Newest Windows 10 Update Takes FIVE HOURS To Install

Just to let everyone know, as that is how long it took for my installation. Right now, I don't really see any drastic change or difference.

So when you get that pop-up box saying "Please update now" just make sure you update when you are doing something else, as it will take five hours.

OP I think you are just stupid. I really do. Just back away from keyboard slowly

by Anonymousreply 1August 31, 2019 4:12 AM

OP did you listen to the handshake over your modem?

by Anonymousreply 2August 31, 2019 4:15 AM

I don't like the way the new file display.

Also, those kids need to get off my lawn.

by Anonymousreply 3August 31, 2019 4:18 AM

Mine took about two hours.

by Anonymousreply 4August 31, 2019 4:30 AM

Mine took 30 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 5August 31, 2019 4:34 AM

Mine took two hours, though it's true that 90% of my HD is filled with porn. Another laptop I updated today was finished within 30 minutes.

Thank you, op for this psa. I did not know and click update, which then took 24hrs and still nothing. Does anyone know how to disable the update and notification completely? I'm perfectly happy with windows 7, but it's just 10 everywhere these days.

by Anonymousreply 7August 31, 2019 5:12 AM

I've tried several times to disable automatic update, both with and without support, and have been unsuccessful. Now, whenever it updates, I go into settings and delete the updates.

Maybe if you uninstall Real Player it will work!

by Anonymousreply 11August 31, 2019 8:16 AM

I didn't time it but it was done in a matter of seconds, I hardly noticed.

by Anonymousreply 12September 1, 2019 3:03 AM

OP is working with a 2000 Compaq Presario?

by Anonymousreply 13September 1, 2019 3:14 AM

Speaking of Real Player. I Googled it and Real Player is still a thing.

I'm not terribly computer savvy so I'm going to have to get some help with this, but I installed Windows 10 in January because I was getting messages that previous Windows editions will no longer be supported. Now the Internet on my desktop (I use Chrome) is wonky and keeps crashing. I never had this problem before and I'm pissed about it.

by Anonymousreply 15January 31, 2020 7:33 PM

My immediate thought was, Who the fuck still has Windows? But then I remembered I have to ship my work laptop off for a replacement with Windows 10.

It's only get-off-my-lawn companies and get-off-my-lawn individuals (obsessed with their Norton Anti-Virus).

r15 Try the steps in this video; it's pretty comprehensive.

What an absurd statement. Most everyone here in Europe uses Windows. Nearly the entire public sector as well.

by Anonymousreply 18January 31, 2020 7:42 PM

Most of corporate America uses Windows!!! Please!

Linux, baby! Nothing is worse than being tied to Microsoft.

by Anonymousreply 20January 31, 2020 7:49 PM

Thanks R17.

I desperately hate it. All my Excel macros at work are screwed up, and the Helpdesk hasn't been able to help.

by Anonymousreply 22February 7, 2020 6:46 AM

I've never had any problem with updates.
