I've never seen a more beautiful man than Alain Delon in his prime. Jared Leto looks like a mutant by comparison.
Alain Delon is so beautiful, it's disturbing. I can't possibly nominate anyone to compare. I read that he was a male prostitute in his early years. His line of colognes is actually rather nice.

Yes, I think no one will ever hold a candle to him.
He should have donated his sperm. Thousands of sperm banks around the world should have given out his sperm instead of that ugly community college math teacher.

Model Christian Hogue, perhaps. Well-proportioned people with dark hair and light eyes are usually very memorable.
Most male models (of the classic tall beefcake type) are by definition more beautiful than most actors.
But it's often hard to focus on models' beauty because many are OTT navel-gazing (even more so than actors). It makes their beauty seem trivial.

Interesting addition, R85. Antinous was reputed to be very handsome indeed. But hardly a "man" - more a teenage boy. He died aged only about 18.
I like how they use the euphemism "boy favorite" to describe him on that website. He was more likely a teenage concubine. He was only around 13 and his probable sugar-daddy, Hadrian, was 48 when they met. (Pederasty with young teens was socially allowed back then.) And in just 5 years, Antinous was dead at only 18, before even reaching full manhood. Very unfortunate.

Henry Cavill during his peak (Tudor period).
Standard of Classical beauty. Perfect proportions. The Greeks & Romans would have made statutes of him. But peak beauty fades very quickly (esp. in Cavill's case). He's still decently handsome now (he didn't lose his looks completely like Brooke Shields), but there's something aesthetically / visually missing now. He's not breathtaking like he was in his younger days.

Ha, I actually had Bomer in mind, R157. Definitely handsome. But, to my taste, he also has a slightly comical look. A high forehead that seems a little bit big for his head proportions and a very peculiar stare that often varies between 'surprised-looking' and slightly psychotic.
He's beautiful, without question. But he has a very odd intense stare that always unsettles me and makes me think he has a BDSM dungeon. 50 Shades is a very silly book, but he would have been perfectly cast as a somewhat psychotic-looking dapper billionaire. He could also easily reprise the role of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Have you seen him act? He was a flop in AHS Hotel, where he had a juicy part as a heroin addict turned vampire. He even had actors like Kathy Bates (as his mother) on screen with him. He had no spark. Dull, dull, dull. Finn Wittrock should have been given Bomer's role.

If I had to pick one, it would be Warren Beatty in his prime. And as much as I hate to say it, Mitt Romney is so good looking in his late 60s that it is shocking. Pictures of him as a younger man standing with others and his sticks out like a beacon.
But there are so many- I loved Mel until age a bloat got him. Brandon de Wilde was beautiful. Then there are lots of guys like John Gavin- oh and Anthony (Tony) Hamilton has to be the best looking man I ever saw in person. Then there was Joe MacDonald...

I'll give you the crazy eyes thing but I think White Collar proved he can act within his element.
As soon as Lady Gaga signed on to the show the entire plot of the series was changed to suit her for that season. IIRC the original plot pitched to the actors was a "civil war" horror show. After she signed on, everyone took a back seat to her and nearly all of the plots and characters revolved around her. While I do think Bomer comes across as dull, after he showed his naked ass in the first episode a few times, his role was basically done & his character was relegated to reacting off of everyone else. There wasn't much for him to do. The same goes for Finn Wittrock who is usually wonderful & Even Cheyenne Jackson. They wasted Naomi Campbell. Angela Bassett should have been playing the Countess rather than having to dumb down her acting in front of Lady Gaga.

When all is said and done, however, I agree with OP--Alain Delon in his youth was flawless--a truly beautiful young man without being too pretty. His best movie, if you've never seen it, was IMO "Le Samourai." He'd already lost his youthful bloom but it's his best acting along with other films directed by J.P. Melville. I think I'll watch it again. But in Purple Noon (Plein Soleil in French) from 1960 he is stunningly gorgeous, especially in the over-saturated color of that film.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | July 15, 2019 8:48 PM |
R158 He's very handsome when his expression is neutral, but I agree that he does sometimes have a case of crazy eyes. Also and interviews he has a tendancy to make over exaggerated faces that are a bit weird. It's kind of funny that he can go from looking angelic to "psycho starey eyes" in a second. I would love to see him using that while playing a villian.

There's a "Where are they now?" report on Tab from the 1970s that can be seen on YouTube. In the report, the reporter makes a point of saying that Tab lives with his (male) secretary. I somehow doubt that he came out at long last in the 90s/00s to get ahead of a story. He was hiding in plain sight.

