I will give Meghan credit where it is due. She has managed to attract many raving lunatics, morons, and uninformed dipshits into new fans of the royals. She really should be crowned the next Queen.

Do you suppose Charles upon meeting this newest grandson said the words, "Oh god, it's a boy." Adding, "And he's even got red hair."

Back on the last thread where someone said Instagram isn't important. We know it's not but for meghan and her supporters it's like the ultimate win. If they overtake the Cambridges, lainey and kaiser won't shut up about it. Their stans will somehow think that means they deserve to be king and queen. I'm the only who took all this to heart and let the injustice get to me. So I want it to hurt them and I want Cambridges to still have more followers and the lot because that seems to be level the sussexes and their stans seem to be at and i want them constantly come up short in the fame department. That will make meghan come tumbling back down to earth.

I hope Eugie is pregnant. I have a sneaking suspicion JM is going to be frozen out of the godmother running and that Amal and Eugenie will be receive the honour. It will be MEghan's transparent attempt to pretend she and Eug are tight, no hard feelings about the tacky maternity coat stunt at the wedding doncha know. Then when pictures are taken I hope Eugie double-cups her growing bump for all its fucking worth. It will drive Smegs mad with envy to have a Eugie bump distracting the cameras.

You Brits don’t understand Americans.. We do not drool over Harry because he’s a prince. Titles don’t mean anything except to a tiny number. Interest in the British royals is minimal. Articles in the nyt and WaPo have barely been commented on. Harry has wealth and position he didn’t earn, to us so he is merely a “legacy”. Many scions of the very rich in America end up as losers, drug addicts or aimless drifters. Americans like enterprising people who have done something to earn acclaim. Aside from that, Harry is not smart at all, does not have a secondary education and appears emotionally stunted. Neither does he have charm or wit. harry has earned the affection of the British people because of a tragedy that occurred at age 12, and also because peoole found his child-like antics amusing. In contrast, the Kennedy children were accomplished, quite normal and never whined about the loss of their father. JFK, Jr. was charming and personable. Caroline graduated from Harvard Law. And of course, the Kennedy children did not live off the largesse of the taxpayers.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 17, 2019 12:58 AM |
I do not believe there is competition between the Cambridges and Sussexes. I think H&M simply want to do their own thing without a lifetime of having to kiss up to W&K plus their children. The only thing Harry has of value is his title which if he lived in the U.S. would guarantee him A-List for the rest of his life. Harry fulfilled his role once George was born. The BRF should allow him to "retire" with a stipend to the U.S.

As I said on the previous thread, don't count JM out - she and MeAgain spent years getting very matey, going on holidays together, etc. Jessica knows enough about Meghan to make it as much as Meghan's future is worth to ghost JM. She won't, even though JM is now definitely small potatoes to the fomer Suitcase Girl Turned Royal Duchess.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 17, 2019 1:02 AM |
I do not think Meghan ghosted anyone. I think that after all the trash talk over the shower, they decided to go low key about the baby.
BTW - I still do not believe Meghan's friends did anything wrong in throwing her a expensive shower. She has wealthy friends. Surprise, right?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 17, 2019 1:06 AM |
There is nothing wrong with a baby shower. It was the blatant marching and vulgar media circus she created that was the issue. She wanted the world to know about her baby shower. She married into the wrong family if she want ostentatious displays of wealth 24/7 like that.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 17, 2019 1:13 AM |
R32 - How blind can you be? Of course they did something wrong: they made it as public as possible the same week that 3,500 auto workers in Swindon were told the Honda plant was closing and they were all going to lose their jobs. When you marry into this, you're supposed to be sensitive to issues like this, but Meghan Markle was too interested in playing the Celebrity Star having expensive loot heaped on her at one of the world's most expensive hotels.
They all have rich friends. But some of them have the brains to realise that optics being what they are, you keep certain things quiet and out of sight.
Yes, they were wrong and she was wrong. She lapped it up like the arriviste poseur she is and she didn't have the brains or sensitivity to hide it.
She was, in factk, showing off, which is anathema to the values the monarchy allegedly subscribes too.
Those Honda workes are amongst the UK taxpayers who helped pay out three million pounds to refurbish her fucking cottage.
Yes - there was something wrong with it. You have to be American or you'd realise why.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 17, 2019 1:19 AM |
Did Diana have a baby shower? Did Kate?
I have no idea.
If they did, I don’t know who attended. I don’t know how much it cost, or what food was served or what gifts were paraded in front of the paparazzi.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 17, 2019 1:27 AM |
R34 a woman shouldn't have her baby shower with her friends because factory workers are losing their jobs? Meghan haters will come up with anything to bitch at the woman.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 17, 2019 1:49 AM |
I received immense amusement at Meghan tipping off the press about where she was going and what was happening where during her NYC sojourn for her baby shower; and then seeing the press pens were only a quarter full and no public interest gathered around to gawk at her. They couldn't give a toss about her. Video showed people just kept walking up and down the sidewalks getting on with their day. It was like a flashback to Trump's inauguration. It seems a lot of hype that Americans are fans of Meghan and dubious that they would care at all who she is if she no longer has the gravitas as a working royal of the BRF.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 17, 2019 1:50 AM |
It's even better when you remember that her little baby shower was probably the step too far that angered a lot of people. And it cost her the ability to sneak away to the Oscars. She played herself.

