It's "serviceable."

by Anonymousreply 71June 10, 2019 6:13 PM

Why is the genie being played by someone awful?

by Anonymousreply 1May 22, 2019 1:29 PM

The actor playing Aladdin is hot as fuck. I'm going to see this just for him.

by Anonymousreply 2May 22, 2019 1:36 PM

Yes but they didn't put him the in the slutty vest, so no ticket for me

by Anonymousreply 3May 22, 2019 1:38 PM

will smith ruins it, he so fake and …….unlikeable.

half the audience left midway thru at a preview I saw.

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2019 1:43 PM

How did smith get such a plum role????

weird.

by Anonymousreply 5May 22, 2019 1:44 PM

Okay, but let's admit that that still shot accompanying the OP's review is pretty sweet. It's almost religious in nature - as if something is being revealed to Aladdin.

r2 Right there with you. I want to cuddle with Mena so bad.

by Anonymousreply 6May 22, 2019 1:47 PM

[quote] It's almost religious in nature - as if something is being revealed to Aladdin.

مريم‎!

by Anonymousreply 7May 22, 2019 1:55 PM

Smith is a Scientologist, probably some higher up got him the gig.

by Anonymousreply 8May 22, 2019 2:01 PM

Ha! All this DIE (diversity, inclusion, equity) and the white guy gets the best reviews:

"But it's Billy Magnussen who nearly steals the film with his too brief but hilarious appearances as the bizarrely accented Prince Anders."

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2019 2:12 PM

I'd certainly service him!

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2019 2:24 PM

[QUOTE]Smith is a Scientologist

Will is not a Scientologist anymore.

by Anonymousreply 11May 22, 2019 2:28 PM

smith is an old boring turd

by Anonymousreply 12May 22, 2019 2:29 PM

He's always been fake and unlikable.

by Anonymousreply 13May 22, 2019 2:36 PM

Is that why his movies have made so much money?

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2019 2:51 PM

[quote]I'd certainly service him!

Puke

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2019 2:53 PM

Will gets these "plum" roles by doling out his plum-colored cock head!

by Anonymousreply 16May 22, 2019 2:54 PM

Considering Robin Williams performance as an animated Genie, I don't see how this can possibly compare.

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2019 2:56 PM

Will Smith was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. My god is he insufferable. Speaking about himself in the third person, talking about how famous he was and how that enslaved him, blah blah blah. He is such a egotistical tool.

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2019 3:04 PM

Reviews seem to paint Will as the highlight of the movie, with the picture suffering when he’s not on screen. I certainly wasn’t expecting that.

by Anonymousreply 19May 22, 2019 3:04 PM

Will this get Razzie noms?

by Anonymousreply 20May 22, 2019 3:07 PM

"Reviews seem to paint Will as the highlight of the movie, with the picture suffering when he’s not on screen."

I was there FIRST!!!!

by Anonymousreply 21May 22, 2019 3:14 PM

It's not really a surprise, Smith became a star for a reason, he has some real charisma on screen r19.

by Anonymousreply 22May 22, 2019 3:19 PM

I think it is amusing how when it comes to a crucial main character, the films antagonist, the review has nothing to say.

Clearly the perception of the actor's ability to play Jafat that we saw in trailers was accurate.

by Anonymousreply 23May 22, 2019 3:26 PM

Big Willie absolutely can not keep his straight hands off his smoking hawt 110% hetero no carpet munchin Missus. Did he mention she' not a lesbian?

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2019 3:30 PM

SJWs and Guy Ritchie, it was doomed from the start.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2019 3:35 PM

That picture looks so ridiculous

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2019 4:25 PM

It's hard to look at. Will Smith looks like an alien. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2019 4:30 PM

More about Prince Anders please.

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2019 4:32 PM

There's absolutely no reason to have Billy Magnussen in a movie unless he shows his nipples.

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2019 4:34 PM

All the “live-action” Disney remakes (which are more CGI than “live” anything) are serviceable at best. But as long as they keep making mint, quality won’t matter. #fighttheDisneymonopoly

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2019 4:34 PM

The willingness of Disney to repeatedly tarnish their brand for quick money is so dumb. Walt would not have been happy.

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2019 4:34 PM

R11 uh, yes he is, as is his family. They have been Scientologists for ages.

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2019 4:35 PM

When MAD Magazine parodied the original, they used Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket to comment on it Siskel and Ebert-style. Pinoke gave it a wooden thumb up, while an uncharacteristically sarcastic Jiminy Cricket said, "company wonk! If it wasn't a Disney movie, you would have hated it as much as I did!" It looks like another one of those.

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2019 4:35 PM

Was The Lion King remake a success?

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2019 4:37 PM

they didn't release it yet.

by Anonymousreply 35May 22, 2019 4:38 PM

[quote] All the “live-action” Disney remakes (which are more CGI than “live” anything) are serviceable at best. But as long as they keep making mint, quality won’t matter. #fighttheDisneymonopoly

Walt Disney made two remakes in a single year, 1960, when [italic]Swiss Family Robinson[/italic] (previously filmed in 1940 by RKO) and [italic]Pollyanna[/italic] (previously filmed as a silent Mary Pickford movie) came out. He wasn't the first, best, or worst to make [italic]Babes in Toyland[/italic] into a movie. In animation, he made two versions each of [italic]Noah's Ark[/italic] and [italic]The Ugly Duckling[/italic]. But he never made them the majority of the whole slate.

by Anonymousreply 36May 22, 2019 4:42 PM

The quote in R36 should have been of R31.

by Anonymousreply 37May 22, 2019 4:43 PM

"The willingness of Disney to repeatedly tarnish their brand for quick money is so dumb."

