He won an Oscar at 20, and got plenty of opportunities for stardom, but it never really happened. Why?
Timothy Hutton: What Happened?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 29, 2019 6:28 AM |
Buck would have never peaked so early.
Wait, I guess he did.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 27, 2019 2:34 AM |
Buck would never have let his chance at stardom pass him by.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 27, 2019 2:34 AM |
He was excellent in his five seasons on Leverage.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 27, 2019 2:35 AM |
Hollywood at the time was just not ready for the kind of high-test male UMAMI he was offering
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 27, 2019 2:36 AM |
He was so cute / handsome when he was younger, but he aged horribly
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 27, 2019 2:37 AM |
He was cute but not handsome. Was never going to be more than a character actor. Probably had as good a career as he should have. If not for nepotism, wouldn't have gotten Ordinary People anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 27, 2019 2:39 AM |
He should have shown dong in Ordinary People.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 27, 2019 2:41 AM |
He looked a lot like his father, who never quite became a star either.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 27, 2019 2:44 AM |
He looks like shit in his new series.
I guess the old saying is true... you get the face you deserve!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 27, 2019 2:44 AM |
Timothy Hutton: What Happened?
Angie, all roads lead to Angie -
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 27, 2019 2:45 AM |
He was married to Debra Winger. Maybe that prematurely aged him.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 27, 2019 2:46 AM |
His dad was so tall.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 27, 2019 2:49 AM |
He became a freemason - seems odd.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 27, 2019 2:49 AM |
I don't think he was into all the Hollywood bullshit. He didn't want to "play the game"
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 27, 2019 3:18 AM |
The first rule of Freemasons is you never talk about Freemasons
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 27, 2019 3:22 AM |
Taps was a hit, but Daniel and Iceman both flopped badly. The Falcon and the Snowman was a bit of a recovery, but not enough to get him onto the A-list.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 27, 2019 3:25 AM |
He showed a cute butt in some film about time travel which came out about 1987 or 1988.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 27, 2019 3:30 AM |
R10 I remember hearing a story that she got a tattoo of his initials after the first time they had sex.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 27, 2019 3:35 AM |
Someone I know who worked on one of his film sets said he was a prick
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 27, 2019 3:36 AM |
IIRC, Jim Hutton was gay.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 27, 2019 3:49 AM |
Such a cutie at first.
But yes, aged HORRIBLY.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 27, 2019 3:52 AM |
Hasn't he made a lot of friends and money doing ensemble shows like Nero Wolfe and Leverage?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 27, 2019 3:53 AM |
YES, R3!
The show, and he in it, are compulsively watchable. It's in my top five all time favorite TV series. They should totally being it back; I could really dig watching the team go after Trump, McConnell, and Jamie Dimon types.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 27, 2019 4:01 AM |
Huttons career faded because of his shitty attitude and his arrogance. He was able to resuscitate his career because as he aged he mellowed out somewhat and he realized he cant treat people like shit if he expects to make a living. Funny that he was married to Debra Winger and they both suffered the same career decline for the same reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 27, 2019 4:10 AM |
So.... he was playing himself in Leverage??
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 27, 2019 4:34 AM |
Hutton is chronicled in "You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again." IIRC, he had a piece of toilet paper hanging from his butt (didn't wash up to get ready for sex with the prostitute).
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 27, 2019 4:36 AM |
Damn, R27, that girl got around! Toto wrote a song about her name. Peter Gabriel wrote a song about her eyes. She also dated Timothy Hutton? Who DIDN'T Rosana bang?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 27, 2019 5:18 AM |
Angie sucked him dry of blood, life and contacts as she slept her way to the top
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 27, 2019 5:28 AM |
R29, He supposedly dumped her, though.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 27, 2019 5:31 AM |
My diagnosis is he has a micropenis or a horse cock, either of which ruined his people skills.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 27, 2019 5:35 AM |
Was his dad really rumored to be gay?!? He was one of my earliest crushes.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 27, 2019 5:43 AM |
Me too, R33! I was probably all of 8 or 9 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 27, 2019 5:47 AM |
I agree that he shouldn't have gotten married. That just gave him an albatross to deal with when he should have been focused on his career. Also, he should have tried to get into the Brat Pack., considering he was in Taps. For young male parts in the 80s, Tom Cruise and then Rob Lowe sucked up those parts.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 27, 2019 5:49 AM |
I enjoyed him in The Dark Half
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 27, 2019 2:42 PM |
He was great (and nominated for awards) in American Crime.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 27, 2019 3:02 PM |
is publicist set him up for pr showmances but couldn't make him an A lister. He must have had a good agent because how in the world did he get that much famous women to appear to date him.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 27, 2019 3:05 PM |
I would never have appeared in Iceman.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 27, 2019 3:38 PM |
R41 At the time he dated them, all of the women mentioned (except Debra Winger) were around his level fame-wise.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 27, 2019 6:48 PM |
Diane Lane was breathtaking when she was young. Actually, she has probably aged better than any woman in Hollywood. Still gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 27, 2019 7:39 PM |
He's pretty basic, not very charismatic or interesting. He's lucky he got that Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 27, 2019 7:41 PM |
Notorious prick. Met a woman on set who bragged that she was good friends with him and she ended up being a major cunt too so guess that makes sense.
Love the story in that hooker book from Liza Greer about having a three way with him and a friend and how he came out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck to his butt. Never looked at him the same after. No wonder all the B.O. rumours (which didn't help things).
