That was in reference to R600 and R601. They were sweet enough to share with us what was said about Kate.

Really those sugars all forgot what she was flashing on the Australian Tour and with that womans meeting when she flashed her cooty don’t they . At least Kate has great legs unlike their idol with her chicken legs
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 15, 2019 10:57 AM |
Someone somewhere suggested that, far from being "taken" from Prince George, the name "Archie" is simply the closest his egotistical parents could get to an anagram of his mother's actual Christian name: "Rachel."
Makes sense, considering his middle name's reference to his father: "Harry's son."
Can't you just hear them? "We need to be different, modern. Enough with these stuffy names like 'Arthur.' How about we give him or her a variation of both our names?! Let's think. If it's a boy,...."
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 15, 2019 10:58 AM |
Kate doesn't look like an expert on STD's.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 15, 2019 10:58 AM |
I think those sugars are mad because William and Kate are more popular than M .
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 15, 2019 10:59 AM |
Maybe someone on this thread can help! I was reading up on the Duchy of Cornwall and how the inheritance laws didn’t change in 2013 for female children to inherit. So who will look after the Duchy (and the Waitrose products etc!) if there are no male children to a future monarch? Who looked after the Duchy when HM was heir?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 15, 2019 10:59 AM |
R9, the Duke of Edinburgh.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 15, 2019 11:02 AM |
And much, much better looking, R8. You know they wouldn't be having meltdowns if Kate was short and dumpy and Wills had a beard that looked as though it smelled of cooter (like handbag's facial mess.)

Sonning-on-Thames, Berkshire.

From R18: “"It's extremely unfair to lay all the blame for their PR issues at Meghan's feet," says the source.
"Yes, some people think she is entitled, and you need a degree in gobbledygook to understand some of her public statements. But a lot of the misunderstandings stem from Harry being overprotective."
So... Harry’s an entitled cunt, too?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 15, 2019 11:49 AM |
Haven't the Clooneys also got a bolthole in the Cotswolds, too? Hmmmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 15, 2019 11:50 AM |
So do we give ANY credence to the story that Meghan ran off to the Clooneys? She must have come back.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 15, 2019 11:59 AM |
I’m sorry to be so dim, but that Shout event a few days ago... Was that Meghan’s first public appearance since the red carpet unveiling of Archie? Wasn’t that like two days after? Her face looked back to normal in the Shout photos.
And if she’s making public appearances again, when will we see her next?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 15, 2019 12:07 PM |
It was a nap that Markle would dominate the press again yesterday, with Kate having an engagement. She's so transparent. So much for her mummy duties.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 15, 2019 12:08 PM |
R27, I think she was furious she wasn't more involved, those were old pictures she released of herself. Maybe because the two Princes and Kate were getting all the attention for it.

I don’t think we will see her ever in Frog Cottage .That place is beneath her or so she thinks . She will use the baby for not coming to Frog Cottage . Amal will have to stay in LA for a while .
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 15, 2019 12:16 PM |
It's a CT that Meg is with Amal, fabricated by Skippies who also think Amal had a surrogate.

by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 15, 2019 12:20 PM |
Not so far fetched I think . If Amal or George are granted to be a godmother or godfather they will give her the use of their House either in the Cotswolds or in Berkshire . Theynwanthey a royal connection these two soo bad .

R32, why would she think the10 bed listed mansion that is Toad Hall beneath her, and not the two bed Notts Cottage ?
Windsor is a royal town, 870 people, very exclusive, and her surname is now Windsor. The Americans here are acting as if it's a slum instead of a grand Grade 2 listed building.

R 476's pic from the previous thread reminded me of the story behind that pic at the Cannes FF. Allegedly, this was when Charles told Diana at the moment they were getting out of the car "By the way, I received word earlier that your Barry Maneke was killed in a motorcycle accident." Diana and Barry Maneke had been doing the horizontal hokey-pokey. Allegedly.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 15, 2019 12:40 PM |
Charles is such a child.

R46 is the bossy 70 yr old OAP who calls everyone a cunt and is in love with super fug William and frumpy Kate. She spins a fantasy in which Meg hates the mansion in the country which she requested for and would rather be living near the Stepfords in KP.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 15, 2019 12:47 PM |
Meg now has an apartment at BP as well as the Windsor mansion, so she is delighted.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 15, 2019 12:49 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 15, 2019 12:50 PM |
William is beyond ugly. Fat, horse teeth, permanently crimson face. Just repellent and he won't be king until he's 60.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 15, 2019 12:50 PM |
R53, it has 10 bedrooms. Have you seen the aerials? It's massive.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 15, 2019 12:51 PM |
R48-if that's true, Jesus, what a mind fuck. She certainly drained every last bit of attention from him once exiting the car, though.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 15, 2019 12:53 PM |
R55, there is a house at the top of my drive, with ten bedrooms, god knows how many bathrooms. IIt has so many bedrooms as it's been turned into flats/apartments. On the grand scale of it those ten bedrooms are small. As is Frogmore Cottage. Also a conversion into flats/apartments. Knock all that out, and well, there won't be ten bedrooms anymore, just a few good sized ones.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 15, 2019 12:57 PM |

