He's had too many rolls, that's why he's not getting any roles.

His father died of that condition that people were publicising with the ice challenge. I think it was Motor Neurone disease. He may have taken time out when the end loomed and in the aftermath of his father's death.

He came out as a moody, artsy bottom and folks lost interest. I’m not really sure why his career stalled so much. Even after he father died, he hasn’t been acting. For a twink (otter?) in Hollywood, he doesn’t seem to be marketing himself very well or even auditioning. Of course, he could be a very high class escort, which would more than sustain him.

How would you know if he's auditioning or not?

It's a pity that he doesn't work more, unlike other young actors he can act and it's not all about the looks

Two things that make DLers lose interest in a cute white male celebrity: 1) He comes out of the closet 2) He reaches the age of majority.

Agreed! I was not prepared for how moving that season -- and his performance were. It's still kind of astonishing to me that Disney's broadcast network aired such an interesting, well written show and dedicated its second season to the complexities of gay male desire, sexual mores and the [sometimes] blurred lines between aggressive sex and abuse.

It really is a shame that he isn't getting more work, he really was a standout in a uniformly excellent cast.

I still don't know who Connor Jessup is, except his acolytes use a great deal of bandwidth here on DL posting about him.

Not true. Quinto had to go crawling back to Broad Way. Colton used to get auditions for straight roles and they disappeared once he came out. (And Colton didn't put on weight straight away, so don't try that excuse). Ben Whishaw's movie career as a leading man is only indie/low budget fare.

Ben Wishaw is perfectly fine, he is getting lead roles on tv and indies and he was never destined to be a mainstream lead man, no matter if he is gay or straight.

And Quinto is a theatre guy, he had no problem in getting roles the same way he had no problem getting roles before

Coming out is not going to bust your career but it's not the kiss of death anymore

Maybe he has a regular job, like a capital project manager, factory operations supervisor, or insurance agent.

You could say the same about Dustin Hoffman. Or Benedict Cumberbatch. There are non-hunky/handsome leading men that break through regularly.

It's not about getting the roles, it's about not even being seen for the roles. Opportunity was taken away from him.

Quinto wasn't known as "a theatre guy" when women were creaming over him in HEROES, and when he got the STAR TREK gig. His only screen roles of note since have been a Ryan Murphy production and that SLAP remake of an Aussie original. That's quite a decline in terms of his screen work. Oh yeah, and he played James Franco's lover in a movie that nobody cared about.

Quinto is also in the horror show Nos4A2 which airs its second season soon.

Second, Quinto was not out before Heroes, but he struggled to get roles. Now he is not struggling at all

And yes, Dustin Hoffman is an unconventional leading man, but that doesn't men Wishawn was going to be. And he was the main character on london spy and he is working all the time.

And of course every actor has ups and downs. You are talking like if you come out you are suddenly blacklisted which is obviously false

The previous comment referred to movie leads in A-list/prestige fare. No "Bright Star" type projects for Ben in a long time. I don't think that's a coincidence. Even Luke Evans is back out of the closet 100% now that he's settled into playing cads, villains etc. No one needs to shed a tear for these men but it's not incorrect to point out that romantic leading roles in major projects disappear for out male actors.

He was so good on American Crime. I recently rewatched that season and am still astounded that it aired on American television, let alone on a major broadcast network.

R58 With the exception of a bit role in an undistributed indie movie last year, his IMDB has been completely dead since Love Simon. Not too farfetched to assume it’s not his priority anymore.

r59 - yes, but that's quite different than actively quitting the profession, which is a bit of an assumption to make. I thought he would have booked a lot more gigs since wonderful turn in American Crime, but he didn't. It's quite possible that other than Love, Simon and that other indie, things have been very dry for him, but not necessarily by choice. I'm sure we can all think of fine actors who "should have worked more..."

Couldn't Ryan Murphy or Greg Berlanti give him a job for life? I suppose Ryan has only one type but hoping anyway.
