Why the fuck does Cassie sing WIDFL in 1985’s A Chorus Line?

This song was Priscilla Lopez’s in the original cast. She played Diana of course — a character who was, to some extent, actually based on Lopez. The song grows right out of the character.

So why switch it to Cassie?

Because they didn’t understand the song.

A girder should have fallen on Cassie. What an annoying cunt.

What’s 1985’s A Chorus Line? The movie?

by Anonymousreply 3May 27, 2019 4:38 AM

Well, yes, dear.

by Anonymousreply 4May 27, 2019 4:43 AM

It would have made sense if Cassie sang it the way it was done in the show but the movie made it as moment for her and Zach, which was ridiculous. Bad as it was, think of how it would have been if we had to listen to almost Cassie Ann Reinking sing it.

We're very sorry, Cassie.

Never mind that, why the fuck did they cut Annie's solo version of Tomorrow out of Annie? Annie singing Tomorrow while she's all alone and lost on the streets of NY with nothing but a stray dog to comfort her is the definitive moment of the show Annie. And when they made the film, THEY TOOK IT OUT! They filmed Annie and they cut Tomorrow! Thirty-seven years ago and I still haven't recovered from the shock.

Rose, just be grateful a Landers sister didn't sing the song..

Why did this woman get cast as Cassie in the first place? I believe she had a small part in another movie and never heard og again...

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2019 11:38 AM

R8, actually, she's quite well known to younger audiences from the High School Musical series where she played the frumpy teacher.

God i love this movie.

by Anonymousreply 10May 27, 2019 3:48 PM

Because for some reason when they made the movie they thought it needed a more traditional structure, with a hetero romance front and center. But the show isn't about Zack and Cassie, it's about everybody. So they made some changes to focus more on the two of them.

It wasn't a good idea.

Allyson Reed played Cassie in the film. She's done some good work on Broadway and this might have been her first film. Taking the role of Cassie probably sounded like gold to her, not really knowing how they would twist the story around. But still, although the film is totally misguided and badly directed, Allyson isn't bad.And there was a nice paycheck involved.

It’s the iconic song of the play and in fact the whole point of the play. And it’s not about romantic love. At all.

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2019 7:40 PM

Why don’t they do a LIVE version for TV ? A good version needs to be done. Because tits and ass are bad words ?

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2019 10:48 PM

You can't do a good version because the show has aged so badly and because Bennett was the one who was able to direct it sharply.

by Anonymousreply 15May 27, 2019 11:47 PM

Is this the movie where the that woman bounces around singing about her tits and asshole?

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2019 11:57 PM

I don’t think the show has aged badly at all. Yes it was once about present day but it transformed into a period piece.

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2019 11:59 PM

The story was changed to focus on the love story between Cassie and Zack. It was shit. As afar as being dated, it withstands time, since it was based on the real stories of real people, unlike any of the shit that came out this year.

The revival of ACL closed after 759 performances. Chicago has over 9,000. The audiences have moved on but ironically, Chicago was ahead of its time whereas ACL was a show of its time and that time has long passed.