Gays and Frauen: I was beholding photographs of our Royal Dreamboatness, preparing to unzip my pants, when all of a sudden it hit me like I wish our prized man-stud's testicles would smack our chin during oral copulation. His daughter Princess Beatrice's odd features would be better, if she had a larger nose to balance them out.
I usually reserve photo editing to inserting Andrew in sexy, and arousing situations. (Also the occasional tampon box featuring Charles) However I have used it to enlarge her nose. Do tell me if you believe this would make her face better off than what she is currently working with. The photo to the left is her sad current situation. The photo to the right is the "corrected" version.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 17, 2019 2:32 AM |
R43, I think that baby shower was a Sunshine Sachs endeavor. It is perfectly possible for VIPs to carry on doing whatever they need to do, unperturbed in NYC. Okay, maybe there are some K-Pop groups who might get mobbed.
But the way they merched the hell out of that shower seemed beyond.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 17, 2019 2:34 AM |
R39/42 cannot wrap her mind around the concept that a famous woman can have a baby shower without alerting the press in the media capitol of the world. Or that a woman of Meghan's wealth and means who claims a special status as humanitarian and world savior should not flaunt her wealth and means when others who pay for her special privileges suffer. I mean really. Did she really need to do the various pap walks in her big sunglasses? What the fuck is wrong with humility, even if it's fake?

When the institution that gave you all your privileges and the status and recognition that is the ONLY reason those "friends" are even willing to give you the time of day stands on the kinife-edge of the public good will: yes: you do it quietly and out of sight or you tell your rich shallow celebrity friends Thank you so much for the thought, but donate the money to charity in our name instead..
You enter the Golden Circle, you pay a price: you can't do what you want when you want and you can't be yourself on your own terms.

Tweeting for Her Majesty? How's that for a line on your resume or CV, as the British put it.
But it's a real job, it turns out, and for the grand salary of about $38,000 annually, you can become social-media manager for Queen Elizabeth II, the 93-year-old monarch who is savvy enough to know she has to go with the flow when it comes to modern communication.
Thus, the job description posted on the Royal Household website Thursday.
"About the role: It's knowing your content will be viewed by millions," it starts out. "It's finding new ways to maintain The Queen's presence in the public eye and on the world stage. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional."
The queen is coming slightly tardy to the social-media party but it is a testament to her shrewdness that she and her top staff have grasped the necessity.
Some of her grandchildren already have a robust social-media presence with staffers to tweet and post on Instagram for them. Others, such as Princess Eugenie of York, manage their own.
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex launched their own Instagram account last month, which they use to post mostly about their royal engagements and charities.
They also posted the news of the birth of their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6. They must be doing something right because the expertly curated page already has 8 million followers. "Joining this fast-paced and dynamic team, your challenge will be to manage and oversee the daily news flow on digital and social networking platforms, as well as play a key part in some of the digital projects," the job description says.
"Whether you're covering a state visit, award ceremony or royal engagement, you'll make sure our digital channels consistently spark interest and reach a range of audiences."
It sounds like what a modern journalist does, except it's supposed to be a Monday-Friday job and the journalists who cover the royals may work many more hours than that given royal schedules.
Also, the salary is not astounding by American standards, but think of the reach:
"The reaction to our work is always high-profile, and so reputation and impact will be at the forefront of all you do," burbles the job description." And having your work shared around the world will be the biggest reward."
The job is open until May 26 and you can apply by clicking on a blue APPLY button. It doesn't say applicants should be British, but if you're an American you'll have to learn how to write "British" with its spelling, syntax and punctuation peculiarities.

Hindsight always being 20/20, I will bet that Chuck, Big Liz, and company would have demanded Meghan invite her family, and attempted to include Thomas in fold. I feel for Meghan. While I do not condone ghosting, clearly her extended family are trashy. We all have "that side of the family" and they are an embarrassment, sure. However they are usually always invited to family functions. They may not show up, but an invitation is always extended.

R27, that's true for Harry I suppose. But celeb culture rules supreme in the US and lots of younger (and I use that term loosely) see Megs thusly. These people don't read the Times or WaPo. They get their "news" from social media; Beyonce is their queen. They look at the Sussex social media for a (supposed) inside look into a celeb's life and skip the dull bits about humanitarian causes (I've heard some complain about the boring captions). I look forward to watching how MM continues to serve that public while at the same time trying to be seen as a do-gooder. I'm sure there'll be lots of ridiculousness.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 17, 2019 5:23 AM |
R39, Let us simify:
Meghan and Harry live off The People.
Meghan made a vulgar display both of being wealthy from The People and of hobnobbing with fellow rich women.
Thousands of The People, in simultaneously becoming unemployed en masse, took a dim view of the vulgar display of the Duchess of Sussex, seeing it as uncaring of HER BENEFACTORS' plight.
A Duchess is, you see, by being on what amounts to the dole on steroids, not simply any woman having a baby shower.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 17, 2019 5:46 AM |
R71, I get it. You are all about appearances but no substance. Pretend that BRF is not living it up when in reality they are. I am not British, glad I am not, but it does not matter how modest any member of the BRF may act in public, they are living large. It does not matter that they make appearances for charities and at events. Their "work" is not enough to fund the life of leisure they live. The truth is that MM is an American who has finally shown Brits that the emperor has no clothes on and she is resented for that. Get rid of that stupid institution.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 17, 2019 7:28 AM |
Whether or not the work the RF do (and some of it is definitely of the much more nebulous variety, related to national symbols and history etc.) is 'worth it' is really a call for the British people, R72. I say that as someone who mainly feels ambiguous about the whole lot of them, excepting Lizzie herself.
It's interesting to see Americans acting as if this is an argument, because it really isn't. You may prefer MM (or any royal) to the others, or you may not. But the role of the RF in British public life isn't really a debate, even if you do like her and not the rest of them. The baby shower was a colossal fuck up in the context of her role. I would have had zero opinions on that baby shower if MM had married Random Private Billionaire #345. But she didn't. She specifically married Main Member of the BRF. And that means she has to play by their rules. That's not a debate. That's just a fact. You can like her better than them. You can think she's an awesome rebel and a breath of fresh air. You really can think all of those things. But you can't be surprised or offended that people dislike her, or that she's criticized.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 17, 2019 8:29 AM |
W and W for R72. Wills and Kate went on so many super expensive holidays during their first year of marriage, but nobody criticised them here. Kate has lived off the British public all her lazy life, whilst MM supported herself until a year ago.

