Movies you saw more than once in the movie theater upon its original release?
Not re-releases, or Director Cuts being released, or home released etc.
What movies did you go to see more than once in the theater upon its original run in theaters?
I have a few, but the most was Gravity. I was blown away by how beautiful this film looked on the big screen and how effective the 3D was in this one.

I saw "Chaplin" (1992) three times. I wasn't in love with the film, but my friends wanted to see it and I knew more about Chaplin than anyone else they knew. We'd watch the film then they'd ask me how much was true and what was made up.
Everyone I saw the film with said the best part was the Oscar montage of actual Chaplin clips.

I drove from Texas City to Houston THREE TIMES (said like Patti yelling the number of pictures that audience member took of her) to see Faye Dunaway in Burning Secret 1989. It was playing at one fancy theater in Houston and I got stoned out of my mind on the drive up, then would be all paranoid to get out of the car and walk to the ticket booth. Good times. I was in a Faye obsession phase.
In 1978 I saw Grease every Wednesday for six weeks at the Stockton-on-Tees cinema in the U.K. because Hurworth House School had a half day on Weds. I would buy a sack of Maynard's Wine Gums (basically gummi bears) to eat during the movie. I was obsessed with Marty Maraschino played by Dinah Manoff.
I saw Barfly twice in Houston.

The summer of 1981, I was 11 and my dad would take me with him to his hanger at an airport where he was building a plane. I would become bored rather quickly and cross the street to a movie theater to pass the time: saw Superman II 9 times and Saturday the 14th 5 times.
There are many I’ve seen two or three times (Misery; Speed; Gladiator; Gravity) during initial release, but I finally topped the Superman II record when I saw Titanic 11 times during its initial release. It was a big screen spectacular unlike anything I’d ever seen.

Several I've seen twice, too many to mention.
3x- Tootsie, Grease, Hairspray (the original), Almost Famous, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Xanadu, Ruthless People 4x- Star Wars (counting once during the 1979 re-release), The Doors
If we count revival houses, I'm sure I've seen things like The Shining and Willy Wonka at least 10 times each.
Nowadays I barely can be bothered to see a movie once in the theater if it's new, and I can't imagine going multiple times when you can wait three months and own it. Back then it was 9-12 months before you could see the film again depending on video and/or cable. But I'll go if it's something fun that's old.

OMG. Cabaret! I peeked in on it on Netflix a few nights ago. You really had to be there in 1972 seeing it for the first time to have grasp of how absolutley revolutionary Fosse's camera work was. "Willkommen" was a shock. But "Mein Herr" left everyone's head spinning. The multiple camera set ups and the rapid editing of shots was something that Fosse pioneered. We had not seen it before and it was as confusing as it was thrilling. Watching it this week, it all seemed so absolutely conventional. But it was not. Not at all.

Small theater and if you were inside you were in front of the screen. I knew the film literally frame by frame shot by shot. I occurred to me that I might have seen it more time than Stanley Kubrick. Funny thing, I saw it again, first time in easily 40 years and I was surprised that I barely remembered it, and much of what I remembered I remembered wrong.

Cruel Intentions. I liked it so much I decided to watch it a second time by myself. I’m not the type of person who went to places alone, so I really liked it. Unfortunately, a black couple wearing matching tracksuits (so 1991, obviously they didn’t get the memo) decided to sit in front me. During the gay scene they loudly showed their disgust and ruined the whole fucking movie for me.

And then on DVD several more times to watch the tracking shots in detail and inderstand the mechanics of the choreographed set pieces.

I saw Highlander multiple times in the theater. One theater must have had an extended version, there was a ten-minute WWII scene that hadn't been in the other viewings, and actually explained a lot about the Highlander's relationship with his assistant. It's so silly, but the Queen soundtrack was amazing, and it hit me just the right way as a teenager. I also took three different guys to Gladiator.

