 3:52 AM

Bobby and Pam's bedroom shrinks with the set changes. Their bedroom set also changes. They initially have a french provincial set.

The patio includes a canary yellow wrought iron table and chairs (lime green cushions), a canary yellow telephone and a canary yellow flowerpot.

I always thought it was weird that JR and Bobby were grown men but still called their father “Daddy.”

I guess they though that would be right for the south. Like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and "Big Daddy,"

It's that way in Texas. It doesn't sound weird if you're used to it. I can't not call my dad "Daddy."

by Anonymousreply 23September 13, 2019 1:35 AM

What is the Dallas miniseries? I loved Dallas but I can't remember it all too well. Is it worth it to start from season 1?

by Anonymousreply 24September 13, 2019 1:36 AM

I only knew Barbara Bel Geddes from Dallas as a child; as an adult, I saw the 1958 film of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie and I was shocked to learn that Bel Geddes -- the matronly lady from Dallas -- had originated the role of Maggie on Broadway.

Linda Gray is EVERYTHING.

I love her jacked up teeth back then!!! They aren't perfect, they are kind of buck/crooked in a way- but its SEXY as fuck! And she really used her mouth a lot in her acting- the teeth were often bared. lol

And she has aged SPECTACULARLY. A gorgeous gem. I read her book, and she was SUPER positive and yet shockingly not boring.

Huge fan.

by Anonymousreply 26September 13, 2019 1:42 AM

I would fathom to guess that JOCK had a fairly enormous COCK!

by Anonymousreply 27September 13, 2019 1:49 AM

So Lucy 'lolita' Ewings relationship with Cliff, is it cool for a 15 year old and a 30something guy because it's the 70s? Does it only really count as taboo because he's her (secret) uncle or is the age thing a problem too?

Why are Bobby and Pam cool with running into her at the disco?

I don't care how much money's involved, living in THAT proximity to all of my family who've no boundaries isn't appealing. Never got why they kept expanding the nest.

by Anonymousreply 28September 13, 2019 1:54 AM

I didn't get it either, R28, especially as they all seemed to hate each other.

by Anonymousreply 29September 13, 2019 1:57 AM

They might have chosen the station wagon because Ellie and Sue Ellen were both so involved with the Daughters of the Alamo. Women involved in such organizations often drove station wagons and now SUVs, so they could drive other members or do other charity work.

[quote]I always thought it was weird that JR and Bobby were grown men but still called their father “Daddy.”

It is a Southern thing, I could never bring my self to call my father anything other than Daddy. My mother, her brother, and sister are all in their 70s, yet they still call their father, daddy. It is about respect, since no matter how old or successful you are, you are still his child, and your relationship will never be one of equals. Just like any older person I meet is automatically sir or ma'am.

Time Life is running a Dallas (The Complete Series) infomercial. At age 70, Patrick Duffy has decided to morph into Willie Nelson.

Who is the dude behind Hagman in the OP's pic ?

by Anonymousreply 35September 14, 2019 5:12 PM

A white International Scout as a ranch truck. I had one too. I felt so fancy in hs.

by Anonymousreply 36September 14, 2019 5:14 PM

I just watched episode 4. Why did Miss Ellie tell Jock to let those guys go after they raped and terrorized Sue Ellen?

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2019 1:03 AM

Why doesn't J.R want to fuck Sue Ellen? Is he fucking ranch hand Ray on the side?
