Anybody been there? Seems Algeria has been mostly forgotten whereas its next door neighbor Morocco has flourishing tourism. And seems has an exciting gay cruising ?
Isn't it west of Wyoming?

My god, when you visit a foreign country, do you always have to have sex with the natives?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 26, 2019 5:39 PM |
Morocco went through a period where it promoted tourism heavily. The NY Times constantly has ads about visiting Morocco. My friend and I flew to Morocco and stayed in a resort for a week--all for $500 each around 2000--it must have been heavily subsidized by the Moroccan govt.

If you're into middle eastern/north African food, the food is very good.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 26, 2019 8:21 PM |
Because it has to be said, Algeria unfortunately has a rather lamentable gay rights track record, so it's probably not the best for seeking out sex partners -- or if you do go that route, discretion is advisable.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 26, 2019 8:36 PM |
If you're into swarthy natives, try India.

Algerian men aren't that handsome and if you want to sample some you can readily find them in France. No need to risk it and perilously cruise for sex in Algeria.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 26, 2019 11:29 PM |
You can see Roman ruins in Morocco, too. Google Volubilis for pics.

By all means spend money in homo-hating cultures.
"Both male and female same-sex sexual acts are illegal in Algeria. Article 338 of Algerian law (English translation) reads:
Anyone guilty of a homosexual act is punishable with imprisonment of between 2 months and two years, and with a fine of 500 to 2000 Algerian Dinars. If one of the participants is below 18 years old, the punishment for the older person can be raised to 3 years' imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 dinars.
Article 333 of the Algerian law (English translation) reads:
"When the outrage to public decency has consisted of an act against nature with an individual of the same sex, the penalty is imprisonment of between 6 months and 3 years, and a fine of between 1,000 and 10,000 Algerian Dinars.

I am a tall handsome, dark haired and pale skinned white man. It was easy and great to find gay sex and romance across North Africa before my late 30s. After that, I was considered a rich sugar daddy and it got unseemly and likely dangerous.

Egypt TV host Mohamed al-Ghiety jailed for interviewing gay man
An Egyptian TV presenter has been sentenced to one year of hard labour for interviewing a gay man last year.
A court in Giza also fined Mohamed al-Ghiety 3,000 Egyptian pounds ($167; £130) for "promoting homosexuality" on his privately owned LTC TV channel.

Touristy areas in Egypt and Morrocco are more tolerant because they just want to make money out of you. Algeria doesn't have such places and its people are known for their general hostility all across the region. Tunisia is a better choice if you've already been to Morocco and Egypt. Amphitheatre of El Jem, the biggest amphitheater outside of Rome, and the Punic ruins in Carthage are so worth checking out. Tunisians are also much more welcoming but by no means gay friendly.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 27, 2019 3:59 PM |
Yeah, Egypt is currently a no-go for anything gay, given their government's harassment of gay citizens and abominable anti-gay policies.
Ironically, I got hit on pretty brazenly and openly by men when I was there -- a man rubbed my leg in the back of a shared taxi and invited me to a hotel. I was younger and twinkier then though.. but stuff like that is not uncommon.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 27, 2019 10:39 PM |
Just go to Paris. All the Algerian cock you want without the 3rd world crazy religious crap
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 27, 2019 10:51 PM |
Indeed, It's a better idea to go to France to spot/meet north africans... there, you will not end up in jail just for watching, but you will have to deal with the 3rd world religious crap .
Things have really changed these past 20 years... education systems in these countries are now all islamic and partly funded by saudi arabia, with all the violence, narcissism and other mental illnesses that come with religious conservative education in extremely poor areas/countries (i.e. rural areas in the US).
France has never cared about integrating these communities. Today, contrary to 30 years ago, North african communities in France are poorer, more religious, more closed on themselves.
In France, you WILL get robbed and maimed at least (it's the price of that fantasy). Those guys will befriend you ONLY for your money and belongings. Stay safe, watch "Citebeur" videos (north african frenchies)... And if you really want to have some good "fun", just go cruise in saudi arabia. Good luck! You will be missed on DL.
Hyper-masculine guys are hot... but not to the point of paying a bad fuck with my life. Been there, done that...

The Kasbah of Algiers is on UNESCO World Heritage Sites list but it's in terrible condition (with lots of rundown buildings) and there are some parts of it that are no-go areas for tourists.

I was in the Casbah l last summer. It's hit or miss. There are crumbing 19th century villas that are propped up with steel beams, waiting waiting waiting. Detached 1 - 3 hundred year old architectural elements collecting in the lobby, waiting. There is enough mineral wealth in Algeria if it ever get sorted the middle class will restore the neighbourhood - you can see they want to. I hope they get their shit together - I'd love to retire on my European pension to Oran.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 28, 2019 4:31 PM |
Algeria was a DEPARTMENT of France. Not a colony. It's ironic but I think Algeria and France unified today would be a formidable culture and economy. If there hadn't been such racism and unequal distribution of the good things in life, there would never have been a revolution. I feel the French culture would be capable to have a true islamic-christian north-african European melting pot. Merkel importing 2 million muslims because they will make babies was desperate and the Germans are not a deep, long culture of colonialism and multiculturalism but France is.

[R41] you probably need to travel a bit... pack your Manolo Blahnik sandals and Hermès caftans and move around the rural south of the US... then go to conservative jewish or muslim communities.... you may be really surprised by the similarities between them, including inbreeding, insanity and religious violence.

R46 truly believes that there are similarities between minority communities in free and diverse America and oppressive, Islam 24/7/365 countries where choice, freedom and diversity are non-existent.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 29, 2019 5:47 AM |
R48, basing your perception of reality on propaganda ) is so passé... choice, freedom and diversity are ideologically manufactured products, easily digested and spit out... cliché, in other words.
"free" America... free to lead the world in school massacres (all by white middle-class kids)? deaths by fire arms? genocidal track record? murderous social engineering (and corollary mental illnesses)? military invasion of foreign countries? the prison state-based slavery? environmental disasters (along with Russia and China)?...
ask Trump's America about choice, you can also try to ask the US' best allies (israel and saudi arabia... birds of the same feather...).
diversity of the labor force exists in the US, as long as the communities stay segregated (in more apparently acceptable forms than in the 50's, but still).

Muslim and Hindu cultures practice cousin marriage. That is why you see so many fascinating syndromes and congenital defects in those parts of the world., such as children with an extra limbs.
While in medical school in the US, I got to see the infamous "birdman syndrome" (Seckel Syndrome) in a Middle Eastern child whose parents were cousins. All babies with this syndrome have huge beak-like noses and the top of the small head looks wrinkled like a Klingon.
These defects are caused by rare autosomal recessive genes (which means both parents have to carry copies) and typically only seen in cases of consanguinity.