We got rid of the monarchy once, we don't need yanks to tell us about our institutions. We are well aware of how privileged the brf are. MeGain is showing us anything new. We just resent funding a greedy, vulgar social climber who is unwilling to do the job she got when she married Dimwit. She is there to represent UK plc, in return for various privileges. Instead she's grabbed everything and is only representing MeGain inc.

Using the Kennedy children as an example to look up to is laughable. So many strings were pulled for those kids it isn't even funny. Their whole fortune was based on Joe Srs scams and mob ties. Intelligent? Lmfao. Didn't it take John Jr several attempts to pass the bar? Of course Caroline didn't get get denied Harvard but how can we prove she actually earned her place there? That whole family is scandalous and a giant embarrassment to the American people. And yes, many Americans do indeed like the royal family.

Here's the thing, being a member of the BRF is not a popularity contest, it's not American Idol where you vote for your favourite contestant. Unfortunately a lot of morons seem to think it is, if MM gets more people following her on Instagram, she doesn't get crowned the winner of the BRF.

R80: Honey, they're all living off the British taxpayers (and their inherited wealth). They get to call themselves royal and live in palaces and do charity "work" to fill their time. It's obviously something Megs wanted, otherwise she would've declined Harry's proposal, like his other girlfriends did (despite actually being in love with him, in contrast to Miss M, I suspect).
This ain't a Kate v Meghan or a UK v US thing. Meghan is fun for us because she's so obviously a social climber who does amusing things. Kate is also a social climber, but she doesn't do anything amusing. She's a bit dull, like most of the rest of the royal family.

R78 - Yes, the privileged rich are the privileged rich everywhere. But you know what? They don't have huge sums of public money set aside annually JUST to pay for their staffs, home renovations, travel, and wardrobes. And they can't remain in political power unless they can get elected. Ted Kennedy knew after Chappaquiddick that he could kiss the White House goodbye. The Windsors are a hereditary monarchy: they are Heads of State: the Queen can dissolve a government and ask the leader of the oppostion to form a new one; she rides to House of Government each year and reads off what the governnment's priorities and policies are going to be that year: her face is on the stamps and currency: the PM meets with her every week and she receives deeply sensitive and important state papers every day in a red dispatch box that she has to go over: she has three constitutional rights: to be consulted, to advise, and to warn.
If you think that's just the same as being John-John, Jr., think again.
She represents a long line of British history and the continuation of tradition going back 1,000 years.
She's can't be "un-elected". No matter how unpopular her Heir is, he can't be "unelected" either. William would have to be caucght molesting toddlers as he boils bunny for their breakfast before he could be involuntarily knocked out of line (something the fraus on CB constantly forget as they coo over Harry and Meghan).
Rich monarchy isn't an equivalency with rich politicians and rich celebrities. They are scrupulously held to a neutral political position - something Meghan also seems uncomfortable with, although she's not uncomfortable with a million dollar wardrobe, a home on the Frogmore estate, luxury travel, large staffs, limousines, and a father-in-law who gives her husband somewhere in the region of £200,000 annually to supplement the poor boy's £300,000 a year from his trust.
The friends she has now didn't know her name before it leaked out that she was dating a Windsor. They wouldn't have thrown her banana peel, let alone a baby shower, before she got HRH in front of her name and got photographed on a balcony with Britain's Queen and next two Kings.

David Emanuel makes horrific wedding dresses, but on this point I can't say I disagree with him.
By the way, to have Diana's wedding dress designer saying this a SERIOUS BuckHouse PR at work.

David Emanuel really hates Ralph Lauren.
[quote] Following the birth of baby Archie, Emanuel said he could see Baby Sussex sporting English fashion, such as ' little shirts, Peter Pan collars, Mother of Pearl buttons and little shorts as he gets older.'
[quote] 'But American is Meghan. Meghan is American. So who knows, he might be in baby Ralph Lauren? Who knows,' he said.
[quote] Emanuel added that dressing a baby in all Ralph Lauren would be 'expensive' and 'unnecessary,' adding: 'But you know she's the Mother. If she wants to put him in baby Ralph Lauren, it will be in baby Ralph Lauren.'

Well I personally do not respect the fake pomp and circumstance of that awful woman you call your Queen or the rest of her folks. Personally your BRF is the original reality show because they are not "royal", who is?. So I am thrilled to see Meghan earn the ire of the British people by not playing your game. Lady Pamela Hicks and her husband David Hicks. You know Pammy - she's always appearing in the recent documentaries re the Queen. Interesting marriage considering the husband's flagrant other interests - he made no bones about it, and never cared who knew or what was said. He had lots of men on the side. Exactly, r154. All typed BC's are signed in script by the informant. It's all so odd.

They can't even get something as basic as a Birth Certificate right.
I believe she was pregnant, and gave birth, but this is all so strange. At every single stage it's not been "different" or "tradition-breaking", it's just been VERY strange, and unduly secretive, and almost ....sleazy.

R163 Exactly! There's always something not quite right
by Anonymous | reply 164 | May 17, 2019 4:05 PM |
R162 I actually have 2 different versions. It's not technically the birth certificate. It's a Certified Copy Of An Entry. One copy is handwritten by the deputy registrar and signed by my father. One is typed and signed by the deputy registrar.
I suspect there is also a handwritten copy of Archie's birth entry but the typed copy has been released to the public.
R163 there s nothing tradition breaking about the birth certificate. It's a bog standard document that looks like many other birth certificates in the UK.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | May 17, 2019 4:09 PM |
So why not release the handwritten original one instead of courting more drama? It's sleazy and sketchy af, especially considering just how much confusion lies around this kid.

