I've been watching this old TV show called Medical Center

It's set in an LA University Hospital in the late 60s. Interesting show, but look at this guy. He was born in the 1937, which makes him grandfather age now. But, isn't he gorgeous? His name is Chad. Which goes to show you that even back then most Chads are hot. He died a few years ago.

He plays Dr. Gannon that young, talented doctor on staff. Yum!

Totally remember him, one of my first TV crushes. I thought his name 'Chad' was so cool! Didn't know he died.

by Anonymousreply 1August 25, 2019 2:15 AM

MC really cooked in the 70's.

Robert Reed as the 1st tv transsexual

And yes Chad Everett was hot. .

by Anonymousreply 2August 25, 2019 2:18 AM

One of the few celebrities who looked good through his entire life. Just a few years before he died, he did a semi-nude scene , and he still looked good.

His co-star on "Medical Center" was John Daly, Tyne and Tim's dad. Rumored to be bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 3August 25, 2019 2:19 AM

It's JAMES Daly, you fat stupid whore ... and he was as gay as a goose!

by Anonymousreply 4August 25, 2019 2:24 AM

Check out Trapper John MD -- at least for the episodes that co-star DL icon Lorna Luft as Nurse Libby Kegler.

by Anonymousreply 5August 25, 2019 2:25 AM

I loved Medical Center. OP where are you watching this show at? I would love to see it. I always wanted to suck Dr. Gannon off.

by Anonymousreply 6August 25, 2019 2:25 AM

I preferred Daly.

by Anonymousreply 17August 25, 2019 2:43 AM

Elder here. There was a big scandal in the movie magazines back in the day, he allegedly had a love child with some nurse named Sheila, as I recall. That kind of thing was hot stuff back then.

Chad was so fuckin hot! As he got older he got hotter and that is a rare thing. He was in the movie Mullholland Drive with Naomi Watts, and I had never seen him before. I was like, "Where the fuck did they find this guy and why isn't he a huge star?" He was probably in his late 50's. That pic above is how he looked. I now know he was a big star who semi-retired in the 70's I think.

A lot of people realize that Hollywood is not all it's cracked up to be. So, they bail to have a normal life, a sober life, a wholesome family life, whatever.

by Anonymousreply 22August 25, 2019 3:00 AM

R16 ! 60's!! HE was 64! Jesus christ he looked good. Rob Lowe must've drank his blood!!!!

by Anonymousreply 23August 25, 2019 3:03 AM

No mention of his feud with Lily Tomlin. They were on uber twit Dick Cavett's show and Everett called his wife his "property." Lily walked off the show because of it.

It was a good episode.

Chad got one of his first big breaks from director George Cukor who cast him in a small role in The Chapman Report (1962). Chad also attended Cukor's famous all-male pool parties, where Hollywood eldergays got to meet the new trade in town.

by Anonymousreply 31August 25, 2019 3:42 AM

Chad used get all the 70s housewives pussies wet when Medical Center came on.

He sounded like Clark Gable and was much better looking my mother used to say.

by Anonymousreply 32August 25, 2019 3:42 AM

I believe he played Clark Gable in something.

by Anonymousreply 33August 25, 2019 3:44 AM

R33 here, oops, sorry, that was James Brolin that played Gable. I used to mix him and Chad up even back then.

Most likely gay as a Christmas goose. His agent was Henry Wilson, most of whose clients were closet cases (first hint). He wore his trousers so tight you could tell what religion he was (second hint). He was exceptionally handsome (third hint). He (or Henry Willson actually) chose the stage name "Chad" (fourth hint).

Ironically, r33/r34, when the GWTW sequel book, "Scarlett", came out, Chad was the the fan favorite to play Rhett in the eventual movie (of course, he lost out to Tim Dalton).

by Anonymousreply 44August 26, 2019 1:42 AM

This show is fascinating. I realize it's a TV show, but I'm fascinated how they keep patients in the hospitals for weeks to run tests. And no one ever discusses insurance. Again I know it's a TV show and it's 1970, but it's strange. These patients staying in the hospital for test after test must be creating quite the hospital bill.

I love how Dr. Joe always fights with Dr. Lochner and the patients or their familes, but he usually saves the day.

Lots of teenage unrest and drug storylines.

R45 No one worried about health insurance back then or even thought twice about it. It was just there. Everyone had it.

by Anonymousreply 47August 26, 2019 2:01 AM

Back then a private hospital room cost $125.00/day unlike today's room at $1500.00/day (and more). You could go to the dentist and get a tooth pulled for $25.00. Today it will cost you $250.00+ if you're paying out of pocket.

No HIPPA, everybody just told everybody’s business.

Sometimes doctors just dealt with the husband concerning the wife’s diagnosis and care.

Yes R51. In one episode this husband decided that his wife should have an abortion. She wanted to have the baby. And they told the husband everything about the wife's condition without her being present. Very weird.

by Anonymousreply 53August 26, 2019 2:30 AM

[quote] Why isn't this on MeTV or Antenna TV?

These old series aren't free. The networks are charged horrendously high prices for the rights to run these programs. They have to pick and choose based on their programming budgets.

by Anonymousreply 54August 26, 2019 2:38 AM

He reminded me of the only porn star who got better as he aged...Jimmy Pike.

by Anonymousreply 55August 26, 2019 2:47 AM

r42 It's genetics, because Chad was a raging alcoholic and it didn't affect his looks at all. Someone like Hugh Grant, looks like shit and shouldn't. I assume Hugh drinks.

by Anonymousreply 58August 26, 2019 2:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 59August 26, 2019 3:06 AM

R45, up into the 80s you could tell the hospital that you couldn't pick up Grandma from the hospital until the weekend so she'd have to stay there, and they'd say okay!

by Anonymousreply 60August 26, 2019 3:40 AM

R54 So the Andy Griffith show must be dirt cheap because it’s the one show constantly running on these nostalgia channels.

by Anonymousreply 63August 26, 2019 3:56 AM

R61, MASH must be free.