They've practically worn out the Star Wars franchise with their get-rich-quick scheme of releasing too many "new" SW/sequel/prequel/spin-off movies.

by Anonymousreply 38May 22, 2019 4:54 PM

The review in The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that the genie (Will Smith) is so highly muscled that it is distracting. I have always admired Will's body.

by Anonymousreply 39May 22, 2019 5:08 PM

Cannot stand Will Smith or Guy Richie. I hope it bombs in comparison to the lion king.

by Anonymousreply 40May 22, 2019 6:28 PM

R39 I thought the body was CGI and just the head was Will?

by Anonymousreply 41May 22, 2019 6:57 PM

It looks like shit. Will looks ridiculous and Jasmine looks like she belongs in a porn parody.

by Anonymousreply 42May 22, 2019 7:34 PM

R14 YUP. R39 It's CGI dummy. haha.

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2019 7:39 PM

Will Smith isn't at the top of his game anymore and he's doing what he has to for a (very big, I'm sure) paycheck

by Anonymousreply 44May 22, 2019 7:42 PM

What's with the squeaky voice on the lead? Nails on blackboard.

Pass. Shit, go ahead and boycott Disney altogether, actually.

by Anonymousreply 45May 22, 2019 7:42 PM

I haven't given Disney a dime in five years.

by Anonymousreply 46May 22, 2019 7:46 PM

Live action CGI musical with a bunch of nobodies. AND will smith.

by Anonymousreply 47May 22, 2019 7:53 PM

^^^I LOVE that. haha.

by Anonymousreply 48May 22, 2019 7:58 PM

Its OK. Will Smith powers it with his star quality and the audience I saw it with loved it. The two leads are very bland however. I think it will be a hit but not massive as musicals don't really do blockbuster numbers, especially in the US.

by Anonymousreply 49May 22, 2019 9:42 PM

[quote]Smith became a star for a reason, he has some real charisma on screen

No.

He has a big mouth, and he mugs endlessly. Simpletons are fooled by that.

by Anonymousreply 50May 22, 2019 9:43 PM

^^^EXACTLY

by Anonymousreply 51May 22, 2019 11:25 PM

I am no fan of Will Smith, but to pretend that he has no talent or charisma is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 52May 23, 2019 12:09 AM

Girl please.

by Anonymousreply 53May 23, 2019 12:15 AM

R32, they’ve been out for awhile. Leah Remini and Jada even had a confrontation recently.

by Anonymousreply 54May 23, 2019 2:06 AM

Broken:

[quote]I am no fan of Will Smith, but to pretend that he has no talent or charisma is bullshit.

Fixed:

[quote]I am no fan of Will Smith. To pretend that he has talent, or charisma, is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 55May 23, 2019 2:51 AM

Forget Will Smith, I'm more interested in the cutie playing Aladdin.

Who's had him?

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2019 3:58 AM

I love Will Smith’s jacked, muscled and meaty blueness.

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2019 4:22 AM

For this we got rid of Eisner?

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2019 4:23 AM

[quote] I am no fan of Will Smith, but to pretend that he has no talent or charisma is bullshit.

He was genuinely good in [italic]Independence Day[/italic] and the first [italic]Men in Black[/italic] movie which proved he could act outside his "Fresh Prince" rap and sitcom persona, but lately he's been coasting with some of the roles he's taken.

by Anonymousreply 59May 23, 2019 4:25 AM

I'd service that Jafar all day any day!

by Anonymousreply 60May 23, 2019 5:41 AM

[quote]he could act outside his "Fresh Prince" rap and sitcom persona

No.

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2019 5:59 AM

[quote]I love Will Smith’s jacked, muscled and meaty blueness.

It's pixels, geektard. Hollow, soulless CGI. Do you also jack off to the lifeless moving images you see when you're gaming?

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2019 6:13 AM

The lead playing aladdin looks like Riddick stone but with hair ( gay porn star) he apparently is a Broadway actor? Is he gay?

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2019 6:15 AM

It's at 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, 6.6 on IMDB.

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2019 12:36 PM

I don't know why anyone would waste their time watching this. I didn't watch Beauty and the Beast either. Such crap.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2019 1:37 PM

I watched Beauty and the Beast for free on a plane.

You shouldn't spend money on these movies.

by Anonymousreply 66May 23, 2019 2:11 PM

I still wouldn't be able to do it for free. haha. No way. Seems like torture to get through and we already know the story. My god.

by Anonymousreply 67May 23, 2019 2:41 PM

[quote]I watched Beauty and the Beast for free on a plane. You shouldn't spend money on these movies.

Somebody is because they keep making them. Seriously, some of the worst Disney films EVER have come out of the current executive administration.

by Anonymousreply 68May 23, 2019 2:54 PM

R54 proof?

by Anonymousreply 69May 23, 2019 9:18 PM

Will Smith ruined that Wild Wild West movie.

by Anonymousreply 70May 23, 2019 9:19 PM

Will Smith is just dreadful in this. He has no emotion in his acting, and his singing makes Pierce Brosnan sound like Brian Stokes Mitchell.