R166
1. because they don't have t release anything really. It's a public document go ask for a copy
2. because nutters send death threats to public officials because of their handwriting
3. because it's not precedent setting since the birth entry for Louis was also typed.
Pick you favourite and run with it, or believe there's so underhanded plot afoot.

Meanwhile, back to more exciting news: even the fraus on CB are questioning the wisdom of the Gayle King special, which, one of them glumly said, is basically going to be a TV replay of the PEOPLE Magazine article in which Meghan authorised "friends" to make her sound like the most wonderful person in the world, and the words "cloying" and "insincere" were used about the little seen of it.
As one of the posters on CB said, "Why do I get the feeling this was not a good idea on the part of Meghan's PR"?
This is why people dislike Meghan so much: you can always see the wheels going around, you can always hear the "Love me! Love me! I'm wonderful!" whingeing and ironically, the place her particular tactics play worst is right here where she got the big break that made her even worth a "special".
Everything she does persuades me that underneath it all she is looking back toward America for her future.

Morton is a bottom feeder. Clever boy, though, he manages to suggest how controlling and dominant she is in the relationship, without coming out and saying so. And by mentioning all the people who are "undecided" about Meghan, Morton acknowledges that many people really don't like her. The add-on about minds changing toward Meghan because she's "making Harry happy" is specious bullshit and he knows it. No one gives fuck all whether Harry is happy or not.

I suspect that any secrecy surrounding the birth had to do with MM wanting to downplay that she didn't have a "doing it my way, new-agey" home birth but rather a dull normal birth in a swanky hospital, which, per the DM, "offers new parents a 'celebration meal' complete with champagne, lobster and foie gras."

To answer the birth certificate queries: the informant i.e. Harry, signs the register page which the registrar retains to place into the Register of Births. This 'original' stays within registration services and is never issued. The birth certificates, known as 'extracts of birth' which are then available for parents and indeed for anyone to purchase are only hand signed by the registrar who prints the copy being produced on request. This will not necessarily be the same registrar who first registered the birth. Most registrations are now electronic hence few handwritten 'extracts' are seen.

I'm American but I don't get the love for the royal family, which is mostly women. Some go on about how if the BRF are rich any smart woman would demand they pay out for the best. It is part of that weird thing now where lots of woman demand to be treated like a princess or a queen. I say this as a female eldergay who is so happy that princess shit wasn't pushed on us as small girls like it has been for the past 15 years or so. At any rate, one way to shut these women down is to remind them they wouldn't think it was that great if the royal family was American and we were paying for them. I have always felt Americans could afford to be so taken with the BRF because we are not paying for them. If they were ours and Meghan had that shower there would be hell to pay, especially from minorities who struggle to get good prenatal health care.

R186 - Whatever floats your boat - except that publicly, there is still a reflexive unconscious diminishment of a man who allows it and can't hide it. Especially when he's the one who's conferred the massive social and economic benefits on the lady and made her a princess. It shows contempt on her part (which isn't a good optic) and weakness on his (also a bad optic for a Prince of the Blood).
William might be pussy-whipped at home but he doesn't come off that way in public and neither does Kate. That's what the Cambridges have done so successfully that the Sussexes can't. Even when Kate is dressed to the nines, as at the BAFTAS, she never steals William's thunder or space in the light. Meghan ALWAYS outshines Harry in public.
When JFK visited Paris with his wife in tow, he joked at a breakfast that he was going to be known as "the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris" because of the frenzied reception she got. "No one cares what Lyndon and I wear," he added playfully.
But the difference was that no one would ever have mistaken who the really powerful partner was there, so JFK was on safe ground making the jokes.
Harry and Meghan haven't achieved this - yet he's the real royal and she's the arriviste. It's just . . . not a good look.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | May 17, 2019 5:33 PM |
R192 - It's all about the optics. Perception is everything.
That moron George Hamilton once said, "The one thing a woman will never forgive you for is being weak." It's a bit OTT and of course in today's world it gets pooh-poohed as so last century (or maybe the century before that) but there is still an underlying clinging to those archetypes. Harry was the one conferring the dream on Meghan - he's a future King's son and another King's brother and a Queen's grandson. The suspicion that his wife walks all over not only him, but his regal family, doesn't do anything for his public image or that of his family - both of which the woman has already damaged. And it's probably one reason why William hates her guts: in addition to her PR games, she's made a fool of his kid brother. I'm an older sibling - I somehow understand the feeling.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | May 17, 2019 5:39 PM |
R197 The whole idea of "real royal" is archaic in my book, but that aside, I see your point about the holder of the title vs the plus one (be they male or female). I have no problem with that in principle. I'm bristling at the use of the term pussy whipped in general and here in particular. The idea that a man who enjoys being with a strong woman is less of a man plays into the idea that women should always hide their strength and that non-dominant men should feel shame.
Meghan seems to enjoy attention and I'm all for making fun of that, but using pussy whipped as an insult just doesn't seem to fit DL. I could be wrong though, so there's that.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | May 17, 2019 5:45 PM |
R195 Not true. Birth certificates are signed by the parent & the registrar & the parent receives a copy there & then. Not a typed copy later on. How are most registrations 'electronic'? A birth has to be registered in person at the registry office.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | May 17, 2019 5:47 PM |
Agree with you completely R199, except for the fact that it totally characteristic of DL to use the phrase 'pussy whipped'. A lot of posters seem to have very archaic views on what a man and a woman ought to be, and there is also a particularly misogynistic strain from a good few posters. That phrase speaks to, if anything, a very DL POV.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | May 17, 2019 5:53 PM |
Some are here don't realize that there's a difference between STRENGTH (a strong woman) and DOMINANCE (a woman who RULES over the husband until his personality disappears and he becomes subservient/weak and/or takes on her lifestyle/hobbies/her contempt for his family/friends). It works both ways and neither is attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | May 17, 2019 5:57 PM |
R199 - In real terms, the whole idea of "royal" always was what the socialists like to call a "reified" concept: it has no basis in anything concrete, it only has the meaning people ascribe to it. So we're not in disagreement on that score. It's not only archaic now, it never had any objective reality, only a subjective one.
There's nothing wrong with a man who enjoys being married to a strong woman: as long as he looks equally strong or stronger than. No man in the social world we live in is going to get credit for being dominated by a woman, let alone a woman who seems incapable of hiding it.
The thing about the royals is that they're like the old three-legged stool: they have a foot in the past, a foot in the present, and a foot in the future. They're playing with competing ideas and constraints and narratives that they somehow have to mix properly to keep going. For the chemist down the street to be controlled by a domineering wife is perfectly find. But for Prince Harry to fade into the background every time he's out with his wife, to go merrily along with all her ideas about PR and branding and flipping the bird to his royal family . . . . not going to work, no matter how we try logically to say, "Hey, whatever gets Harry through the night!"
It may not be fair, but it's still the way it is.