Along with Andy Griffith, Hogan’s Heroes and Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 64August 26, 2019 4:06 AM

MASH, god yes.

I am an elder, and I have never once seen a single episode in its entirety. I simply refuse.

by Anonymousreply 65August 26, 2019 4:18 AM

I have become absolutely addicted to Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 66August 26, 2019 4:26 AM

I don't know if this is the case why it isn't in syndication, but the show is "problematic" in places. I guess they could edit those things out. But in the very first episode with OJ Simpson they freely use the N-word. I mentioned the problem with married women having very little say in their own medical treatment. They discuss abortion and drug use. They even showed one kid using IV drugs.

The show is dated but interesting. They tell some pretty frank stories for that time period. Surprised that some of this even made it on network TV. Lots of things to trigger a national audience in each episode.

by Anonymousreply 67August 26, 2019 4:31 AM

I’ve heard the N word used on Adam-12.

Back then I don’t think it got the same attention it does now.

by Anonymousreply 68August 26, 2019 4:35 AM

Are the leads of these shows using the N-word? Is it black character referring to each other with the N-word? Or is it racist villains using the N-word?

by Anonymousreply 69August 26, 2019 2:23 PM

It was the white guy who was playing OJ's teammate using the word. Hot Dr. Joe didn't say it, but he was in the room.

by Anonymousreply 70August 26, 2019 2:29 PM

[quote] [R54] So the Andy Griffith show must be dirt cheap because it’s the one show constantly running on these nostalgia channels.

No, it's not cheap. It's just that it (and MASH) are major money makers for whoever runs the shows, so the price they have to pay is worth it.

The Britcoms that PBS runs all over the country cost each station hundreds of thousands of dollars for each show. And that's why PBS has to have so many week long pledge drives.

by Anonymousreply 71August 26, 2019 2:39 PM

R71 I could see that, except episodes of those two shows have run back to back for years and years and YEARS now. They're really such moneymakers still?

by Anonymousreply 72August 26, 2019 4:31 PM

Networks are paying license fees of $25,000.00 and up PER EPISODE of retro TV series.

I just watched the "homosexual" episode. This was done in 1970. This hospital received a letter about a doctor at the hospital stating that he was homosexual. They all treated it like it was the worst thing ever, even Dr. Joe said some not so PC things about being gay. The doctor in question was gay and came out to Dr. Joe. The gay doctor said that yes he was homosexual, but "fortunately" one of the kind that you can't tell.

Very strange episode and not for people who get offended easily.

[R18] Although Chad Everett was never determined by the courts to be the father of the boy, a blood test showed a 95% probability that he was. I wonder how he and his wife Shelby Grant, lived with this reality their whole entire marriage of 45 years. It is said and there are videos showing that they were happily married up until Shelby died in 2011.

I understand Sheila Scott made Chad and his family’s lives a living hell up until she died in 2018. I understand the child (Dale) died in a car accident in 2017. Even after Chad died in 2012 she harassed his children for their DNA samples to prove her son Dale was Chad’S son. I feel sorry for Chad even though I do believe the child was his. One time in bed (as a matter of fact) with Sheila shouldn’t have led to a lifetime of anguish and heartache for Chad and his family. I am most sorry for Shelby and wonder how she stayed with Chad and lived the lie her entire life. Her children were grown, she could have left but didn’t. I wonder....was it true love or something else!

I must say, I am and always have been a big fan of Chad Everett. It makes no difference to me that he fathered the young boy. Chad was a mess in his early days and I would like to believe he cleaned up his act as he got older and after he stopped drinking.

I am a believer in “happily ever after”. I would like to believe Chad and Shelby died madly in love with each other and they left that legacy for their children.

Does anyone on the site have any other pertinent details or information that they would like to share on this subject?

by Anonymousreply 86October 30, 2020 5:34 PM

R37... in regards to henry wilson and his clients.. 2 of his client's "cal bolder" and the one and only Clint walker were both straighter than straight, so not all of his beefcake was available...

loved chad on medical center, wore his work pant scrubs and his not working pants very snug! flawless chiseled face and complexion and big baby blue eyes, like kent mccord from adam -12... i think the pancake makeup and the film used made their tanned handsome faces that much more perfect and brought out those great eyes of theirs!..

I REMEMBER ONE EPISODE OF 'medical center" that was hot sexy and even pervy for it's time and even now... basically some young girl not even sure if she was of legal age, was accusing him of having sex with her and she was pregnant with his child and she was such a believable liar people were questioning if it was true, and the girl had some commenting on his character acting and being sexy/sexual and very affectionate and started to believe her over him... his character was so bad at defending himself and acting dumb as a rock in this matter, it led the viewer to think the girl was telling the truth.... she more or less accused him of not being to get enough of her! a young thing like her?! it was pretty outrageous but yes dirty hot of a episode, seeing the two together in scenes and knowing the accusation she was making! awesome visuals of handsome sexy grown man chad and her possibly doing the deed over and over again!

...in the end, though, she was found out she was lying and while pregnant it was from her on and off again boyfriend who himself was barely of age if that...

by Anonymousreply 87October 30, 2020 6:07 PM

R86. It’s been said that Chad was gay on the down low. Don’t know for sure. He was married and had 2 kids and a son by some bit actress as you mention.

I imagine once gay always gay.
