Lord and Taylor, which still exists, is sold for $100mm

When was the last time anybody here shopped there?

I passed through one last week when I was in Boston and on my way to somewhere else. It was empty.

It was my go to store until last year when they sold the flagship store on 5th Ave. Most importantly was always civilized and not pretentious. The merchandise ran the gamut from reasonably priced trendy casual to higher end suits and everything in between. I wish it was still around.

Never exciting, but always reliable. The chain pulled out of Houston a long time ago.

Their new logo is a travesty.

Fat chance on getting $100m unless it’s the real estate value.

It was OK in the 80s. Even Macy's was OK in the 80s. A long time ago.

Ruined by May and never really revived afterward.

OP, I was in the Boston store early in the month. All I saw were some tourists and a few Back Bay biddies looking for something to do until they could begin drinking at lunch. Nice prices, actually, but very confusing inventory. Young and hip or staid and stately?

I took pictures in the 5th ave store on its last day. So sad. The May Company really did ruin it.

by Anonymousreply 8August 29, 2019 3:06 AM

I think New Yorkers are uninterested in such stores. Thus it failed and May tried to make a go of it.

by Anonymousreply 9August 29, 2019 3:09 AM

Oh my Lord and Taylor!

by Anonymousreply 10August 29, 2019 3:18 AM

I used to love their Christmas displays. So elegant and subtle.

Gay cunt Cal Partridge ran the Denver store into the ground.

They own The Bay which is the only Canadian department store. That's the only thing I know about them

Don't look at ME....

Actually I'm shocked the Bay still exists. Only very elderly people and immigrants shop there.

by Anonymousreply 15August 29, 2019 4:12 AM

R13 Actually, The Bay owned Lord and Taylor, not the other way around. In addition to The Bay, Canada has Holt Renfrew.

Bonnie M. ruined the Atlanta store .

by Anonymousreply 17August 29, 2019 4:57 AM

Atlanta ruined the Atlanta store. Conservative but gaudy is the Atlanta way. Not refined good taste.

by Anonymousreply 18September 2, 2019 12:18 AM

$100 mm seems cheap, doesn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 19September 2, 2019 1:19 AM

Even when I used to go to store I never walked into that store.

But I did like their Christmas window displays in NY.

I used to go to store.

by Anonymousreply 21September 2, 2019 1:30 AM

Ha - I deserved that R21. That's what I get for writing quickly.

by Anonymousreply 22September 2, 2019 1:34 AM

The Bay also own Saks Fifth Avenue.

by Anonymousreply 23September 2, 2019 1:39 AM

My mother would always take us into the Boston store as kids, such a nice memory. The redesigned logo at R3 is so incredibly bad, I’m sure Lord & Taylor is not long for this world.

What has Hudson's Bay not run to the ground?