by Anonymous | reply 204 | May 17, 2019 6:01 PM |
I agree with that R202, no partner should dominate the other in that way and it is upsetting to see when it happens. My issue is with the phrase 'pussy-whipped' which is often used about strength rather than dominance (ie. being non-passive). What you're describing is a gender-neutral situation, that it's bad for either party to dominate like that but 'pussy-whipped' has very gendered connotations for how a woman ought to be.

by Anonymous | reply 209 | May 17, 2019 6:18 PM |
From everything I've heard so far, "camp" is an understatement of what the Gayle King special promises.
What Meghan and her PR seem unable to understand is the concept of "negative suggestion through positive pressure". When a tearful makeup artist goes on TV to weepingly telling you that the C-list actress whom the Queen has had to take down for attitude has never thrown a diva fit, you automatically picture the actress doing just that.
Her PR just do not get this. If it reeks of damage control, one reflexively pictures what the damage was. PR efforts like this backfire because they scream, "Look over here, not over there!"
So I'm sure that from that point of view, the special will be, er, edifying.
Remember when Diana in one of her post divorce interviews said she'd never courted the press?
You could hear the laughter from outer space.

A little bit of me thinks that maybe the Queen is showing a sign of unity, during the stressful times of late, by attending the wedding R214. Also, don't forget the horrific treatment Princess Michael got as a result of Markle's PR over the bloody brooch. She owes her one!
by Anonymous | reply 215 | May 17, 2019 6:33 PM |
R214 - Not so far as anyone knows, and she actively dislikes Pss. Michael, the bride's mother. But Prince Michael of Kent is the Queen's first cousin and I believe she is quite fond of Pss. Alexandra, his sister, so I think this is a question of keeping the side up.

I'm curious as to how Sara Latham herself views her allegiances and loyalty and to whom she thinks she ultimately answers -- Meghan or the Queen's press secretary at BP who is officially her boss. Maybe Latham has put the kibosh on some of Markle's worst or most hare-brained schemes before they can see the light of day.

by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 17, 2019 6:42 PM |
I hate armchair analysis of celebrities as a rule but one thing is obvious as day to me in this case. Harry's (subconscious) motivations in marrying an attention whoring actress whose arrival might just hasten the abolishment of the monarchy given the soul crushing instability of Brexit- is a big fuck you to his brother. It's a lifetime's worth of resentment at being overlooked in favour of William and the way the Firm has treated him- as less than, an afterthought, literally the spare. It's a case of 'if I aint getting a piece, I'm going to make sure I burn the whole thing down to the ground for you and Georgie'. Really sad. These boys are destined to repeat the toxicity they inherited from Charlie, Andy and of course, Diana.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | May 17, 2019 6:45 PM |
R220 - I think there's something in your post, although I don't agree with all of it. The public adored Harry and his parents I suspect gave each boy equal amounts of affection and bad parenting according to each one's mental issues. As for "getting a piece" - if that's how he feels, no sympathy here given that he's living a life that 99.9% of the planet would love to try on. But the hierarchy is the hierarchy - but it's the same one that gives him precedence over his Uncle Andrew and his cousin Eugenie, who had to postpone her wedding by six months when he announced his.
I think his sense of being less than is more recent - watching William get married, watching William have the next Heir, watching William get pulled into the Duchy of Cornwall management meetings, realising now how much richer William is going to be, where the money is going, that his kids are going to be less thans, also. I don't think this was a product of childhood, but of recent adulthood. I think William's marriage and family-building hit home for Harry but not necessarily in a good way.
I do agree that Harry has weaponised his choice of a wife but I'm not sure how aware of it he was at that time - and in fairness, he possibly couldn't have foreseen how the very things that appealed to him about her, the narcissism (just like Mama!), the willingness to take on the limelight, her promising him that with her help they would make themselves as important as William and Kate . . . would go down so badly in the UK.
And then he had to double down on his choice or look like a fool.
I maintain, and said in much earlier threads, that Harry doesn't really like the work, he never has. He should have stayed a career soldier, it suited him. He's kind of lost and needs structure and anchoring, and maybe he saw Meghan as someone whose, er, "definiteness" would give him that, and perhaps she has. But neither of them are really cut out for the job, and Harry should have used Meghan as his escape route before, not after. I just don't think he had the balls to give up the perks to strike out on his own with her. Instead, he's trying to strike out on his own inside a framework in which that's just not possible. He missed his chance - he should have resigned his place in the succession upon deciding to marry her, and headed west to America with her.
Of course, it's anyone's guess whether she would have married him under those circumstances.
They aren't necessarily mismatched as a couple, the way his parents were. But as a couple, they are definitely mismatched with the BRF, and one of the casualties of that has been Harry's relationship with his brother.

