The Sweetest Thing (2002)
"The Sweetest Thing" came and went, but it was one of the better Sex and the City derivative movies. A lot of reviewers clutched their pearls at this low-brow "adult sex comedy."
Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair and Christina Applegate wrote and performed "The Penis Song" - which was cut from the final edit.

Parker Posey had a surprisingly small role, and was only in one scene.

Love this film. The penis song is hysterical.

Christina Applegate looks radiant in this movie. She was glowing.

I remember the guy being hot that got his dick stuck in Selma Blair’s mouth.

Sexual Revolution played as Cameron danced around San Francisco

It’s 3 different movies spliced together. Only 1 of the 3 is entertaining.

I think it's really funny. In the last two decades we've seen a huge wave of these raunchy 'gross out' comedies, or 'sex comedies'. It's not high art but i'd rather watch this than The Hangover or Superbad or even something like Bridesmaids.
The three leads are very charming and have good chemistry. The penis song is funny and the scene where Cammy Di gets poked in the eye with a dick is simply hysterical. Selma Blair is a very underrated comedienne. Her performance in this is more low-key than the other two, but she nails the more awkward character who is constantly being humiliated. The scene where she's working in the store is so funny.
Good soundtrack too and it's always great to see Parker Posey.

It's funny that Parker Posey is the restrained one, and Selma Blair is doing all the physical comedy. Selma said she wanted to be like Gilda Radner growing up because she was also a skinny Jewish girl from Michigan not afraid to make a fool of herself.

This movie was so fun to watch when it came out, and I was worried it wouldn’t hold up on rewatch, but it totally does. Great cast, solid chemistry, just a great romp of the early 2000s.

R11 I actually didn’t like it when it came out but watched it recently and loved it. A lot of fun.

I thought the writer Nancy Pimental was destined for great success. But that didn't happen, did it?

All those early 00s Cameron Diaz films (like Charlie's Angels) have a lust for life and an energy that you don't see in mainstream shitty movies these days. They weren't masterpieces but they were genuinely fun and positive and nobody took themselves too seriously. Kind of infectious.

Dressing room montage with Georgia Engel and Cameron as Madonna and Olivia-Newton John, and Christina Applegate as Julia Roberts and Jennifer Beals.

R4 that super hot guy (who was meant to be hung and pierced - the piercing got stuck in Selma's throat) is Johnny Messner - I had a HUGE thing for him, he looks amazing in the Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid sequel

I recently saw Cameron in My Sister's Keeper because it arrived on Netflix streaming. I'd never seen it before. She was very good. Too bad she took the easy money and did sex comedy junk aimed at teen boys like The Sweetest Thing instead of being an actress.

R19 I saw 'Things You Can Tell Just By Looking at Her' the other day, an earlier indie film where she plays a young blind woman, and I was shocked at how good she was. Very moving performance and film. I knew she could excel in comedies like Being John Malkovich and Something About Mary, but her dramatic chops remain quite untapped. I think that's partly due to her choices though.
