I'd be interested to read what irish citizens have to say, but I didn't get the impression that old Leo was too popular before all hell broke loose, but it just goes to show that you don't have to be Winston fucking Churchill - just show a little leadership, compassion and command of the subject matter to look brilliant in a crisis (though being attractive certainly doesn't hurt..) compares to Boris and Dump

Irish tabloids (or "red tops," as they're called, to distinguish them from 'respectable' former broadsheet newspapers that switched to tabloid format) are not nearly as vicious and aggressive as their British counterparts, and have been quite respectful to Varadkar overall. He used to go to Dublin's most famous gay bar, The George, quite a bit (and may still do--I know he's attended the drag shows there).
