Anyone remember the 1980s when this queen with his cowboy hat and braid was charging hundreds for a wash-and-set on Rodeo Drive? The celebrity hairbender of the Reagan years.

"Shake your head, darling."
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 2, 2019 5:30 AM |
I used his hair products for awhile. Loved the scent.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 2, 2019 5:30 AM |
I only ever remember Cher being his celebrity client.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 2, 2019 5:31 AM |
Did he do the Farrah cut?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 2, 2019 5:36 AM |
No, R4 - that was Vidal Sassoon who created Farrah's iconic hairstyle.

Cool, thanks

Or sorry - it was Allen Edwards.

For more than four decades, José Eber, arguably the most recognized name in hair styling, has been in the vanguard of beauty. Since the very beginning of his career, José has set the trends. He created the most influential looks of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s: something no one else has ever accomplished. And with the dawning of the new millennium, he remains a leading trendsetter in hair and fashion.
His clientele spans the world of international jet setters, glamorous Hollywood personalities, legendary stars and people like you and me. The French born master stylist believes that every woman has star potential if she will recognize her own unique beauty and appreciate the characteristics and traits that make her special and different. José Eber analyzes each client's personality, lifestyle and facial structure to create a look from which her inner beauty can emerge. At the center of his makeover approach is the philosophy that a woman's beauty lives in her individuality, her positive spirit and her ability to look at her distinctive features as assets rather than flaws.
Born in Nice, France, José began his career as a hairstylist apprentice at a chic Paris salon at only fifteen years of age. At twenty-six, on his first visit to the States, José fell in love with Los Angeles and decided to make it his home. In a desire to free American women from their stiff, sprayed styles of the day, José created a sexy, carefree unstructured look that was easier to maintain and which instantly became "de rigueur" for an entire generation. He has established himself as the undisputed hairstylist of choice among the world's most famous and beautiful women. From that moment on celebrity clients began to storm the doors. The first was Farrah Fawcett, followed by Cher, Elizabeth Taylor and the Who's Who of Hollywood. José then opened his first signature salon in Beverly Hills and ten years later expanded into his elegant salon on 2 Rodeo Drive. José has since added nine locations including Palm Desert at The Marriott Desert Springs Resort; South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California; Saks Fifth Avenue in Houston and Austin, Texas; The Westchester Mall in White Plains, New York; The Four Seasons Resorts Aviara, Carlsbad, California; The Shops at the Willow Bend Mall, in Plano, Texas; and the Preston Sherry Plaza, in Dallas, Texas. Now the long awaited opening of his spectacular salon at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Bal Harbour Shops brings his one-of-a-kind artistry to South Florida.
Now a world recognized celebrity, José Eber is a much sought after television personality appearing regularly on both international, national and local talk shows where his stunning oncamera makeovers of both celebrity and non-celebrity women regularly delight and astonish millions of viewers. Appearances include programs such as The Oprah Winfrey Show (1986), Entertainment Tonight (1981), ABC's Good Morning America (1975), "CNN" and NBC's Today (1952). In addition, his numerous personal appearances across the country inevitably attract enormous crowds.
Eber is a national best-selling author with two books on hair care and styling titled: "Shake Your Head, Darling" and "Beyond Hair, The Ultimate Makeover Book" (Simon & Schuster). José was also a pioneer in the world of home video with his highly successful "Why Do I Call You Sexy?", a step-by-step 'how to' video sharing his secrets on beauty and style.
In the rare moments when he is not working, Eber is active in numerous charities. He was one of the first to join the fight against domestic violence on behalf of the Sojourn Organization. He also devotes significant time and energy to AmFar (Elizabeth Taylor's AIDS Foundation).

Trivia (1)
Famous hair stylist. He created the most influential looks of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. His first celebrity client was Farrah Fawcett, followed by Cher and Elizabeth Taylor.

