by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 7, 2019 11:45 PM |
Pity he didn’t like spunk.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 7, 2019 11:45 PM |
Ed Asner always reminded me of John Belushi. They both had a similar burliness.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 7, 2019 11:49 PM |
He was sexy even in the early days of MTM. I am not normally about the big men, but there was something about him.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 7, 2019 11:50 PM |
I thought he was one that DL collectively deemed gay.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 7, 2019 11:51 PM |
Are you kidding? Even through Lou Grant, he was the kind of guy who had a hairy hot man's body. He always had a sexuality. I'da done him.

No R5- That was John Ritter.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 8, 2019 12:06 AM |
Ed's a late in life gay. Been with the same partner for years.
I'm a little surprised that a lefty liberal like him hasn't come out yet, but it's probably a generational thing.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 8, 2019 12:08 AM |
He must have tried spunk once somewhere along the way, because he hated it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 8, 2019 12:10 AM |
Ed Asner is gay? Who knew, huh! He should come out, that's the sort of thing that'd surprise a lot of older folks, like my parents, it'd be good
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 8, 2019 12:11 AM |
I want him to take a MTM-sized dump on my chest!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 8, 2019 12:14 AM |

Ooooh...Mr. Grant!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 8, 2019 12:56 AM |
He is a Kansas City boy, as am I. And I grew up vicariously lusting after Mr Grant using Mary as my vicarious emotional beard. And I knew MURRAY knew that I knew that he knew.

R17- Yes I am also R8
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 8, 2019 1:06 AM |
Two wives and 4 children and we're to believe he's gay? I call bullshit.
That said, he was beautiful young. And was a fine bear in his time.

R23-That SCIENTOLOGY HOMO-John Travolta has numerous kids/wives and we still know he's a friend of Dorothy.

r24, there's no comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 8, 2019 1:10 AM |
Call whatever the fuck you'd like, R23.
Doesn't change the fact that Asner's quietly been with a male partner for many years.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 8, 2019 1:10 AM |
He guest starred in an episode of an old CBS series "The Crazy Ones" playing a lecherous old man who used his age as an excuse to sexually harass Sarah Michelle Geller and DL fave James Wolk.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 8, 2019 1:11 AM |
And you know this how, r26?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 8, 2019 1:11 AM |

Yikes.
There was an article some years ago comparing how stars look now compared to stars of the 70s/80s.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 8, 2019 1:18 AM |
The best example is Carol OConner as Archie Bunker. Carol was about 50 at one point on the show he looked at least 62 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 8, 2019 1:19 AM |
Gavin MacLeod would have loved to bottom for Ed Asner back in the 1970's.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 8, 2019 1:20 AM |
Pint size bear. Yes he’s gay now. *Stars look younger now because of skin care and plastic surgery duh!

Gavin MacLeod also had two wives and 4 children.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 8, 2019 1:22 AM |
Bull on Ed being gay. I've known him for years- and not in that way. But you delusional queens are welcome to him.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 8, 2019 1:23 AM |
Then you don't know him as well as you claim, R36
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 8, 2019 1:27 AM |
ED ASHNER ISH SHEXY!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 8, 2019 1:28 AM |

Well if Liza has a thing for him then he MUST be gay! lol
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 8, 2019 1:30 AM |
R29 He's less than a decade older than me in that picture but looks like my grandfather
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 8, 2019 1:31 AM |

No wonder people got married in their teens and early 20s back then.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 8, 2019 1:36 AM |

In her autobiography, Cloris Leachman wrote:
"One day we made an agreement that I would have sex with him if he lost 32 pounds," Leachman writes of Asner. "He almost did it; he lost 29 pounds. We both got so disoriented at what we were facing that his weight shot back up, and our assignation never happened."

Gavin McCleod seems closeted and gay. He became an “ambassador for Christ.” My gaydar is not the best, but it’s kind of obvious to me.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 8, 2019 9:21 AM |
Asner most definitely has been rumored to be gay for a long time. I first read about it like 10 years ago. Although I guess in his case bisexual is the correct term if he was married twice to women, unless they were total bearding arrangements.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 8, 2019 9:32 AM |
That photo at R56 was hanging in Mr. Grant’s office on the MTM show.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 8, 2019 10:26 AM |
R67 Yes he’s Jewish and comes from an Orthodox Jewish family. So, there could have been an argument to say he was gay, but married very young to a Jewish girl encouraged by his family back in the 1940’s, when times were different.
However he married at 30 (which wasn’t young back in the 1950s) and married again at 60 odd. Both marriages produced children. This really isn’t someone who is struggling in the closet! Asner was always very liberal and outspoken. If he was gay, he would have been the type of man who was putting his neck on the line and losing out on parts, to stay truthful to who he was.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 8, 2019 10:31 AM |
He seems gay because he owns this very potent masculinity.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 8, 2019 10:35 AM |
Liberals can be in the closet r73.
Damn, he was sexy. He had a small part in the Netflix show Dead To Me recently. Still a great actor too...

