Your average Joe doesn't want their Batman to be the guy from Twilight.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 17, 2019 1:59 AM |
No thank you. I've seen him in other movies...he's suited for drama. NOT action.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 17, 2019 1:59 AM |

He's been gaining respect as an actor, but mainly for doing roles unlike this. I'm having a hard time envisioning him in the part, but I like Matt Reeves as a director.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 17, 2019 2:27 AM |
I don't think he'll do a terrible job with the role.
Do his Twilight fraus still buy three seats each, for each time they go to a showing of his films? Like he told them to? If so, DCWB could make some money from this movie, at least.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 17, 2019 2:29 AM |

They're resoundingly positive on Reddit. It's cool to like Pattinson now due to his roles in films like The Rover, Good Time, Lost City of Z etc. Plenty are rooting for him, and those that just see him as Twilight boy are seen as out of touch.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 17, 2019 2:32 AM |
Mmmmmm....Nic Hoult. Can he be the villain? The naked villain? Pattinson doesn't do anything for me but Hoult, OTOH...
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 17, 2019 2:33 AM |
Why not an American actor. I like Nicholas hoult since about a boy but those two might be better playing robin.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 17, 2019 2:34 AM |
After the success of Wonder Woman and Aquaman looks like WB wants a much more female friendly Batman.

Is Ezra still playing the Flash? Pattinson and Miller could show up at pressers together, in wacky clothes and greasy hair, rubbing on one another like puppies. Maybe Momoa would gave to wrestle them apart?
I'm suddenly ok with him playing Batman. Or Calendar Man. Whoever.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 17, 2019 2:37 AM |
Yeah Marvel might have done another Spiderman reboot, but at least they completely skipped the origin story r46. They knew they didn't need to milk the Uncle Ben thing for audiences yet again.

R44 It will be an oriental American actor to appeal to the Far East market until Hollywood can fire all actors and just use avatars or something

There is no Alfred but Michael Caine. I'd love to see him refer to RP's Bruce as 'that little ponce'.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 17, 2019 2:37 AM |
R43 Agreed that Hoult needs more naked time. Naked and slutty.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 17, 2019 2:38 AM |
Nicholas Hoult possible as Batman? Never heard of him, and he's 29 - too young and too young looking for the role. Next!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 17, 2019 2:39 AM |
In fact, I bet he'd make a great Hamlet. What's the Old Vic doing next season, Rob?

Fifty Shades of Batman

Somewhere, Armie Hammer quietly weeps.

Haha, are they trying to end Batman films for good?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 17, 2019 2:41 AM |
R49. White American actors do sell tickets in East Asia so an Asian actor is not needed to make sure the movie does well in asia.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 17, 2019 2:41 AM |
Perhaps Hoult's hole looks older than 29, R52? I think this ought to be taken into consideration!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 17, 2019 2:42 AM |
Is this a joke? Who did he fuck for this??
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 17, 2019 2:43 AM |
At least he is young, fit and has a full head of beautiful hair. That's more than old, bloated, wig-wearing Affleck could offer.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 17, 2019 2:44 AM |
R49 is nuts, and R57 is exactly right. Asians would rather go to the movies to see white actors than Asians. They worship the ground that the white man walks on.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 17, 2019 2:44 AM |
Wait! Didn't that fug frau who 'wrote' Fifty Shades, base it on Pattinson and Twilight? Hahaha! Yes, yes she DID! So, by casting him, DCWB will bring her and her loonies into the mix, with the Twilight fraus AND the DC fanboys!
Hahahahaha!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 17, 2019 2:45 AM |
The age isn't the problem. Most on screen Batmans have been too old.
Bruce Wayne started doing the Batman thing around 24-25, and typical comic book Batman is a man in his mid-thirties.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 17, 2019 2:45 AM |
[QUOTE]At least he is young, fit and has a full head of beautiful hair. That's more than old, bloated, wig-wearing Affleck could offer.
Pattinson fit? Ben Affleck, when he’s in shape for a role, has a way better body than anything we’ve seen from Pattinson.

Christian Bale was 30 when he started playing Batman.

Hollywood trainers could turn John Goodman into Batman given enough time. Maybe this time they wouldn't have to airbrush RP's abs like they did in Twilight.

Affleck is a slab of beef. He doesn’t need steroids. He didn’t even get all that big, just hit the gym and tightened up.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 17, 2019 2:58 AM |
Great. An even worse actor than Affleck. He hit the wall 10 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 17, 2019 2:58 AM |
R26 he sleeps. Batman works nights like a 3rd shift nurse. He doesn’t have unlimited energy like Superman. His ass is passed out from 7a-5p. Alfred knows not to fucking attempt to venture to his wing of Wayne Manor during those hours.

