I've always found him very sexy in his younger days. He was never traditionally handsome by Hollywood standards but he did have an offbeat sexy appeal. He also had a very hairy chest and judging from his facial features am guessing that he has a rather large penis. I've been reading a lot of rumors that he is gay and that he frequents steam rooms. Does anyone know if he has a close relationship with his son? I've always had an attraction to these types of Jewish men.
He did have a sexy, goofy vibe for a long time.

Robert Altman gave a quote about him that was interesting. He said he came along at a time when the counterculture wanted a leading man that looked sillier than a classic leading man. He felt that Gould only could have been a star in that short window between the late 60's and mid 70's.

I always thought he was cute as Monica's dad on Friends.

Usually Jewish men age fast and hit the wall hard. He actually looked quite good as he grew older.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 20, 2019 5:11 PM |
So not gay.

When he appeared on Broadway in I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE he sweated so much that he had to have three or four duplicates of his costumes. It was a problem for him. He just dripped sweat.

Always one of my favorites. My young gayling heart would flutter when I saw that hairy chest.

Hottie, Grade A+. My admiration began after seeing the film "Bob, Ted, Carol, and Alice". I believe I've got the title right.

He was great in Goodbye Columbus.

He had to suffer through an entire season of being married to Linda Lavin.

r16 Elliot Gould and Richard Benjamin are both awkward, nerdy Jews, but they don't look like each other.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 20, 2019 6:04 PM |
NOT GAY, OP. There were never rumors about Gould cruising steam rooms unless you made them up. He may "sound" a little gay because he's Jewish and from New York...a lot of the people here suspect every Jewish guy is gay. Gould gets along very well with his son Jason now, initially he blamed Jason's homosexuality on being brought up around too many women. If you want to see Gould's package, he's in BVDs at the end of Bob & Carol & Alice. Looks very average.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 20, 2019 6:04 PM |
I see that, R3. However, Gould could have remained a star the way other ethnics like Dustin Hoffman did. He self-destructed a year after MASH in 1971 with drugs and mental illness in the canceled A Glimpse of Tiger. Uninsurable for two years. When he came back in 1974, it was over.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 20, 2019 6:14 PM |
I agree! Not "handsome", per say, but damn he was sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 20, 2019 6:28 PM |
I just watched that film, R22. I'd never seen it and found him so sexy in it. Candice Bergen was such a beauty.

He was terrible as Ray's whiny mentor in "Ray Donovan." One of his worst performances ever.

Love him in Altman's Long Goodbye and California Split. He was oddball cute.

The Zachary Quinto of his day. In terms of looks that is.

R30, Sorry I don't see the similarities.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 21, 2019 12:37 AM |
Of the lesser known Elliott Gould movies I recommend the film of the Jules Feiffer play, Little Murders (1971), that Gould was in at the tail end of his initial stardom.
Little Murders a dark dark dark New York comedy directed by Alan Arkin, co-starring Marcia Rodd, Doris Roberts and Vincent Gardenia. Donald Sutherland has a cameo scene as a priest, and Doris Roberts and John Randolph have a very funny scene as Gould's parents.
Another lesser known Gould film I liked a lot even though it sucks - S*P*Y*S (1974) co-starring Donald Sutherland. They're CIA. Totally tasteless insanity.

In his old age, he and George Segal kind of meld together in my mind.

How did he go nuts back in the day? It’s known he liked drugs. Iirc he married his young, pregnant girlfriend the same day as his divorce from Barbra.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 22, 2019 3:41 PM |
He spoke at a showing of the awful Ingmar Bergman (!) movie he made, "The Touch." He was very likable--and he's BIG--like a huge teddybear..
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 22, 2019 3:46 PM |
No, R38, they did not get married until a few years later. He and Streisand had been legally separated for two years when they got the final divorce in 1971.
Pic of Gould and young girlfriend/future wife below. You can excuse their appearance because they were high high high 24/7. I don't know how mentally screwed up Gould really was, but he saw a shrink five days a week (on Streisand's dime when they were married) and blamed his problems on his parents, specifically his stage mother, and just about everyone else in every interview in 1970.

This was the show that was a backdoor pilot on The Brady Bunch.
Unfortunately, Elliott was no Robert Reed.

I never paid much attention to him, until I met him in person at a private fundraiser for a film festival. He's one of the most charming and charismatic men I've ever met. I was shocked at how sexy he was. I can see why Barbra married him.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 22, 2019 4:53 PM |
It dawned on me only recently that 2 of the 3 stars of Capricorn One were or would be married to Barbra Streisand. Now if she would only marry OJ we’d have a hat trick.

Not quite. “Kelly’s Kid’s” starring Ken Berry never happened. This was 15 or so yrs later.
[quote] Ken Berry (born 3 November 1933) made a guest appearance on The Brady Bunch as Ken Kelly, a friend and neighbor of the Bradys who adopts three boys of different racial/ethnic backgrounds in the episode "Kelly's Kids" in Season 5, the show's final season; the episode had been intended by the producer Sherwood Schwartz to be a backdoor pilot for a possible spinoff series which never materialized.

I could see Timmy playing a grown-up "cute" Jason in a Gould or Streisand biopic.

He was no Jon Peters, who's cock was legendary around Hollywood. The top female stars were all fighting each other to take a ride on his King Kong dong.

His movie Getting Straight with Candace Bergen was a big hit and ended up kind of forgotten. Brilliant film packed with experimental camerawork that became standard to cinema. (The camerawork is dated but all the techniques they were playing with became more polished in time). Great performances. Director went on to do Oscar nominated classic The Stunt Man.