[quote] If he was gay, he would have been the type of man who was putting his neck on the line and losing out on parts, to stay truthful to who he was.
Things are not always that simple, especially for actors whose livelihoods depend on their public image. And if he's really into women as well he is not gay but bisexual.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 8, 2019 12:07 PM |
Served him room service once. He opened the door wearing boxers, a sleeveless t-shirt and black socks. Surprisingly hairy.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 8, 2019 12:27 PM |
Blown away that is Ed Asner!
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 8, 2019 12:32 PM |
R76. Yeah but he got married again in his 60’s to another woman and had more kids! This really is taking the closeted for his career all the way. He rocks that vest but I don’t think Ed Asner was expecting to get the Bruce Willis role in die hard in the 1980s.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 8, 2019 12:37 PM |
Hunky beefy hairy brusque guys like this have been my ideal type for forever
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 8, 2019 12:58 PM |
In April I had dinner with the 50 year old former partner of a friend.
He brought along his much older current partner; whom it turns out I knew.
He’s a recently retired, fairly high profile corporate executive who, when I last saw him eighteen months ago, was still married to his wife of 40 years. They have several grandchildren.
Talk about coming out late.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 8, 2019 1:06 PM |
Cloris WISHES he would have lost 30 pounds to bang her, but I doubt that ever happened.
Knowing Cloris, she actually believes it to be true.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 8, 2019 1:16 PM |
r72 Perhaps, might be eye-opening to find out. So, how you doin'?
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 8, 2019 1:21 PM |
He got a girlfriend pregnant in the 80s, while married to his first wife and didn't marry her but someone else. He doesn't sound gay to me, he sounds like a whore.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 8, 2019 3:01 PM |
Of course, it could be that he sleeps with women AND men. Many actors do.
I know the universe folds in on itself when one suggests such a thing on the DL, but it DOES happen that way for some people.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 8, 2019 3:07 PM |
Was he featured in any notable TV or film roles pre-MTM? I'd love to see him in action when he was younger.
It's funny how he seemed to debut fully-formed as a middle aged star in the 1970s with no prior credits.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 8, 2019 3:11 PM |
I don't believe for one second he's gay. Two wives, four children and a woman he got pregnant in between the two wives and some of you queens want us to believe he's gay?

Are you one of those sad individuals who refuse to believe that bisexuality is a real thing and who think that all bi men married to women are in reality 100% gay and are living a lie?
I'm a Kinsey 4 or 5 myself and even I got close to starting a straight family with my girlfriend in my late teens. Being with women is totally different than being with men and I absolutely get why some bi and gay men do it... and then have male lovers on the side or later become exclusively gay. I knew sex with my gf wouldn't have been enough for either of us so we made the right choice and split up. But still, we were quite happy together and some other time or some other place we probably would've gotten married, had a few kids and lived a content enough life. I'd imagine Kinsey 1s and 2s see gay life as something quite foreign, just because they are so much more into women. They know that they are NOT totally gay even though some people keep repeating it over and over again. So yes, if he's now dating men I'd imagine Asner is bi.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 9, 2019 2:20 AM |
Doesn’t strike me as gay - look, none of know for sure but his prior behavior doesn’t point to him being a cock or ass hound.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | June 9, 2019 5:24 AM |
r87 He was in an episode of the original run of "Mission:IMPOSSIBLE." Not his finest performance, but it was interesting to seem him play a very heavy dramatic part. Episode title is "The Mind of Stefan Miklos."

I thought he was wonderful in Marty. He definitely deserved the Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | June 9, 2019 1:17 PM |
R94-Ed Asner reminds me of John Belushi rather than Ernest Borgnine.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | June 9, 2019 1:23 PM |
NOT gay, not gay, not bi, dreamers. God what you people come up with. There have never been rumors.
Asner will be 90 years old this year, he could be on a walker. Most likely on a walker with a home health aide who purees his food and puts him on the toilet. He ain't having sex.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | June 9, 2019 1:31 PM |
From a 2016 interview:
Asner then fixed me with his intent gaze and said, “So you’re gay, right? You guys have a lot of sex?”
Instead of replying “Is the pope Catholic?,” I described my open relationship, which began when my partner and I fell in love while both otherwise involved. I said, “We were two korvas [whores] from the beginning, so I thought, ‘Let’s not bullshit each other here. We’re two men. In New York City. Temptation everywhere.’ So yeah, I have sex just about every day, and like you, I love it. I once gave someone a seven hour bj.”
Asner’s eyes widened.
“Really? And how do you know that word ‘korva,’ anyway?”
“Oh God, I’ve lived in New York for decades. I love and know more Yiddish than Korean! I just wish my parents had spoken more of it around the house, instead of only when they wanted not to be understood by me.”
“Well, it’s not too late. You could take language classes.”
“Well, I’m just so busy.”
And then, Lou Grant leaned in, and gave me the greatest quote of my journalistic career: “Suck less cock.”

I've yet to see better way to describe the degrees of sexuality than the Kinsey scale. Maybe you can enlighten me? Everyone who understands how to read the Kinsey scale gets immediately what it means if someone is Kinsey 1 or Kinsey 4. Unless of course you're one of those people who desperately tries to convince others and yourself that bisexuality isn't real.