Interesting point about trying to strike out within the institution R22. The unwillingness to give up the perks reminds me of Princess Margaret who seemed to always feel a bit placeless but would not give up the title of HRH or the perks in order to go and marry Peter Townsend. Granted, it would have meant living in another country away from her family but also I think she couldn't imagine not being 'Princess Margaret' and all that that entailed.
Being the sibling of the heir or future heir is a bit of an odd role, all the 'royalty' but not much in the way of an actual purpose in life.

That clip was cringe-making, it's like they are trying to mythologise her the way they did to Diana but for Diana it happened after she had been married for years, divorced, and then (crucially) died. She only became 'the people's princess' when she was dead - Meghan may be forgetting that fact.
Having a weeping attendant talk about her strength and poise seems a bit weird only a year after the wedding and while she is still very much with us.

[quote]Granted, it would have meant living in another country away from her family
She wasn't threatened with exile. She simply would have lived the life of a country wife of landed gentry without the perks of the HRH. I don't know if her stipend would have been cut. Her per annum was heavily criticized during her Llewelyn years after she and Snowdon had separated and she spent a good part of her time in Mustique or at her friends country estates with him.

Re: Princess of the United Kingdom - that's a fudge on Harry's part, as she is still a US citizen and so that title is only a courtesy; in addition, I believe there is a clause in the Constitution that forbids US citizens from accepting titles from foreign states. Perhaps her having filed for UK citizenship mitigates that. But just the same, that title is only used out of courtesy. It isn't here absolutely until she signs those citizenship papers and takes the oath.
I note that in Denmark, Prince Joachim seems to have made a very good thing of being the spare - very involved in his estates and perfectly happy with his second wife who have what it is that Harry and Meghan should be treasuring but seem unable to keep from meddling with: the money, the status, the lovely life, a bit of public life but nearly as much as Mary and Frederik are expected to do, and mostly flying sub rosa and heartily enjoying their nice lives without craving MORE MORE MORE!

Possibly not R229, I believe him when he said that no-one in the family really wants the job of head of state (which was probably something he shouldn't have said to the media to be honest), but I've also heard it said that he resented the special attention William got when they were growing up from staff who treated him as the heir (not sure how much this happened but one instance was mentioned). I think he has, as you said, gotten away with murder, but in general people do need a sense of purpose or at least an identity that makes you feel like you have done or achieved something.
I just feel like it's a bit of an odd thing to be a spare - a position without an obvious role attached to it. They created something in business and diplomacy for Andrew to do, which was clearly a bit of a made up job. Not that I actually have sympathy mind you, they're both pretty scummy people (Andrew and, to a lesser extent, Harry).

I don't know, R222. I think it's just as plausible that dim Harry was living it up, but feeling it was the time to settle down like his brother and presumably other friends, then along came Meghan, who knew how to seal the deal: playing up her humanitarianism, her independence, her wordliness but also building him up, making him feel important (you do so much good!), special (I don't care that you're a prince as long as you're kind!), protective (I never had a family of my own!), etc.

R242 - It's probably a mixture of most of the things mentioned by most posters here.
The thing is, in these highly public iterations of a deeply private matter, the trick is to see that the thing in the end is greater than the sum of its parts. That is to say, e.g., that William + Kate = a positive for the institution, the public iteration, even if individually neither is perfect and privately they hit a few bumps, as every marriage does. But Harry + Meghan hasn't so far ='d a positive for the institution and the public iteration, and I don't see how that cannot, in the end, impact the private iteration.

This was in the tabs a lot and I think Harry eventually said he didnt as PR and to cover his hurt feelings. I believe he thinks he would be a better, charismatic king and that is what bonded him to Meghan, as well as the celebrity of it all. This whole mental health project PR stuff enrages me. They, incredibly rich royals funded by the tax-payer, are advocating for greater awareness of mental health while NHS provision of any kind of support for mental health issues (acute or chronic) is massively underfunded.
Rather than opening a helpline staffed by volunteers that encourages people to 'reach out' we should defund their luxury lifestyles and use the money to pay more professionals to treat people who clearly need the help, have even asked for the help, and aren't getting it.

Yes R254 but what people who are suffering need is better funding for NHS treatment for mental health which is atrocious at the moment. I resent these people living on tax-payers money, who could see a top therapist at the snap of their fingers, 'raising awareness' and opening a charity staffed by volunteers (volunteers can do a great job for charities but in support of, not instead of, properly trained professionals), while austerity has cut proper support and treatment to the bone, as it has in all areas of social support.

Charles would care about never getting to be king, but I don't think William would. The Windsors would still keep a buttload of cash and property. He'd be fine, and free.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | May 17, 2019 10:39 PM |
Yes that's my point R256, when I said 'defund' I meant either to get rid of them or massively cut back on our subsidizing of their lifestyle.
Either way, in a country why there is a massive gulf between rich and poor, helped along by the current government, with poverty as one of the big stressors that can lead to poor mental health (treatment of which is terribly underfunded), having them swan about in very expensive clothing, with an army of assistants, in support of a volunteer helpline (worthy though that may be) is essentially a fig leaf and a distraction from the real problems.
It's great to get people to reach out if they need help but when you have to wait months and months if not longer to see anyone at all trained in mental health (even just a standard consellour for a few sessions, let alone a psychiatrist), then the whole thing feels a little ironic.
I can definitely see the value in having a non-elected head of state with no political power, but I think we in Britain need to rethink how we do that, if we are going to keep the monarchy as an institution.
by Anonymous | reply 270 | May 17, 2019 10:44 PM |
Yes, r270, sorry, I posted my response without fully reading your previous post. We are totally in agreement. I actually think a non-elected head of state who acted as an ombudsman of sorts (think Dalai Lama!) is far more preferable to the entitled snobs that are there now. Someone who acted as an ethical compass of sorts. It would be a very difficult to craft a position like this, but it’s worth looking into.
R264, this is a thread about the BRF—where the hell else would we post?

How much value for money do the Royals give? How much worse would people's day to day lives be without them?
Not worse at all, really. Perhaps even better. And I think that will be clearer once HM, a literal living institution is gone, and we're all faced with the reality of King Charles III.

