Mediocre Movies that are boosted by Nostalgia

Inspired by the mediocre movies that no one remembers thread.

Saw Monster Squad as an adult and couldn't stop cringing at the dialogue.

Pretty Woman is pretty dreadful.

Goonies.

It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

Seems to be some big cult film now.

I saw it in its first release in Cinerama, and found it forced and unfunny. But now there are crazed fans who adore the damn thing.

There are even groups who love it, simply because of all the period cars that are in it. That era for automobiles is much prized now.

Go figure...

Sadly...The Neverending Story...sniff

People LOVE "Field of Dreams" which is a maudlin schlockfest.

by Anonymousreply 8June 15, 2019 2:23 AM

R6, I think that’s one of those ‘love it or hate it’ movie. My dad showed it to me when I was growing up because he loves it but my mom detests it and won’t sit in the room if it’s on. I can understand the complaints but I think it’s a lot of fun.

Bump.

Forrest Gump and all its sappy stupid quotes.

“The Wizard of Oz”

Hypocritical sentimental bullshit

Titanic

Any film I watched with my late partner. I remember us walking out of Alexander both of us trashing the hell out of it. Now when I watch it I can only remember us holding hands in the dark. Me leaning over to kiss him when Farrell says "it is you that I love no other" When I feel sad and lonely I watch it and I cry. Not for the movie but for the memory.

I hated Forrest Gump especially after finding out Gary Sinise was a hardcore Republican shit stain.

99% of all beloved Christmas movies. Although the camp factor involved in some Christmas movies may skew that equation.

Gone With The Wind

R21, shut your filthy mouth.

by Anonymousreply 22June 16, 2019 2:24 PM

R14 that's beautiful. You're lucky you had a love like that. Thanks for sharing x

Most of the movies that DLers go on and on about.

by Anonymousreply 24June 16, 2019 2:53 PM

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is just bad. I think I've seen it four or five times since the late 70s, including recently on Logo. Had it on, which for me isn't the same as watching it. The idea of seeing it week after week after week with my friends? Ugh, no.

by Anonymousreply 25June 16, 2019 2:58 PM

I could never sit through A Christmas Story with Raphie, the leg lamp and the mom with the 1980s' anachronistic perm hairdo. Just schlock. To me, that is.

Citizen Kane

by Anonymousreply 27June 16, 2019 3:45 PM

R6, you must have seen the original roadshow version of the film which ran 3 1/4 hours. The version shown now is @ 2 3/4 hours...and it's still tedious.

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE owns this thread.

Actually a lot of Capra's films qualify.

by Anonymousreply 29June 16, 2019 4:49 PM

I agree with R3. Grease!!!

The fascination of White America with the way it was in the 50s is so MAGA.

by Anonymousreply 30June 16, 2019 5:20 PM

The Blue Lagoon - remember liking it when I was a teen. Now......no.

by Anonymousreply 31June 17, 2019 2:36 AM

Top Gun.

Except the volleyball scene. That will always be a classic.