I remeber seeing him often around L.A. and B.H. in the 80s in his Rolls Royce Silver Spur. He always had that hat on with the pony tail coming out the back.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 2, 2019 7:57 AM |
The pony tail comes attached to the hat.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 2, 2019 8:14 AM |
I always connect him to Elizabeth Taylor.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 2, 2019 8:18 AM |
He DID do Farrah's signature hairdo.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 2, 2019 9:51 AM |
I'm just shocked he doesn't even have a Wikipedia listing. Did his star fall that many years ago that no one even cares?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 2, 2019 11:35 AM |
He's not French and was not born in France.
He's Moroccan.
That's just the first lie in his bio.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 2, 2019 1:24 PM |
Ugh - I used to see him all the time - was always with gay porn stars as "dates"
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 2, 2019 1:28 PM |
They used to say he could make a woman cum just by getting her hair done by him.
I hope they wiped down the seat after her shampoo and set!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 2, 2019 1:29 PM |
I remember when rock star wives would be his models on various talk shows. Tres embarrassing. BTW, does anyone remember how wonderful Vidal Sassoon shampoo smelled? Can one purchase it today?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 2, 2019 1:48 PM |
Another lie was that he actually cut hair.
The "hair" he was credited for was done by his talented staff and he would step in at the end and take a picture.
I think he's selling wigs with Jaclyn "bootsie gumdrops" Smith these days.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 2, 2019 6:38 PM |
In his glory days did Jose style Bootsie Gumdrops too?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 2, 2019 10:04 PM |
I used to see him in WeHo back in the 80's. He's very height challenged and wore high heeled cowboy boots along with that hat and looked like an evil western smurf.
When someone pointed him out to me in a club, I said, "That little midget?" at which point he turned around and gave me the evil eye.
He was balding. The person who joked about the pony tail coming with the hat wasn't far off.
But I think it was just some hair extensions taped onto his scalp.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 2, 2019 10:32 PM |
What is Bootsie Gumdrops?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 3, 2019 4:23 AM |
Thanks, R28, but I repeat my question, "What is Bootsie Gumdrops?"
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 3, 2019 4:31 AM |
This is Bootsie. Jose did her hair on a wig stand for this special night. Bootsie loved Jose and big jewels and pretending she was sober. Bootsie always said - "only coral and turquoise go with cowboy boots - surrounded in diamonds."
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 3, 2019 4:44 AM |
Bootsie was of regal bearing, Jose got a rise out of her hair.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 3, 2019 4:51 AM |
What's her name?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 3, 2019 4:53 AM |
My stylist back then worked for José. Went with him when he later moved to Giuseppe Franco. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Giuseppe would sit in the courtyard on the shop on Rodeo and smoke cigars together.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 3, 2019 4:55 AM |
A beauty expert who always looked like dog shit. Eber & that fat-ass woman whom Cher did infomercials with, a difficult pair to forgot.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 3, 2019 5:02 AM |
I remember he had a this really hunky brown haired porn guy as his BF in the 80's.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 3, 2019 5:11 AM |
Wasn't he supposed to be the one servicing all the glory holes in Hollywood under a different name in the book Scruples? As I recall, he was the "famous" hair dresser to the stars who also loved to be pissed on.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 3, 2019 5:12 AM |
Best man for Larry Fortensky (who had lovely hair!).
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 3, 2019 5:22 AM |
Who is the Nubian bridesmaid to the right?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 3, 2019 5:29 AM |
That's a crazy white woman, R38.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 3, 2019 5:33 AM |
I remember my grandmother was totally enamored with him back in the early 90's. She pain a retainer of 6000.00, with a commitment to monthly cut and styling @ 400.00 each visit. Looking back, I think she had a crush on him.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 3, 2019 5:34 AM |
[quote] BTW, does anyone remember how wonderful Vidal Sassoon shampoo smelled? Can one purchase it today?
Yes, I remember how good that shampoo smelled (in the dark brown bottle). Amazon sells Vidal Sassoon "Cherry Almond" shampoo for about $43.96 for a 12.9-oz. bottle. The original shampoo actually did smell like cherries and almond, but IIRC, was never called "Cherry Almond."

That wasn't shampoo, darling.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 3, 2019 5:55 AM |
R37, that woman with her back to the cam must be Marianne Williamson. She married that crazy couple with their crazy best men/woman/pedo/piss queen.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 3, 2019 6:00 AM |
"Vidal Sassoon....If you don't look good, not our problem."
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 3, 2019 6:01 AM |
Marianne Williamson, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson = all conwomen.

Jay Sebring

That charter was straight, certainly not that water sports expert Jose Eber.

Magna Carta

[quote] Jose gave Larry Fortensky that horrid mullet.
So which is it, bitches: lovely or horrid?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 3, 2019 6:11 AM |
I remember on one of those E! gossip shows Army Archerd claimed Larry was a public farter. What did Liz see in him?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 3, 2019 6:12 AM |
Jay Sebring was straight, but, unlike the Beatty character, his clients were mostly (hot celebrity) men.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 3, 2019 6:17 AM |
The Warren Beatty character in Shampoo was based on Streisand's boss, Jon Peters. As with her other lovers - she sought to prove that by giving great blow jobs and deep anal that she could compete with the pretty women of Hollywood.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 3, 2019 6:22 AM |
As opposed to shallow anal?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 3, 2019 6:30 AM |
^ Yes. Everyone should know the difference.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 3, 2019 6:35 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 3, 2019 10:28 AM |
Jon Peters today at 74. The ravages of time are indeed a bitch.

by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 3, 2019 2:14 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 4, 2019 5:29 AM |
Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
