The wonderful Mary Kay Place

One actress that I'm always happy to see, no matter the part.

I watched the indie drama "Diane" last week and she was as good in that as she is in everything else. Plus she's a good singer and a writer (she wrote a couple of episodes of the original Mary Tyler Moore Show).

There's not much about her personal life anywhere. Is Mary Kay one of those under-the-radar Southern sapphic sisters?

Loved her in Tales of the City. At least the first one from 1993.

Is she cross-eyed or what.

by Anonymousreply 2August 29, 2019 6:41 AM

Yes, she's slightly cross-eyed. On her, it's charming.

I've wondered if she's gay, too.

Loved her as Loretta on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. In addition to MTM, she also co-wrote at least one episode of MASH, with Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, no less. Very interesting, but seemingly exceptionally private, person.

Everything she shows up in, she stands out in. Love her.

She was amazing on Big Love as the Prophet's (Harry Dean Stanton) head wife.

Citizen Ruth

The Big Chill

love her

She'd have been a better addition to "Designing Women" than Judith Ivey or Julia Duffy.

by Anonymousreply 9August 29, 2019 9:42 PM

Debra Jo Rupp is the poor man's Mary Kay Place.

by Anonymousreply 10August 29, 2019 9:42 PM

How was the movie OP?

by Anonymousreply 11August 29, 2019 10:40 PM

R9. Brilliant idea. Linda Bloodworth-Thomason should have asked you.

by Anonymousreply 12August 29, 2019 11:23 PM

She’s good in everything. I break into a smile when I see her name in the credits. Who else can do that? Sally Field. Jeffrey Tambor.

by Anonymousreply 13August 29, 2019 11:37 PM

She was the best part of Latter Days. She’s done a lot of gay-related projects so she seems like an ally if not gay herself.

r11 — I liked it. A quiet character study more than a major plot. It was on Hulu.

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2019 12:08 AM

I loved her as the cunty, but loveable Surgeon General on many episodes of The West Wing.

by Anonymousreply 16August 30, 2019 12:17 AM

Meh.

If I ever become a real estate developer and create my own subdivision, I'm gonna name one of the streets "Mary Kay Place."

by Anonymousreply 18August 30, 2019 12:31 AM

J'adore!

I'm convinced she's a stealthbian.

by Anonymousreply 19August 30, 2019 12:43 AM

I've always loved her, she turns up in the best of films.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2020 1:07 PM

And her country album, "Aiming to Please"! Her "Marlboro Man" is a classic.

"You must be stupid, Stupid, STUPID..."

by Anonymousreply 22March 14, 2020 1:39 PM

Nice joke on a recent Modern Family, when it was revealed Cam had been hounding his municipality to have their street renamed "Mary Kay Place".
