Walter Scharf's arrangement of People for the title sequence of the film of Funny Girl. It is so evocative of a Broadway and New York that died out in the mid 60s and I wish I had known. I've listened to it often my entire life. Well at least he conducted it. I was shocked to learn he wrote Ben.

I know what you mean R68. I switched from a public school to a private school to avoid bullying.
I actually received more of it at the private school & was suicidal but managed to survive.
I ate alone at lunch even though I was the first one to always sit down in the cafeteria.
Later on I switched tables ( to see the other kids reaction) & I too had that table all to myself.
This song was my favorite anti depressant.
Thanks Belinda!
Your upbeat Go-Go's songs & all your bandmates solo careers really helped me feel better about myself in the long run.

It was so very tough to have no friends and to be targeted every day in high school; but, it taught me to rely on myself. by Anonymous | reply 145 | May 31, 2019 5:54 AM |
Depends if you mean by choice or not.
My parents would play certain songs AT ME repeatedly as a kid hoping I’d grow to love them, usually either soul-funk from my Dad (which took) and ‘70s bubblegum pop from my Mom (which did not). I still fucking hate ‘Bye Bye Baby’ and the like to this day but I know them inside out from lyric to chords. There’s also a lot of hippie pop that I’ve heard hundreds of times thanks to them.
My favorite spins from childhood were actually the ‘80s metal and ballads that my younger aunts & cousins would play kindergarten-aged me on cassette. I would request these over and over and over, week in week out. It’s hard to recall exactly but I think the entirety of Bryan Adams’ RECKLESS album was my most played, especially the songs ‘Somebody’ and ‘Run to You’ with that DRAMATIC music video (swoon).

I'd say it's "Marie's Wedding" any version, but I love the Van Morrison and The Cheiftans recording. Our mum used to sing it and dance with our little feet on top of hers and our hands in hers. Every time I hear it I'm back to being three and twirling around the kitchen laughing. It just makes me happy.

Since 2014, I've used Last.fm to scrobble/track what I listened to on Spotify and YouTube. I don't care for Diana Ross, but I've listened to this song more than any other.

Gimme Shelter because that's the alarm I wake up to everyday. A wonderful way to start my day.
