When I was younger, I loved Led Zeppelin and found Pink Floyd so dull. But as I've gotten older, while I still love Zeppelin, I love Floyd way more. I see Floyd's music being more influential to other bands and few things beat Floyd's guitar solos. The general public seems to agree. On facebook, Floyd has almost twice the number of "likes" that Zeppelin has. Additionally, on streaming platforms, their albums are more popular than Zeppelin's. Pink Floyd has one album in the top 3, two in the top 10, and three in the top 20. Which band do you think is better and why?
Pink Floyd vs. Led Zeppelin--who is better?

Zeppelin by far. Roger Waters is a raging homophobe these days.

R1, really? Isn't he also anti-Israel?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 2, 2019 6:35 PM |
R2, yes he is. He criticized Elton John for being an advocate for gay rights. He clearly thinks his “cause” is the only one that matters.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 2, 2019 6:38 PM |
R3, I think I've found the quote. I don't think he was being homophobic. He was basically saying Elton John only cares about gay causes, but was completely complicit with apartheid. Apparently, he's correct.
"Elton John went and played in Sun City about 500 times when everyone else in the world was anti-apartheid and said you can’t go and play in Sun City and he said ‘yeah I can, I’m the Queen Mum’. You kind of go, well he is just dopey and also he obviously doesn’t give a fuck about anybody else except the lesbian gay whatever whatever community which he does seem to care about. He will make videos protecting his one little area of people who are having violence done to them but he seems blind to (others). We are all human but some people are human in different ways."

This is an early Pink Floyd live performance and interview, Astronomy Domine, the interviewer is very funny, he doesn't like them at all, but Roger Waters and Syd Barrett handle him fairly well.

R5, great clip.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 3, 2019 12:32 AM |
Pink Floyd for me.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 3, 2019 12:42 AM |
Pink Floyd, but mostly Wish You Were Here and earlier
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 3, 2019 12:49 AM |
I liked Procol Harum better than those two - but they were only good for a short time, their 70s albums had one or two good songs at best.
But in general with all these groups they only had a very short shelf life and lived on (& on) in the reflected glory of their better days.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 2, 2019 8:05 PM |
Zep by far. Floyd was stoned noodling by comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 2, 2019 8:25 PM |
APPLES VS. ORANGES, Aspie Pop Cultural Cataloguing Troll.
These are very different bands with different purposes. Zepellin does some things better than Pink Floyd and vice versa.
Why would you be forced to choose? Just to ensnare Dataloungers into more pointless/obvious/redundant conversations with you?
Can you start a thread about something people don't know?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 2, 2019 8:26 PM |
Zeppelin. You're kidding with this question, right? They're light years ahead of Pink Floyd, which is tripping music. I do like some of their songs but maybe 3-4 of them.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 2, 2019 8:30 PM |
Agree that Pink Floyd v. Led Zeppelin is like comparing apples and oranges. However, given a choice, I'd rather listen to Pink Floyd at this point in my life. "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" comes to mind as a beautiful song.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 2, 2019 8:32 PM |
The guys in Pink Floyd wrote their own songs. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant plagiarized everything.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 2, 2019 8:33 PM |
1-Sticky Fingers
2-Exile on Main Street
3-Some Girls
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 2, 2019 8:44 PM |
Pink Floyd for me.
I'm just not a LZ fan. I like a few of their songs, like them a lot, but can't work up an interest in most of their stuff. Floyd, on the other hand, made sever albums that are genius from beginning to end.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 2, 2019 8:45 PM |
R11 - why don't YOU fuck off instead, you pretentious idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 2, 2019 8:46 PM |
R15 Aren't those by the Stones?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 2, 2019 8:47 PM |
P.I.N.K. F.L.O.Y.D. forever. Yeah, Roger Waters turned into a wackjob but I still love the music.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 2, 2019 8:55 PM |
OK, so I’m a Zeppelin monster. I love them and crank ‘em whenever possible. However, I have to give it up to Pink Floyd. Best band ever, after The Beatles.
In order of my personal preferences:
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
The Stones
Led Zeppelin
Fleetwood Mac
Individual Artist:
Bowie

R11 is either new to DL or been on here for too many decades.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 2, 2019 9:01 PM |
Another Floyd pick. I get why LZ is beloved, but Plant's voice, while fantastic, often just irritates me.

Do you have any GAY friends. What do they say about this?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 2, 2019 9:26 PM |
yeah, Roger Waters is cool.
One groupie story I read about Robert Plant is that when he kisses a groupie, he passes a big glob of spit into the girl's mouth. I've never forgotten this story in a book I read decades ago, written by Liv Tyler's mother, a groupie who fucked everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 2, 2019 9:33 PM |
One of the many reasons I prefer Floyd is that every time I look at Robert Plant on film, my evil-dar goes off. I mean, my spidey-senses tingle and something deep in my subconscious goes "BEWARE BEWARE THIS MAN IS FUCKING EVIL". I mean it was Page who was fucking little girls, but Plant is the one who repels me.
I don't get that sense from any other musician. In fact none of the members of Floyd make any sort of strong impression on me, I just like the music.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 2, 2019 10:46 PM |
R25, you obviously aren’t familiar with Ed Sheeran
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 2, 2019 11:09 PM |
Zeppelin
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 2, 2019 11:10 PM |
R22 Plant's whole persona irritates but if I had to choose I'd go with LZ.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 2, 2019 11:38 PM |
R26, what is it with bland singer-songwriter redheads that make them so threatening? Wait, I answered my own question.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 2, 2019 11:58 PM |
R23, you honestly believe gay men don’t like Led Zeppelin? Last I checked, good music isn’t exclusive to heterosexuals, including hard rock & metal genres.
One of the biggest queen’s whom I know & love dearly, breathes, eats and shits Metallica - STILL.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 3, 2019 4:06 PM |
Best Zeppelin song ever for me, because they’re telling us an amazing & fantastic story, set to music.
This was the musical version of Game of Thrones.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 3, 2019 4:11 PM |
Pink Floyd without any hesitation. You can live a life by their work. Dark Side has nourished me since my teens, and the Wall when life got a bit messier. The movie of the Wall is also fantastic. I am not as crazy about the post Waters stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 3, 2019 4:32 PM |
Zep, no contest. I mean, who else could do this? They’re still the best rock band ever.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 4, 2020 8:47 PM |
Zep is better but Pink Floyd influenced better bands.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 4, 2020 8:58 PM |
Roger Waters is NOT a homophobe. It's what a fucking Zionist liar like R1 says to take focus off of what Waters actually stands for rather than defend the despicable human rights violations and murders of Israel, so they have to find others ways to denigrate a person who isn't up their ass.
You know who the homphobes are? All of those Evangelical Zionist preachers like Pat Robertson. You won't see R1 attack him the way he would a Roger Waters.

They can both go fuck themselves for all I care. Like Pink Floyd but don't like Roger Waters.

Was never a big Zeppelin fan though they had some great moments ("Goin' to California" is sublime). Pink Floyd is more my speed but can only take their later material in small doses. I still say there is no better musical experience than laying in bed with "Echoes" playing through headphones.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 4, 2020 9:07 PM |
Laying what in bed? A turd?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 4, 2020 9:11 PM |
There is absolutely nothing evil about Robert Plant. By far the most upfront and independent members of that group.
That story at r24 was about Page, not Plant. Page is the one who boffed Bebe Buell. Plant stuck to the non-famous groupies.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 4, 2020 9:12 PM |
Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page is a genius guitar player.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 4, 2020 9:26 PM |
R37, agreed.