AMERICAN BEAUTY (4x, I’m embarrassed to say now—not because I have a vendetta against Spacey but because the movie is pretentious, heavy handed, and overrated). I bawled each time.
I HEART HUCKABEES (3 or 4x, but one of them doesn’t count because I got way too stoned beforehand and had a brutal panic attack that lasted the length of the movie; I hid out in the men’s room and also in my car, hyperventilating, while my friend enjoyed the movie inside. I still think it’s a good movie, but not THAT good.)
ZODIAC (3x — I now own the excellent 2-disc blu-ray set of it and have seen it another few times. Brilliant movie.)

Not in its original release but I repeatedly took people to see Camille (1936) at revival houses when such places existed to show them how wonderful Garbo was. This was during the video age but I preferred to watch it on the big screen. It was like a test of my friendship. If you didn't like Garbo, you were out.

R91, R94, R120; I'm an Australian but I've been told that in Britain in the 1960s popular films were exhibited as 'roadshows' at more expensive ticket prices and at stated times.
Big popular roadshow films such as 'Sound of Music' were shown at the same city theatre for up to and over a year.
Whereas non-roadshow films were less popular films, shown as a double bill and in continuous performance throughout the day Monday to Saturday.

Pulp Fiction - 17 times in the theatre. I LOVED that movie at that time.
"Grease" when it first came out. I went to see it at the movies probably 30 times that summer of 1978 ( I was ten years old).

Stand By Me - 6 times. It was a lonely period in my life and the idea that four school friends could set out on an adventure seemed to fill a hole in my life.
A Christmas Story - 4 times. I identified with Ralphie and the absurdity of childhood. I love that scene where the teacher is trying to get the kids to admit who put Flick up to sticking his tongue onto the icy pole and Ralphie is attempting to look innocent and just gazing all around. That was totally me in grade school.

Great thread. My biggest record has to be ALL THAT JAZZ. I saw it twice on opening day, went back Saturday and Sunday, and then after school each day. I loved it. Maybe 15 times in its opening week. Also, I was in Paris and Almodóvar's ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER opened. I was free on Wednesday (when it opened) and I saw it at Les Halles at 9:00 or 10:00 am. To my surprise it was playing in one of those huge screens where only blockbusters play. I loved it so much I had lunch and went back. In the evening, it was playing at the GAUMONT AMBASSADE (now closed), in one of the GAUMONTARAMA screens. And for the rest of the week, I went to all these wonderful movie theaters where the movie was playing in cinemas where only big blockbusters used to play. I loved the movie.

I wrote movie reviews for my high school paper and I took it very seriously. At least twice that I can remember--for "Three Days of the Condor" and "Mahogany"--I'd have my mom drop me off at the theater on Saturday afternoon for the 1 PM show and sit through it twice.
Much more recently, I saw "Jojo Rabbit" twice in the theater because the first time I came in a little late and missed the first couple of (fairly crucial) minutes.

I think I accidentally saw 'Gold' with Roger Moore twice in the 1970's. Once on it's own and later as a double-feature with a James Bond movie, terrible film.
I haven't been to the cinema since they banned smoking in about 1987, it wasn't an enjoyable experience at our local 'flea-pit' in any case and I don't miss it.

I've seen plenty of films twice in the movie theatre (Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Titanic, Boogie Nights, The Artist, American Hustle, Birdman, Hell or High Water, Nocturnal Animals are ones I can recall off the top of my head).
But, the ones I saw more than that are Dead Man Walking (3x) and Leaving Las Vegas (4x). One of them was a double-feature. I must have had a death-wish. In my defence, I was young and depressed. And Dead Man Walking especially still is a good film (I'm not sure I can ever watch LLV again; too depressing).

Edward Scissorhands x4. I was captivated by the Tim Burton's (then fresh) visuals and Danny Elfman's score, which really made the movie. Criminally underrated, IMHO. Burton's vision has grown a bit tiresome, but he was at the top of his game in 1990.
