Gold-FINGAH!!! (1964)
He loves GOOOOOLLLLLLD!
Saw the film for the first time ever the other day. So memorable. Odd Job. Pussy Galore. Jill Masterson's fate. The Swiss scenery. And that theme song!
Too bad Pussy wasn't a lesbian in the film as in the book. Although they'd probably have had Bond seduce her anyway.
What are your favorite campy Bond moments?

I loved the health spas. What is lost today is that the films were originally so exotic. It was the post war era, and most in the audience didn’t go to spas, or travel to Bermuda, Hong Kong, or Switzerland. People drove to Florida from New England, you didn’t fly. These days, all that is available to the middle class.

In the novel, Galore's team of lesbian acrobats are called "The Cement Mixers." It just sounds so dykey. LOL

I have adored her, R4 and R6. I think she was actually more beautiful once she was old. Very distinguished looking.

Shirley Bassey is so overrated. Everyone knows this is the definitive version of Goldfinger:

OMG, R3, I’ve stayed at that hotel! I didn’t remember the Goldfinger connection. It has a huge ballroom, and IIRC, The Beatles played there in the 1960s sometime. They used to have a yearly convention for Gays in recovery there. It was getting pretty rundown by the 2000s.
The real hotel probably never had an underwater view of the pool as is shown in the movie clip. At least, it doesn’t now. The diving platform and the two story cabanas are no longer there. It either never had a roller rink; or it, too, was removed.
The rooms went “condo” at some point, and then the majority room owner tried to buy the condos back. There were a few owners who didn’t want to sell, and they were abused and neglected by staff at the direction of the majority ownership. So, for example, if the owners were absentee owners and hoped to make money renting their place out, the hotel staff would never fill the room. The owners would have to rent it out on their own.
Incidentally, they did the same thing at the Boatslip in Ptown. It went condo in the late 1980s, the minority owners got squeezed and the majority owner bought back all the rooms later. Then again in the 2000s, I heard they were going condo again. Don’t know what happened next. There’s a lesson there.

R9 it’s the Fontainebleau designed by Morris Lapidus and it’s been totally renovated. Yes the original hotel had an ice skating rink and a bar with “underwater” windows that looked into the swimming pool.

Pussy was a lesbian in the film, they just were subtle. When Bond first moves on her she says, “You can turn off the charm—I’m immune.”