Before kindergarten in the early 60s, my mother and I watched Jack Lalanne's show every day. She (like all the other housewives) did all of the exercises while I stared at him and wondered why that low-cut shirt didn't open up and let me see his nipples. It drove me crazy. If he had gone bare-chested, I would have rushed through puberty in 60 seconds and shoot a load in my Bozo underwear.
Yes, even then I knew I was gay.

Russell Johnson, the Professor on Gilligan's Island. He only appeared shirtless three times on the show. This was the first of them (well, close enough).

R281, either Philip I of Castile, Archduke of the House of Habsburg (a.k.a. Philip ‘the Fair’ or ‘the Handsome’) wasn’t as beautiful as they said - or his court painters were amateurs with cataracts for eyes.
Because he looks rather mediocre in his painted portraits. He's definitely better-looking than many of the following Habsburgs (I guess it depends on the point of reference), but that's still damning with faint praise. Because many of the Habsburgs were incredibly ugly.
And his wife, Queen Joanna (Juana) ‘the Mad’ of Castile, probably refused to part with his coffin - not because he was that beautiful in life, but because she was possibly [italic]clinically insane[/italic], as her moniker implied.

I was only allowed one Coke per week as well, R321. My brother-in-law was not so lucky. He had five brothers and sisters and they all received a juice glass of Coke on Friday nights, and that was all for the week.
We went to a fast food restaurant maybe once a month. My parents saved so we could have a two week vacation every year, and the neighborhood kids would be jealous and mean when that time came around.
There were only two kids who could be considered fat in my grade school class. That has paid off in dividends as we grew older. None of us has had a serious illness in 40 years.

My female lunch date said the guy behind me could give JFK Jr a run for his money in the looks department. The guy John was with overheard and began to laugh. John turned around to look at our table and smiled. Maybe the best looking man I've ever seen. When he left he smiled at us again, said have a nice day and walked out. Kennedy Jr had his father's misaligned eyes (Strabismus): when the eyes (pupils) look in slightly different directions. In Kennedy's case, outward directions / away from each other. The son didn't have it as bad as the dad, but still.
That was the REAL Kennedy curse.

Pairing those two together made me think of how neither would be on a "Great Beauty" thread if it weren't for their status as royalty (or pseudo royalty in the man's case). Neither would have made a splash as a model or movie star pinup.

I was looking at an online list of the most handsome celebrities. They mentioned Robert Downey Jr, Jon Bon Jovi and Christian Bale. All of these guys look fine but they certainly are not exceptionally handsome.

R392. You are well informed from a medical standpoint but I think having your head shot off or being broken in half in a plane crash might considered to be somewhat worse than having your eyes point in slightly different directions.

I agree. Though I’m not sure what this has to do with me.
ANYWAY...I'm adding Hemsworth to my list. And I HATE blonde dudes.

R406 Okay, Chris Hemsworth has a great body, but I never found his face to be anything special. However, he has such an amazing presence and personality. I’ve seen a handful of interviews he has given and the guy has charisma for days. It definitely makes him more attractive! Confidence always adds to the appeal factor.

It's really more who is the most beautiful famous man of all time.
Taste is subjective, of course.
My initial off the cuff vote goes to Paul Newman & probably Mel Gibson in their prime.
They were so beautiful.
You'd marry Paul, of course, but fuck Mel.

Mel stopped being beautiful to me around the time Tequila Sunrise came out. That's when I started hearing he was a homophobe. That's 1988. I haven't had any desire to fuck him since then, and I think that's the last of his movies I saw.

From what I see here, the four most common determining factors for "most beautiful man" seem to be:
1. He's young.
2. He has abundant blond or highlighted hair, or else very dark hair.
3. Hard body.
4. Most likely white.
What a surprising set of qualifying criteria!
by Anonymous | reply 497 | February 16, 2020 12:46 PM |
Beauty is a product of culture. This country has a majority of white people. More of you count Latinos who are often white skinned. Therefore "white" being in the criteria is not all that surprising.
If you please people in China about the most beautiful woman in their eyes, they might come up with somebody who looks Chinese.
R497 so what's your point?

by Anonymous | reply 500 | February 16, 2020 3:17 PM |
R497 so post men you think are beautiful! I don't have to play these guessing games to try to figure out what you want. I post what I like and you post what you like. No one has to be shamed for liking the adult men they like. Shaming won't change it deep down anyway.
Go ahead post Idris Elba or Jpop Kpop or WHOEVER you think is hot. No one is stopping you! Who is stopping you? Who? In fact it's welcomed but you won't post, will you? Nope! All talk by a Russian Troll to sow racial discord when most people are busy living their lives happily and don't need to tell other people what to like and what not to like.
All the posts from race baiters are Russian trolls. They think we're stupid fall for their propaganda when in reality we have interracial relationships and sex all the time. Just ignore the trolls guys.
