Best presenter ever!
I LOVE HER!!!!

I HATE THIS CUNT and posted about it in the "Worst English Accents" thread. I absolutely HATE HER.

She was a lot of fun in the Tudor Twelfth Night episode about traditions during the time of Henry VIII.

By a pricking of my thumbs, I'm sensing the emergence of the Lucy Worsley troll.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 30, 2019 9:59 PM |
I would love to take Lucy and Judge Judy out back and horsewhip them both.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 30, 2019 10:02 PM |
I've been binging on Mary Beard documentaries.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 30, 2019 10:05 PM |
Why, I find her accent vewy chawming!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 30, 2019 10:07 PM |
She’s twee, overexposed, shows off her cleverness at every opportunity, and is going to be around forever. Get used to it. I enjoy her programmes, but I prefer Mary Beard because I am more interested in ancient history.

This is my new bay. The show is meh but he isn't. Can you believe his eye color! Emiliano Ruprah of “Unexplained and Unexplored”.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 30, 2019 10:56 PM |
R10, I hope from the title of his show that it is not autobiographical
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 30, 2019 10:57 PM |
I ABOLUTELY LOVE HER.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 17, 2020 1:16 AM |
Thumbs up for her in our household. We love her too.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2020 1:17 AM |
I am with the guy who started the other thread about not liking her. It's nothing extreme and if the subject matter interests me I'll still watch a show hosted by her but she's a little too precious and 'on' for me. Somehow makes a lot of interesting things less interesting, too.
What is it with British presenters perambulating during their shows, too? Like that one show where they dig up fields for Roman villas and shit and the on-camera people are constantly flat out RUNNING, or the main guy is striding quickly towards the camera. It's so weird. Don't like it.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 17, 2020 2:49 AM |
I love her, too.
In fact, I want to BE her.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 17, 2020 2:50 AM |
No.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 17, 2020 2:54 AM |
I don't like her. I especially don't like her in her historical series where she shows up in scenes dressed in period costumes.
Her eyebrows look like they were drawn on by someone who hates her.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 17, 2020 3:12 AM |
There should be a law about having eyebrows too close to the actual eyeball.

I like Lucy Worsley, but I've recently gone down the rabbit hole with James Fox.
His presenting style is straightforward, unpretentious and smart.
He's young, fun to watch, and fucking beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 17, 2020 4:25 AM |
Lucy Worsley? Bleah.
Could she please stop smirking for two seconds?
I'll take Baldrick every time.

[quote] I've recently gone down the rabbit hole with James Fox.
He looks like what Adam Driver would look like if he weren’t hideous and covered in moles.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 17, 2020 4:57 AM |
I love her. Why all the hate.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 17, 2020 5:24 AM |
No one hates her, R24. We just don't like her. It's perfectly fine to dislike anyone and anything here at the Datalounge, it's even encouraged.
What isn't encouraged is whining and/or asking stupid questions like "Why all the hate?" particularly when you use incorrect punctuation. Spelling and punctuation still count at the DL.
It's perfectly fine that you love her. Please go right on loving her, we don't care at all.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 17, 2020 5:41 AM |
R17, Michael Wood was absolutely beautiful when he was younger. I developed an intense interest in history because of his tight jeans.

Lucy Worsley is simply awful. Awfully so.
But she is so awful, I usually watch her turns on television just to note how awful she really is.
Has anyone bitchslapped her yet?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 17, 2020 7:00 AM |
I wold have given anything to see Princess Margaret seated next to twee Lucy Worsley at a dinner party. She wouldn't have been, of course, but the sheer carnage that would have ensued...
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 17, 2020 7:21 AM |
I'm not even sure there would be bloodstains when Margaret was finished with her R28. Just would have popped ol' Lucy straight into her mouth and swallowed her whole like an oyster, no chewing required.
R22 Oh shit that the guy with the show that everyone runs on. WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS RUNNING.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 20, 2020 5:56 AM |
yes, OP.
I'd forgotten about her.
Thanks to this thread I've been watching any show of hers I can find on YouTube.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 21, 2020 2:36 AM |
A few years ago she made a public comment about not wanting kids that got the breeders all outraged and she had to apologize.
the comment made me like her even more.
I'll look for it...

"The television historian Lucy Worsley upset a lot of women when she told Radio Times recently that she had “been educated out of the natural reproductive function”. Instead, she added, “I get to spend my time doing things I enjoy.” Sandra Parsons and Fiona Phillips, of the Mail and Mirror respectively, took exception to Worsley’s implication that only unintelligent women choose motherhood."

I recently saw her show on the Royals and photography on PBS. I used to kinda-sorta like her well enough, but her twee schtick has become old. And I am no BRF flagwaver, but that show didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Agreed with the above poster on her eyebrows -- they looked stenciled on with a Sharpie (see R18).
I've never seen Mary Beard and wish PBS would get some of her shows.

I posted this about Worsley on another thread:
[quote] There's an English historian woman who's always on PBS and who says, for example, "Henwy Eh-f". She's unlistenable. How did she get to adulthood - and into media - without someone telling her to do something about it?
I can't stand her.

Dan Jones, forever !!!!! (He's the tall one.)
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 22, 2020 8:00 PM |
she is a part of what's wrong with the world.
or at least, her fame is.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 22, 2020 9:16 PM |
She is BURSTING with cuteness.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 23, 2020 12:38 AM |
Give me Bettany Hughes. She was slim and serious at the beginning of her now long TV career. Now she's flourishing and fun. She has aged before us. She's well connected too. When she greets an expert in an ancient history field there is often some bit of chat that shows they know each other off camera as well. She's presented so many excellent shows over about two decades. There was a recent one where she travelled down the Nile on a dahabiya, visiting ancient sights. She swims in the Nile and laughs with the boar's crew and fellow production members. I enjoyed the whole thing very much. An earlier one about Sparta and how unusually their society functioned for the time was revelatory. Plenty of her older documentaries scattered over YouTube.

The types who have to show themselves off the way Worsley does get in the way of the work. She's stagey and even her hamminess is amateurish.
Rhotacism is the least of it.
He audio work, oddly considering her voice, is much better.