Is there any Batman villain who wore just a loincloth? We need for Hoult to play Evil Loincloth Man.
This new, younger Batman ought to disarm his opponents by way of Turkish wrestling

Patterson was great in the indie movie High Life. He will do fine. Can someone help me, has Disney purchased DC yet? That franchise neeeds an Avengers makeover.
Hopefully X-Men gets the same TLC from Disney.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 17, 2019 3:00 AM |
Rob Pattinson tried to bulk up for Twilight and this is the most he could muster.

Who is going to play Selina Kyle?
by Anonymous | reply 100 | May 17, 2019 3:04 AM |
It is a very strange choice, but then again, so was Bale although there is one huge difference between them. Bale can act.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | May 17, 2019 3:04 AM |
No that you know it from the Batman films he made.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 17, 2019 3:06 AM |
It's hard to gauge how the internet feels about this choice. But I think Reeves knows what he's doing. Haven't most left field Batman choices turned out alright?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 17, 2019 3:07 AM |
Ugh. There’s a hundred young guys arriving in LA every day. 99 of them are better suited to this role than this charmless, charisma free bowl of English oatmeal with womanly hips. Why do they try to foist these dull people on us.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 17, 2019 3:07 AM |
Batman and Robin made everyone terrified of having a Robin.
The whole Batfamily is a crucial part of the Batman character, he should have a Dick Grayson. But I am guessing the movie won't.

by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 17, 2019 3:15 AM |
Maybe they'll give Pattinson a CGI Batman body? They've had worse ideas.
Nah. They will claim he spent 10 months in the gym, eight hours a day...but it will be supplements and steroids.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | May 17, 2019 3:16 AM |
He could not be worse than Christian Bale. He blew huge chunks.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | May 17, 2019 3:17 AM |
Have you watched 'Suicide Squad'? I assure you, R112, WBDC can gleefully do worse than Bale.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 17, 2019 3:19 AM |
Pattinson has too many female hormones in his system. Supplements aren’t going to do anything for him, and steroids might just wreck his body even worse after he stops lifting weights as soon as filming ends and runs to the nearest pizza parlor.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | May 17, 2019 3:21 AM |
A young Mr Sophia Vergaro, Joe Whatshisname, should have been in a superhero franchise.
Rob should do a movie with his female equivalent Dakota Johnson. They can play it on loop in hospitals to save on anaesthesia costs.

R81 So that's where the CGI budget for that POS film went, airbrushing out Affleck's titties.

Aren't there any bland American actors left? What does RP bring to this film or franchise?

Batman has always made more sense if you think of him as a closeted gay man. The attempts to give him female love interests never feel right.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | May 17, 2019 3:44 AM |
Agree, R136. Batman was always going to be a man married to his job, not to a Silver St. Cloud or a Vicky Vale.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | May 17, 2019 3:49 AM |
Well if that’s the case then James Bond could be a closeted gay man.

Bruce is a man who just pretends to be a socialite flirt, I mean everything about the Bruce Wayne public persona is a controlled act. Sounds like some closet cases I know.

Welp, this version of Batman won't do a crossover with Cavill's Superman. There aren't enough steroids on Earth that Pattison could take for him to look buff, standing next to Henry.
I don't mind this casting but wish they had chosen a guy with the possibility of a larger frame.

Pattinson didn't have a box office hit since Twilight given that he only made small indie movies. To me it's really surprising how hard WB pushes him. The new Nolan film and The Batman will be 2 of the biggest movies in 2020 and 2021 and he got them both. That's kinda crazy.

Fans Wants Kristen Stewart As Catwoman Alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman
The recent reports that Robert Pattinson is all but locked in as the successor to Ben Affleck in The Batman sent shockwaves throughout social media. The sadly predictable reaction touched on Pattinson’s time in the Twilight franchise, as folks behaved with puzzled dismay that anyone who’d appeared in something so disgustingly feminine could ever be their rock-solid man’s man Caped Crusader.
Perhaps they’re forgetting that this whole scene played itself out just over a decade ago though when Heath Ledger was announced as the new Joker. Sure, he’s now considered the finest actor to play the role, but at the time fans were positively howling with derision.
But if this new campaign bears fruit, that howling might reach a new volume. That’s because Twilight fans, hopped up on the news that they’re going to get to see Pattinson in a sculpted rubber suit,

No, people don’t want to see a black Batman. People do want to see a black Captain America because Falcon was Captian America in the comics. But they do not want to see a black Steve Rogers.
That’s why people were up in arms over a black Johnny Storm but embraced Miles Morales as a black Spider-Man. Miles was welcomed as a black Spider-Man in Into the Spider-Man because he wasn’t playing a black Peter Parker but an original character. No one wants to see a black Bruce Wayne, just like no one wants to see a black Clark Kent. But if it’s about the character in R236, then that’s fine since he isn’t Clark Kent.

Really, he just needs to ooze down into a rubber batsuit and bark out some one-liners to some baddies, without stomping all over any major plot point in Bat-history and the fanboys will be fine.
That he brings his own, ahem, BATshit fanbase (and their $$$$) with him will help the movie's revenue no matter the reviews so that will also make the fanboys happy.