Feeling bad for Pa Markle, perhaps?
by Anonymous | reply 275 | May 17, 2019 11:40 PM |
I remember reading a story in more than one place years ago about the two boys when they were children. They were spending the afternoon with HM, their grandmother. When tea time rolled around, the service was rolled in and tea and whatever was offered to HM and William. Nothing was offered to Harry. When Diana heard about it, she was livid. She requested an audience with HM and told her bluntly that she was never to show such favoritism between her two sons again. She might be Queen but her boys had been visiting their grandmother. There were no further such incidents.
I don't know whether it's true but it is a story went around back in the day.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | May 17, 2019 11:46 PM |
That sort of treatment is probably what sent off Harry down this path. No matter what his mother thought, he wasn't William's equal.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | May 17, 2019 11:47 PM |
I really don’t think Harry wants to “dethrone” William. I do think he wants to make his own mark, not be another Andrew.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | May 18, 2019 12:03 AM |
But that's the problem R277, the idea that birth order makes one person better or more important than another is an expression of the idea that the family you are born into makes you more or less worthy. The monarchy is an outdated anachronism but I don't really know what we in Britain can put in its place, and I do believe that we need something - ie. a head of state who is not political and is part of an historical institution. It is definitely something that we need to have a national conversation about.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | May 18, 2019 12:25 AM |
R276, I read a similar story here, except that it was the Queen Mother who pissed off Diana. According to the story, when the small boys would visit, the QM would make a huge fuss over William and completely ignore Harry. It doesn't necessarily have to do with his rank; maybe it was his personality. Still, Diana didn't like the obvious display of favoritism.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | May 18, 2019 12:47 AM |
William will never have privacy. Even if the RF ended, all of those people feel like they know him because they watched him grow up. They will always want to know about what he's up to.
But he probably would like to live in his mansions without having to bother with all the charity events? Charles seems to like those things, because he seems like he really wants to make a difference. William just seems like he's going through the motions sometimes.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | May 18, 2019 12:48 AM |
I heard a similar story but in this version they were having a meeting with the queen and the staff only brought tea for two and excluded Harry - the implication seemed to be that it was the staff who made the decision rather than the queen/whoever they were with. Either way, it sounds like something happened to exclude Harry from refreshments and he found it hurtful.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | May 18, 2019 12:53 AM |
R281-I know what you mean. For years William seemed bored and borderline disdainful when carrying out his duties, but that has seemed to change recently. Maybe that's the good thing about Markle. She was a wake-up call that what he's taken for granted his entire life as his peculiar birthright might not actually pan out.

Take another look at the picture posted by R274.
Most of the family members are not looking at the bride and groom. Can't see the Queen, but while Philip and Edward appear to be, most of the rest are either looking straight ahead (Sophie and Anne) or looking back down the aisle (James, Louise, Peter, Autumn, Eugenie, Beatrice, Andrew and Kate).
My guess, they are enjoying the group of bridesmaids and pages, particularly George and Charlotte while ignoring the bride and groom.

About Kate being bullied... I went to an all-girls boarding school. It was surprising to see who had a hard time and who didn’t. There were fat girls and ugly girls and poor girls who did t get picked on. And there were pretty, thin, rich girls who did.
My conclusion: teenage girls smell weakness and insecurity. They’re like sharks who can smell blood in the water. There was one gal who was fat and ugly and not wealthy. But she was confident and funny, and nobody would think to pick on her. And then there would be some tall thin blonde girl who was obviously self-conscious about her nose of big feet, and she’d get shit about it. There was also a FLAMING gay dude at one of the boys schools and he’d get out on the dance floor at dances and all the girls adored him. I asked one of the guys if anyone bullied him. The guy said “Nah, he’s just Rocky being Rocky. He’s all right.” But he was so comfortable with himself that he was sort of bulletproof.
I’d guess that Kate had some nervousness or insecurity and those sharky bitches sniffed it out.

I see where the PR spin is heading now and so predictable for a narcissist. I think MM knows that she can't win over the British people so instead of going quietly there is an insidious message, the BRF is over and there is no need for a monarchy after the Queen dies. If MM can't have what she wants, ie fame, jewels, tiaras, being a Princess, no one can. She will try and take them down as she leaves, I really hope the BRF does something soon before this rot sets in.

In their egomania, they believe they and their social media posts are far more significant than they actually are. Nobody in a professional capacity gives a fuck about what some anonymous posters on a gay message board are talking about

R311 She got nothing she wanted. She isn't officially called a Princess and she never will, only Kate will when she become Princess of Wales. She never became the next Diana as she thought she would. She lives in ex servants quarters under the flight path of one of the busiest airports in the world. She didn't get the tiara she wanted. She got the aquamarine ring for loan but that was taken back. She got the shittiest pair of butterfly earrings and a plain bracelet belonging to Diana. She hasn't got any of the glorious collection of jewels. Yes her kid is 7th in line, which means nothing in the long run, if the Cambridge kids say have a minimum of 2 kids each, that shoves him back to minimum 13th. Kate may have another kid too. She didn't get her own court like she thought. All she has is the dislike of a nation, an instagram with an abundance of fake/bot followers/nutters/basic bitches and a bunch of fake celebrities who have had their day in the limelight.

From Skippy is A Moron's Blog
Hey Skippy, so how does this play out? Is it something like HM or the powers that be approach DINO with a “Hey, we noticed there are no physicians who signed off on the baby’s birth, and the birth certificate doesn’t have the required appropriate signatures, so we’re gonna have to do a DNA test due to protocol. You okay with that?” I’m just trying to figure out the reason given to run a DNA test & the conversations that happen around that. Such an awkward thing!!
There will be a DNA test because she didn’t produce anything with a royal physician signature signing off…it’s the law…that simple!