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 27, 2019 7:48 PM |
(Having said that, I still think his work in "Ordinary People" is the blue ribbon for young actors -- and Oscar wins, even with the category fraud. He was perfect even when the movie wasn't. And the performance still holds up).
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 27, 2019 7:49 PM |
In the 80s, I watched "The Falcon & the Snowman" many time on HBO. Not sure if I'd still enjoy it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 27, 2019 8:34 PM |
He was offered the parts of both Indiana Jones and Tootsie, but a wise Gary Morton called him up and convinced him to turn them down.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 28, 2019 12:21 AM |
Cute, as a species, does not age well.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 28, 2019 12:24 AM |
Taps was supposed to be his big move to the A list but Penn and Cruise ended up being the rising stars. Great cast in that movie... George C Scott, Evan Handler, Ronny Cox. Falcon and the Snowman was an okay film, Turk182 was the downward slide. I thought he was a good actor but certainly not the first actor to be the “it” thing then fizzle.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 28, 2019 3:12 AM |
I remember reading an interview with him when he was at his height of fame, and he said something like the way to play Hollywood is to never let them think you need them; to make THEM think they need you. Well, Tim, how did that work out?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 28, 2019 3:15 AM |
The book "The Falcon and The Snowman", and its sequel, "The Flight of the Falcon", both by Robert Lindsey, are fantastic reads, real page-turners. The movie didn't capture half the excitement and wildness of the true story, although I loved "This is Not America" on that soundtrack.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 28, 2019 5:27 AM |
I liked Falcon and the Snowman a lot. It gave me hope again for American movies. That ended up being a foolish notion, but for a brief moment, I got to live in optimism. Then came St. Elmo's Fire.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 28, 2019 5:32 AM |
This is Spinal Tap gave me hope for American comedies, then came Turk 182.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 28, 2019 5:38 AM |
I would never have appeared in Turk 182, either.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 28, 2019 5:39 AM |
This is a shitty video, but Hutton looks pretty handsome.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 28, 2019 5:43 AM |
[quote]Cute, as a species, does not age well.
It does for women, though. Look at Sally Field for example.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 28, 2019 5:50 AM |
what had happened??
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 28, 2019 6:01 AM |
He has worked consistently and was on How to Get Away with Murder so he has done well.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 28, 2019 6:10 AM |
Someone at ABC luuuuvs him.
He's been on a few seasons of that anthology show that also had Felicity "Bribe Bitch" Huffman on. Plus HTGAWM.
And he just landed a dad role on a show with Brittany Snow for next season. But THAT show is on Fox.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 28, 2019 1:47 PM |
Wow, R63, I’m sure he’s probably a really nice guy, but it’s odd how many of these celeb kids end up getting the worst genetic traits of two attractive, famous parents...
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 28, 2019 3:34 PM |
He looks more like Winger to me.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 28, 2019 3:36 PM |
R63 - If he becomes an actor, he'll be able to get both white and ethnic roles.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 28, 2019 3:37 PM |
Noah looks perfectly OK to me. His ears stick out a bit is all. How is he in any way ‘ethnic’ ? His mother is Jewish, that’s it. Tim was great in Ordinary People and Leverage was good silly fun.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 28, 2019 3:40 PM |
Tim always came off as aloof. He and Debra made an apt couple, in my mind. Both of them always seemed above it all.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 28, 2019 3:42 PM |
I think you probably have a 2-5 year bump after you win an Oscar to solidify your status in the industry. Most actors that win just settle into picking the best of the worst scripts a lot of the time. Hutton was never going to be Brad Pitt, but he’s worked constantly in the nearly 40 years since winning. Good projects bad projects...they all pay the bills.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 28, 2019 3:45 PM |
He wasn't right for the sorts of roles that catapult male stars into the stratosphere. That would be action roles in the the '80s and superhero roles now.
He's been a working actor for 40 years and that in itself is rare.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 28, 2019 3:49 PM |
Loved Arliss Howard - Debra’s next / current husband - as Captain Push in Medium. I’m a sucker for ridiculous TV series.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 28, 2019 4:01 PM |
Arliss Howard played the pedophile (in an uncredited role) in that TV movie "I Know My First Name Was Steven." *shivers*
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 28, 2019 4:04 PM |
Shitter? Straight down it, the career?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 28, 2019 5:14 PM |
I loved his dad in the Ellery Queen mysteries when I was a kid
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 28, 2019 5:22 PM |
Unrecognizable in "Beautiful Boy", at least at first look.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 28, 2019 5:40 PM |
I know he had a rep of being difficult, but God only knows what difficult really means. It's a word ascribed to so many different kinds of people. Maybe he demanded rewrites on shitty scripts or wanted to make things the best they could be. Shelley Long seemed to suffer from that. She wasn't mean spirited or cruel, but she wanted everything to be good.
Either that or he was a screamer or rageaholic. In that case, fuck him.
He didn't age well, but he was holding up well until around 2000 or so.
He was on The Haunting of Hill House and was quite good, but I kept getting distracted by the fact that he was playing the older version of the characters' dad and Henry Thomas was playing the younger version and it didn't seem like they had a huge age gap between them. They also didn't look much like each other. It would have made sense to have just picked one of them and kept them for the whole runtime.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 28, 2019 5:57 PM |
I'm starting to think that Debra Winger was more of a kook than an actual, mean spirited cunt, because if that's the face she deserves, she must be a good person deep down. She looks gorgeous and quite happy.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 28, 2019 5:58 PM |
Debra is one of those people who looks different in every photo (or she used to, anyway). Eric Clapton is like that, too.
