Toukie & Diahnne are both former models, as opposed to Grace, who was a private citizen when they met. That said, I totally get why he pursued her. She has presence and a certain allure. Plus, she's very engaging, someone he can talk to. As mentioned upthread, she's a striver. He's built a career out of championing the underdog, it makes sense how he would have found Grace incredibly interesting.

You missed the part about "1 million A YEAR"! Hightower doesn't need to invest any of it, just keep her spending to UNDER a million per YEAR. Technically alimony is taxable to the recipient, but "voluntary payments" to ex-spouses are not, so there's a good chance the million would be tax-exempt to Ms. Hightower. Co-op fees aren't exorbitant generally, but real estate taxes can be high for a condo, but even at $100,000 a year for housing costs that's only 10% of her income at best! Most government guidelines assume that most people spend 30% of their gross income in housing costs/rent. Her's would be only 10% assuming she had no other income which I'm certain she does.
