Charles Rocket- Why do you think he killed himself?
Eldergays, tell me a bit about him. I was born in the late 80s and just learned of this SNL alum that got fired for dropping the F bomb on Live TV. He was supposed to be the new Chevy Chase and was handpicked to be the shows star, even getting the most skits for that season.
It’s a shame that he dropped the F bomb and lost his job. Handsome guy too.
It wasn’t like it just slipped, he knew what he was doing.

He still had a career going afterwards but, jeez, he slit his own throat so it sounds like severe depression.

IIRC, he had a history of mental illness and depression.

Getting fired for one F-bomb seems excessively harsh.

Ridiculous. Madonna said it 13 times on Letterman. And she wasn't even funny. At least Charles was.

Hers were able to be bleeped as Letterman wasn’t actually live. R7
R6 the network gets a huge fine of that word is dropped.

Really handsome. Loved him in the Pat movie. SNL destroyed alot of talented people. And we are stuck with untalented people like Pete Davidson.

He killed himself 24 years after being fired, and amassed plenty of credits in that time.
Also, he wasn't the only one fired. He was just the only one fired for cause.
[quote]Due partially to the violation of broadcast standards, along with negative press regarding the new cast and declining ratings for both the series and the network in general, NBC replaced Doumanian with Dick Ebersol after one further episode. Ebersol, who placed the show on hiatus for a month to retool, dismissed Rocket, along with several of the writers and fellow cast members Gilbert Gottfried and Ann Risley, before the next episode. A writers' strike led to the suspension of the rest of the season, and when the show returned in October 1981, Joe Piscopo and Eddie Murphy were the only cast members who were held over from Doumanian's era. Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live revealed that Rocket was particularly hostile toward Murphy and Piscopo, as Doumanian had set him, Denny Dillon, and Gail Matthius to be the show's biggest stars, only to have all three receive mixed to negative reviews about their performances and to have Murphy and Piscopo upstage them all.

Did NBC get fined with creepy Kristen Stewart dropped the F bomb on SNL?

He was fired for saying fuck on Live TV. While it seems harsh now, in 1981 it was a huge deal.

R12 yes, but she’s a Guest Host, not main cast member.
Jenny Slate was also fired for saying fuck, but not right away. She got in trouble and they decided to fire her by the end of her debut season despite her being one of the more popular newer cast members.

Sam Rockwell also dropped the F bomb last year on SNL.

He was not even Jane Curtin caliber.

If he hadn't dropped the F bomb he likely still would've been fired with everyone else. The show was dreadful. Have you ever tried watching one of those 1980 episodes. They're practically inert.

Yes, this was not well known but he had it and couldn't cope with antiretroviral side effects.

You don't have to be gay to have AIDS. But whenever I hear about a suicide in a fairly young, successful person, I think they got a positive test result. Not only the shame involved, but it would hamper their sex lives- which is what they live for.

My response to this is how the SNL cast -- from the beginning seen as cutting edge and uncontrollable kids -- all seem so shocked by the use of "fuck," knowing, Ooooh you're going to get in trouble! Even Eddie Murphy's face shows shock. Eddie Murphy! But they knew to over their corporate overlords.
One would think that a cast of renegades would laugh, not be shocked.

I know its hard for millennials to believe, but there was a time when every other word out of most people's mouths was not an f-bomb, an n-bomb, a b-bomb, or an s-bomb. Yes, it was a big deal when he said it on live TV.

FCC regulations against profanity don't apply after 10pm, so SNL could literally say whatever they want, they just choose to be prudes.
Jenny Slate didn't get fired because of her F-bomb; she got fired because she sucked on the show.
