Sorry -- I couldn't fit Utah. But if you think it's Utah, leave a comment!
Which western state has the most beautiful scenery?

How could you leave out Utah, moron????

California is so unique that it should be in its own category. For what US is known for geographic diversity, California has almost all of them in one state. Beaches, Alpine Mountains, Desert, Valleys, etc.
The only item I can think of that California doesn't have is swamps/wet lowland areas.

It is Utah, you moron.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 10, 2019 6:04 PM |
Yes, CA is similar to NZ in its small area but rich topographical diversity.
And there are a few swamps/low-lying areas, but the majority were coastal and have been developed, R6.

Yes, it's Utah because of the diversity-to-geology freak volume.
Arches, Canyonlands, Rocky Mountains, biggest salt lake, salt flats, Bryce and Zions' canyons.

I'm not sure I agree with this at all!

I agree with California.
Death Valley alone is unlike any other place I've been in the US.

[quote] I agree with California.
Seconded.
Plus, it has quite a lovely coastal aspect which is not always the case in The States.

California, Utah.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 11, 2019 3:13 AM |
How could you leave out Utah and include Nevada of all places? California is clearly #1 but Utah is #2.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 11, 2019 3:24 AM |
Nevada, New Mexico and most of Idaho are ugly; Utah could have replaced any one of those as a poll option.

California. Ever since I was stationed there in the 1970s, it’s had a lock on me. I’ll never be able to afford to live there in retirement but it’s where my soul would like to spend eternity.
Just bury my heart on 17 Mile Drive, preferably at Pescadero Point in Monterey Bay.

Hey, we've got a rockin' vibe.
And we're beautiful.
Don't discount us!

Hawaii
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 11, 2019 3:42 AM |
I do agree that OP leaving out Utah is unforgivable, it is one of the most beautiful states and could have replaced some of the lesser options.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 11, 2019 3:43 AM |
It's still California, same as the last time this subject came up.
Coasts, mountains, beaches, cities, whatever kind of scenery you want - we got it!

Hawaii
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 11, 2019 8:34 AM |
Hawaii's lovely with volcanos, beaches, tropics, mountains but smaller and less diversified than CA.
Akin to the Pacific Isles.
CA could almost be considered its own country like New Zealand - as mentioned above - as it's so geographically varied.
What is it? 5th largest economy? Even LA county has more folks within that one region than 41 of the states within the U.S.

Oregon is pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 11, 2019 9:08 AM |
Yes R25, I personally prefer Oregon's beauty to Utah. Just a personal preference, though.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 11, 2019 9:25 AM |
Gotta be Utah.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 11, 2019 11:51 AM |
I didn't realize leaving off Utah would be such a giant blunder!
It's one of the only states I haven't at least driven through.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 11, 2019 12:06 PM |
Utah might be attractive if you like barren, desiccated scenery, but you also have to look past all the horrible rightwing Mormons who populate the place, which makes it almost impossible to see anything else.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 11, 2019 12:23 PM |
Yeah, the Utah dessication look just isn't a great one for me either, R30.
I know people rave about it, but CA, Hawaii, New Mexico and Oregon would top my list not only for their physicality, but the psychological topography or vibe. More diverse and open energy than Utah, imho.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 11, 2019 7:58 PM |
I just glimpsed the title and then the poll options and was shocked not to find Utah. I don't know the western states well enough to feel qualified to answer, but that was the one that immediately came to mind.

Most of the scenery around Hollywood has been chewed out.
