He will be playing the title role in "The Invisible Man" for Universal Studios. The old horror movie is being reconfigured for the #MeToo era. Elizabeth Moss will costar.

His publicists are milking this for all it's worth, but I'm told in reality it's quite a small part with very little screen time, and yes, mostly voiceover. Elisabeth is the lead character.
This is not part of the same reboot universe of the 2017 Mummy bomb. Blumhouse is currently working behind the scenes to get control over some of those old Universal Monsters properties and is hoping to revitalize them into a big shared universe franchise, and the production house is already talking sequels for this one. The Avengers of horror, if you will.

The Mummy was also supposed to kick off a new era of monster movies featuring Universal's fabled lineup. Johnny Depp was announced for the Invisible Man, Javier Barden was cast as Frankenstein's Monster and Angelina Jolie was courted for the Bride of Frankenstein.
I'd like to see a good monster universe established, but I'm skeptical that an Elisabeth Moss-led Invisible Man is going to make the kind of money that will justify further investment.

I feel the exact same way, but then I was really skeptical about the new Halloween franchise and this production team did really well with that. I'm also skeptical about a movie called The Invisible Man that's actually not really about The Invisible Man. But who knows, maybe they can pull it off.

He's the new Armie Hammer:
Despite having a couple of on-screen gay roles, Oliver's sexual orientation is straight. Anyway, he has never denied the gay rumors though. It is, however, a fact that he is engaged to his Dracula co-star Jessica De Gouw.

He hasn't come out but he isn't engaged to Jessica De Gouw, at least not anymore. It's public knowledge to anyone that reads his interviews that he moved out of her apartment in London last year, and she's moved back to Australia. They're still friends.

There is actually a fair amount of YouTube videos of him drunk and at parties or leaving clubs . Per his own account, he has heavy mental health issues, so it's no surprise he heavily self medicates.

In one of the recent interviews, he makes a point of saying he doesn't have a problem with substance abuse. If he's lying about that, is he also lying about his mental health diagnosis? PTSD has little/no stigma.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 15, 2019 7:57 PM |
In other interviews about Hill House, he's often been quick to clarify that he doesn't have an opioid problem/ has never done heroin. I think that's what he means by "substance abuse problem" as a disclaimer, since he has also been saying all along that there's a lot of himself in the character. But he's posted a lot on IG about being drunk or hungover, and stories about him being a heavy drinker are pretty widespread, so if he meant he doesn't have any kind of substance abuse issues, he's lying or in denial. But I'm betting he just meant he's not a drug addict.
And there's a fuck ton of stigma associated with having PTSD from sexual assault, especially if you're a man.

Victorian audiences would have understood the little boy in the story was being sexually abused by the valet whose ghost haunts them in the story. Oliver is playing the valet character, but there's no telling how closely the show will match the source material. Haunting of Hill House had very little in common with the Shirley Jackson book.

That's not technically true. IMDB lists OJC with an uncredited role in episode 2 which starred Julian Morris. I believe OJC appears near the end of that episode when Vanessa Redgrave is comforting her grandson (Julian). There are a few quick cuts in that scene where she is shown also comforting her young husband (OJC). It rapidly cuts back and forth between her holding each of the men, and I think you miss it if you blink.

Oliver is not the lead of this movie, but it sounds like he is the lead in "Bly Manor," the second season of Haunting of Hill House. Mike Flanagan told an interviewer last week that this next season is "hanging its hat" on him and Victoria Pedretti. Henry Thomas and Carla Gugino were the leads of the last season, so that seems like a bump up. I also don't think his role in this film is that small. Per Instagram, he's been filming and on set the entire time it's been in production.
In other news, he's followed Lizzo on social media everywhere. If there was anything gayer than stanning Ariana Grande...

A nice interview from another thread where he talks about the abusive msnipulative narcissism of his character in this film. He mentions a few times that men and women can be both victims and victimizers and seems to have given it a lot of thought. It's a shame no one has any gossip about him ever and he hasn't been linked to anyone romantically in over a year. He does seem reasonably intelligent though.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 18, 2020 3:29 AM |
He's cute and he seems like a nice guy. His performance in Hill House was heartbreaking. I really hope this movie open doors for him but he seems like a shy and timid guy, and actors like those don't usually get the coverage or roles they deserve.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | January 18, 2020 3:33 AM |
He seems chatty enough in interviews, but also kind of introspective. Not really the same as timid but maybe he is. I've actually heard rumors he has another project lined up soon, and seen a few people speculate he might star in Mike Flanagan's next Netflix vehicle, Midnight Mass, but that could be just because Flanagan uses the same stable of actors over and over.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | January 18, 2020 4:03 AM |

He is still obsessed with liking a lot of Ariana posts and still leaves her emoji heart comments but it's been a year and a half of the same thing. It doesn't look like he's trying to get anywhere with her at all, just a fanboy like he is with Years and Years, Lizzo, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Adele, all of whom he also follows and fanboys. That bunch does not a heterosexual man's playlist make. And R140 is right, he's not fucked up enough for Ariana to fuck.

Elisabeth Moss has to be the frontrunner for the Best Actress Oscar next year for The Invisible Man. The movie looks amazing!