Windsor is 33 miles away from Heathrow so the planes are hardly flying low over her back garden. Kensington is only three miles away from City Airport so that must get pretty noisy too, plus it has no real grounds and they all live on top of each other.
Frogmore Cottage has had a 3m reburbishment and it a beautiful listed building. Kensington Palace STILL has servants' quarters, plus ugly low modern ceilings and the sound of traffic 24/7.

Princess of the United Kingdom is her occupation not her title. She shares her husbands' "prince" statuses through marriage. She is styled as the Duchess of Sussex. Same for Kate until she becomes Princess of Wales.
I guess MM can carry Archie's birth certificate with her at all times and when someone calls her a Duchess she can whip it out and wave it around and yell I'm really a Princess of the United Kingdom. I guess we can all do this, instead of using my name I should bring my kids birth certs with me and yell my occupation to them.

They may be paid as part of a PR social media team. If Quaker Oats has shills, it is preposterous for posters on here to claim that Sunshine Sachs does not.
They are trying to quiet some voices, create a bandwagon effect re: some messaging and push emotional buttons in an attempt to sway. Using names for types of posts -- Skippys, etc is another attempt to quash posts that do not square with the messaging.
One, the Harry Styles/spazz troll has been on here for years and he also posts extensively on these threads. The volume of his posts and certain clues suggest he is not a civilian poster. His endless tries to make the word Larries a slur in 2019 is as sad as the hairline of either Harry. Both, sadly, were far hotter in the mid-2000s the era of Larry chat (likely more orchestrated PR, on every side). Block a ranter and look at the post volume, it reflects more of a full shift than casual posting.
The Gayle King piece sounds quite funny, they really used a script to try to sell her merching stats? THAT is what the focus was right before she gave birth? Ha. It has been clear to anyone watching that she has had this agenda since long before a ring was put on it. She really cannot hide it at all. Is that blatant pitching to US potential revenue sources a sign she plans to bail sooner? I really do think she is trying to be a burr under the saddle so they will pay her handsomely to depart. Although William is not believed to have sought professional help like his brother, he has talked previously about speaking to colleagues, family and friends.
That’s the thing with mental health – we can all relate to it. We see it day-to-day around us... let’s talk about it. It would make a big difference,’ he says.
During the documentary, the guests – including football stars Thierry Henry, Danny Rose and Jermaine Jenas – make some ‘extraordinary revelations’ on everything from body image and depression, to the impact of career-ending injury.
It was filmed earlier this month at Cambridge United Football Club, which has pioneered several major mental health initiatives.
The prince says: ‘There needs to be a turning point where we can pass the message on to men everywhere that it’s ok to talk about mental health. We have to normalise the whole conversation.’
Prince William runs mental health campaign Heads Together with his wife Kate and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Is there anything the HazBeans could do now to turn around the tide of public dislike? The PR attempts are preposterously bad and seem to make matters worse, eg the People article, the weeping makeup artist friend.
Sophie Wessex recovered, by years of hard graft and keeping her head down. But her faux pas was before the internet, plus she's British.

Well, R356, whatever they seem to do is having the opposite effect of what they must surely want - the good real estate, jewellery, titles. All I can think is they are trying to make themselves so obnoxious the BRF will give them a massive golden parachute to leave.
What I am asking is, is it too late for the HazBeans to turn it around?

As it should be! Harry and Meghan will always get top billing in the press, above William and Kate.

Gabriella looked perfect.

by Anonymous | reply 546 | May 18, 2019 2:21 PM |
Wow, the coverage in the DM is most satisfying. What a fashion parade. My thoughts:
-The bride is exquisite. The gown is beautiful and tasteful, with lovely artful details. A+. (And I'm so thankful the long trend of boob-baring strapless bridal gowns seems to be over.)
-The Middleton family was well turned out. Pippa's dress was great, and James' girl had a successful artsy dress
- Princess Mike- oh dear. Disappointing.
- Lady Melons looked unusually dowdy
-Fergie was Fergie. I'm glad she was invited.
- Edo! I think his attendance is significance. Now that is one Royal Wedding I await with great anticipation!
- Sophie Winkleman, took me a bit to understand why she had such prominent placement. She looked good.
- Thank the lord Meghan wasn't there (wise decision all around), though her absence and Harry's presence did dominate the headlines. As usual, Harry looked much more relaxed without her.
- The flowers at the church were just stunning, much better than the Harkle wedding. There is a photo of a woman in an intense blue-purple floral dress, straightening the bride's gown on the steps. She's unidentified, but I love the dress.
-

by Anonymous | reply 572 | May 18, 2019 2:43 PM |
Hey, where is Eugenie?
More thoughts:
-Lady Amelia Windsor's pink confection is iffy, but I think I like it
-At R456 is the electric blue-purple spring fantasy dress and hat I mentioned. It's a trip! Would like to see it from another angle.
- Anne's outfit is nice, just a little hard-edged.
- Seeing Meghan's wedding photos reminds me how irritated I was by the ill-fitting gown, the underwhelming flowers, and most of all the messy hair. I do understand, though, that she was making a statement of sorts: I'm a Princess, bitches, but I'm also LA Casual.
-Don't get the hate for Pippa's dress, the color and details are lovely and she wears it well. I do get the Wallis comparisons, though.

Bride looks fantastic - completely agree with the poster upthread that Gabriellla's dress shows just how bad Meghan's dress was. Fitted beautiful, feminine but not fussy, veil perfect length, hair perfect. Everything is just perfect.
Very disappointing show from Pss. Michael - Mrs Middleton and the Queen look better.
But frock horror again from poor Beatrice. Words fail me.
As usual, varied members of the aristocracy show how detached they are from reality - oh, let's say, fabled English eccentricity.
I have to say, I liked Pippa's ensemble, although I didn't like the pieces separately. But the overall look worked and marriage and motherhood have softened her appealingly.
