Why haven't there been any in modern times?
Pete looking handsome

He looks great with a beard! Stunning even. Does wonders for his face.
Did a bit of research, and our last bearded president was Benjamin Harrison, who served from March 1889 to March 1893. The last bearded candidate who ran, and lost, was Republican Charles Evans Hughes in 1916. The source below states that beards went out of fashion politically during the rise of counterculture in the 60s. Candidates didn't want to be associated with hippies or American enemy Fidel Castro, and the trend persists today.

It may be unfair, but I usually have the sense that a man with a beard is trying to hide something. They remind me of despots like Castro or Saddam Hussein. I guess I'd vote for a bearded lady if it would come down to it, though. Any beard is better than that tragic bird's nest on the orange shitgibbon.

r2 Interesting, thanks. I think it's a shame but image and perception is everything, I guess. Just look at the results of the poll; if almost a third is against it on a gay message board, it's probably even worse among the general population.

King Camp Gillette who invented the first mass produced disposable razor in 1901 was a big part of the reason why beards went out of fashion last century. Their fate was sealed by World War 1, where soldiers were required to be clean-shaven.

R2, he's got a bit of a problematic chin, so a beard helps

King Camp Gillette is an excellent name!

You mean REAL bearded. That is a beard without a mustache?

The source is dead wrong. Think about it. The last president to have a beard was 1916, yet events some 50 years later was the root cause of why?
It’s the same reason politicians generally are not mustachioed—as R4 points out, a lot of people have a subconscious “he’s hiding something” vibe.

Correction—The last president with a beard was 1893, not 1916.

Aby baby was so ugly he had to marry a crazy woman to get a fuck

R10 The source didn't say it was the root cause. The source just mentioned [italic]a[/italic] cause.

R12, but that ugliness helped him with a great comeback in a debate.

Wow! What a great picture of Pete, the best one I've ever seen!

Until the world produces another Grace Bedell, there will be no more bearded presidents!
