Rutger Hauer Dead at 75

Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the ’70s who went on star in the 1982 “Blade Runner” as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

by Anonymousreply 1July 24, 2019 6:15 PM

He had a hot ass, but he couldn't live forever.

R2 I hope they say that in his eulogy.

There's already a thread

by Anonymousreply 5July 24, 2019 6:27 PM

Which didn't show up in a search, R5, as we have said hundreds of times over several months.

Until someone fixes the problem, you're gonna get duplicate threads. Deal.

by Anonymousreply 6July 24, 2019 6:34 PM

That poster is merely pointing out an existing thread, so there's really no need for a freakout.

by Anonymousreply 7July 24, 2019 6:38 PM

You also forgot to add the classic Dataloungism ("dead to me") in the title, OP.

by Anonymousreply 8July 24, 2019 6:40 PM

Oh, wither away and die, self-appointed Hall Monitress at r8. No one is here to play the little repetitive meme games you're trying so bossily to enforce.

by Anonymousreply 9July 24, 2019 6:52 PM

No, R5, that's a replicant thread.

by Anonymousreply 10July 24, 2019 6:53 PM

He was so hot as Roy Batty (those sexy running shorts!), but he aged pretty roughly. Even for 75, which is old, he looked even older. He must have lived a very hard-partying life.

by Anonymousreply 11July 24, 2019 6:54 PM

Temper, temper, R9.

Without Hall Monitresses, DL will descend into anarchy and chaos.

by Anonymousreply 12July 24, 2019 7:02 PM

He had his own AIDS foundation, so I wonder if he died of AIDS complications.

I am sorry to lose him. He was unforgettable in "Blade Runner."

by Anonymousreply 13July 24, 2019 8:32 PM

Dutch men are usually incredibly ugly, he was not bad.

by Anonymousreply 14July 24, 2019 9:04 PM

The search function works perfectly well. Did you even try it?

by Anonymousreply 15July 24, 2019 9:06 PM

R8 is triggered! Look out, bitches. This pussy is gonna blow.

by Anonymousreply 16July 24, 2019 9:10 PM

Is there any information for the cause of death?

He was not afraid of doing nude scenes.

by Anonymousreply 17July 24, 2019 9:10 PM

He was stunning in The Hitcher. Sexual, crazy persona.

by Anonymousreply 18July 24, 2019 9:15 PM

Someone pointed out ironically that Roy Batty died in 2019 too.

by Anonymousreply 19July 24, 2019 9:16 PM

Art imitating life. That is awesome. Maybe it was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

by Anonymousreply 20July 24, 2019 10:34 PM

This really saddens me.

He was Sex.On.Legs. back in the day! Not just in Blade Runner, either. I remember first seeing him playing Albert Speer in the miniseries based on Speer's book. So hot!

R.I.P., Roy.

by Anonymousreply 21July 24, 2019 11:05 PM

Oh, man, I loved him. So good in Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, The Hitcher... I had a poster of him in "Wanted: Dead or Alive" for a looonng time.

He turned into my grandmother in his last years!

by Anonymousreply 23July 25, 2019 3:50 AM

The other thread had more posts because it used the proper Dead To Me format.

Fuck you, OP

by Anonymousreply 24July 25, 2019 9:09 PM

My favorite was the Hitcher, fun little thriller. Siskel and Ebert picked up on the S&M undercurrent between Hauer and C. Thomas Howell, but said the movie isn't honest about it and only hints at it.

by Anonymousreply 25July 25, 2019 10:21 PM

The Hitcher is full of UST/subtle hoyay and I loved it for that. A full grown man keeps chasing a young twink after a chance encounter, kills the female love interest in a horrifically brutal way, gets caught and then tries to kiss the twink in front of a room full of cops, and hums a song about a man in love ("Bicycle Built for Two") on his way to jail.

by Anonymousreply 26July 25, 2019 10:55 PM

Agreed, R26. I found RH equally sexy and creepy in it, plus the cinematography is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 27July 25, 2019 11:05 PM

Roger Ebert gave zero stars to The Hitcher.
