She's still alive!
I love how they treat her age in the article.

While she's obviously had work done, I'm glad she's not wholly unrecognizable and pulled so tight her belly button could double as her mouth.

[quote]“The best thing that happened in my life,” Charo said. “I recommend it to you, one day you have sangria, open your legs and get pregnant.”

When Charo is around Sofia Vagina, does she yell out, "Bitch stole my act!" ????
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 26, 2019 6:09 PM |
Charo should play Sophia’s mother on Modern Family.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 27, 2019 3:38 AM |
Charo is, to quote Mommie Dearest, NOT one of Sofia's FAAAANS.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 27, 2019 6:31 PM |
Charo's fun. I'd love to know what she really sounds like, her accent can't be THAT heavy after all these years.
She once said, In the rest of the world, she is known as a premier Spanish classical guitarist, in the US, she's known as the cuchi cuchi girl.

I definitely believe that that's her real accent because her pronunciation of certain words in English sounds like the way she pronounces things in Spanish. And even though she's lived in the US a long time, she nonetheless speaks Spanish most of the time. I suspect her husband probably learned Spanish to be able to communicate better with her at home.

She look betty betty goodt.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 27, 2019 7:49 PM |
It's rumored that she was actually born in 1941. I don't believe she's that old, as that would make her almost 80. If anything, she must really be in her late 60s. Her body looks fantastic, especially her legs. Those aren't the legs of someone pushing 80. Especially when considering that she's not a dancer by trade but is instead a musician.

When did she first appear on the scene?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 27, 2019 8:27 PM |
I had such a big smile on my face reading that whole article
She's such a distinct personality. No one like her during my entire life
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 27, 2019 8:37 PM |
R20 1965 I believe. She was on some nighttime tv show. The tonight show with Johnny Carson I think.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 27, 2019 8:38 PM |
She's played fast and loose with her age since she first got on the scene in the US.
She claimed to be 18-years-old in 1964. She looks old for 18, and no was in hell was she 13 here, when she somehow got her year of birth legally changed to 1951.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 27, 2019 8:40 PM |
Another newspaper article from 1964 at the supposed age of 18.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 27, 2019 8:42 PM |
Three years later in 1967, she only aged two years and is only 20.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 27, 2019 8:44 PM |
Good finds! Who knows what her true age really is lol.
As for her son, he looks ugly in that picture but he looks better nowadays with short hair.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 27, 2019 10:17 PM |
Her older sister, Carmen, also managed to get the same judge than made Charo's birth year 1951 to take 11 years off her age.

OP Thanks for posting this! Charo is so talented, smart, and hilarious. Big lessons to be learned from old talents with longevity regarding dealing with criticism. They fight the fight every day.
R16 thanks for introducing me to Abbe Lane!

R28, Wow even her sister got her age changed? That's really weird and a bit disturbing. However, if her sister's true age in 1977 was 40, then that would make her 82 this year. Looking at that picture of her sister from last year, she does not look to be in her 80s. She's obviously had work done, but still doesn't appear to be so elderly. It's such a mystery. With that being said, the sister kinda looks like an older version of the former model named Valeria Mazza.

Does anyone remember Charo's stint as a Disco Diva? She released the disco song "Olé Olé" in 1978.

I like Salsoul but I've never sought out the album, probably because of this review:
[Quote] If Charo could sing even a little teeny bit, this would have been a classic album. Montana outdoes himself with smooth funk ("Cookie Jar"), lively dance ("You're Just The Right Size") and crazy flights of camp (a moderate salsa arrangement of the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend The Night Together"). The arrangements have clever offbeat touches (the spectacular bass runs on "Speedy Gonzalez"). And of course, Charo's bubbly persona - she became famous mostly as a Tonight Show guest - is a continual guilty pleasure. But Christ, she's such a bad singer! Her sense of pitch is vague, and her breathy voice continually slides into half-whispered spoken word - at first it's funny but after a while it's downright irritating. Anyway, thanks to Montana and the musicians the record's better than it has any right to be, probably a more impressive demonstration of his talents than any of the Orchestra's other records.

I was a young gayling back then, but I remember Charo performing "Ole Ole" on The Tonight Show and various other talk shows. I thought it was a catchy little tune.
It did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart. But it was a minor hit on the Billboard dance chart, peaking at #36.

Let's have her for brunch!

Charo is a great classical guitarist, had quite a career in Europe before all this Cuchi Chuchi stuff. She learned from Andre Segovia; he was her mentor. She has beautiful technique.