R9 the Duchy of Cornwall has a board that manages it directly. I can’t recall whether the income was turned over to HM’s dad during his reign or to the government, but I do recall that she didn’t get the income herself.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 15, 2019 1:02 PM |
It stands in 3 acres and looks mansion sized from above, although of course dwarfed by Frogmore House.
Odd that the Kate troll thinks MM has been made to move there against her will when she really wanted to be in KP next door to Killiam.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 15, 2019 1:20 PM |
If you block r60, all the 30 or so pro-Meghan comments - every single one of them - disappear.....
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 15, 2019 1:29 PM |
I'm going to have to do that, R61. It's like having a vicious, diseased critter in the house that you can't catch.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 15, 2019 1:32 PM |
Is Frogmoor 10 rooms, or 10 bedrooms? Reports are conflicting. I know in the US a house is listed by bedroom ( 3 bed/3 bath), while the rest of the world will call the same thing a "5 room" because living room, ect are added in the count.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 15, 2019 1:33 PM |
R61, you said you blocked me round about thread 44. Why are you still subjecting yourself to my positive comments? We know your Hitler mindset can only tolerate assent and you get oh-so-mad when you read an opinion different from your own.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 15, 2019 1:33 PM |
R63, ten bedrooms. It's huge, have you seen the aerial? The pic shared here just shows a tiny part of it. Definitely bigger than Killiam's apartment in KP.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 15, 2019 1:34 PM |
It's not that the opinion is different, R64. It's the way the opinion is presented...the wording is that of a young child spluttering with anger. Most of us here can tolerate differing opinions, provided there's intelligence behind the opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 15, 2019 1:36 PM |

I'm not sputtering with anger. Here's an example of you doing just that, though:
Take your vile stupidity and shove it up your stinking ass.

The vehement loathing the Kate Troll has for a stranger she's never met is so bizarre. Perhaps a biracial woman broke up her marriage? There has to be some reason for all the unwarranted venom and emotion.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 15, 2019 1:45 PM |
That's because everyone is sick to death of you, R69, and at this point tolerance and patience are long gone. How funny that you watch those of us who despise you. You must get off on being the laughing stock of, well, everything. And you do sputter with anger, and now you've made me sputter with anger!
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 15, 2019 1:46 PM |
Has anyone seen the Charles at 70 programme? He himself was talking to the Queen about the cottage, and revealed it had had a few interior adjustments. He described it almost as a lick of paint. Nothing more. I'm going to find the video. The Queen herself is talking to him saying " so small". It's so small", or words similar.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 15, 2019 1:48 PM |
R36, this American has repeatedly stated that I’d be thrilled to bits to live in a renovated historic building on a royal estate.
It’s Meghan who thinks it’s beneath her.

by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 15, 2019 1:49 PM |
Frogmore isn't nearly as grand as the Clooney compound. I'm sure Meghan feels cheated and humiliated by the modest offering.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 15, 2019 1:50 PM |
R71, I'm not the one lapsing into fits of expletives like an 8 yr old boy who's just learnt to swear - you are. Stop taking it all so personally and simply block me, as you keep saying you will.
I'm going nowhere so if you can't cope with me, you know what to do, Skippy.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 15, 2019 1:51 PM |
R65-maybe it's larger than Kate and William's apartment at KP - but is it larger than Amner Hall? At the end of the day, Kate and William got the good real estate. And they'll get better once William become POW. Someone in a previous thread said it best: the BRF uses titles, jewelry and real estate to demonstrate hierarchy and approval. Kate: Duchess of Cambridge, future Princess of Wales, Dame Grand Cross; gets the good jewels; 21-room apartment at KP AND Amner Hall. Meghan is not up to that level. Frog Cott is not better than what William and Kate have, no matter how you try to spin it.

Yes, r77.
Although Meghan’s got Master Archie on the Royal website, as a Royal, directly under The Queen (above the DoE). None of his cousins are listed on the website - we can’t search Princess Charlotte’s engagements - so there’s something.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 15, 2019 1:57 PM |
Sorry, the idea of Harry getting a grand 21-room apartment is utterly ridiculous. For WHAT?
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 15, 2019 1:57 PM |
To return briefly (and late to the party) to the Kensington Palace v. Buck House discussion, the original poster should know some other interesting tidbits about KP: it is not only the Cambridge's home whilst in London, it is now their home base. Their home base initially was Anmer Hall, their grand Georgian country home on the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk. They preferred the country, and at that time, before Philip retired and Charles turned 70 and their first two children were still babies, Anmer Hall (which the Queen renovated to the tune of 1.5 million pounds (sterling) was their base, and the huge flat in KP their "when in London".
The Cambridges at some point were "ordered" to reverse the positions of the two places and, as the Queen headed into her nineties and Charles headed for 70, to make the large digs in KP their home base, with Anmer Hall their country "retreat". The 21-room flat in KP was also renovated to the tune of over 4 million, but at KP is considered a historic public building, the taxpayer paid (the Queen owns Anmer Hall personally, that's why she stood the cost in that case).
Diana was based in KP as she hated Highgrove, Charles's country estate in Gloucestershire, so the two boys spent most of their young years at KP with her.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester currently occupy the grand 20-room flat in KP that Meghan, at least, fully expected to be living in. She imagined when she married in that she'd be living Kate Middleton's life, forgetting that Kate is a future Queen Consort and Meghan isn't, and that Kate has proved herself discreet, dutiful, and respectful of the institution.
Pss. Margaret also lived in a large flat in KP, either the one the Cambridgeds occupy now, or the other, adjacent one.
The Queen owns Sandringham in Norfolk and Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands. But Buck House and Windsor Castle and Frogmore House (where the lesser and rather dumpy Frogmore Cottag is located) and St. James Palace are part of the Crown Esatesalong with KP - they belong neither to the monarchy nor the government, and any revenues from them are returned to the government to be used in support of the monarchy.
It's a bit complicated but you get the drift.

Actually, I believe FrogCott has five bedrooms, not ten, and Anmer Hall most definitely has ten. It's also a far grander place than the FrogCott and in much better shape. And Norfolk really is the country, Windsor, despite the cachet of the nearby iconic castle, is basically a boring if pretty suburb a half hour from London. That was the real point of the move: the Cambridges got the grand flat in London in a historic palace AND a grand country estate. The Sussexes were booted out of London with no base in the capital and no real country estate, either. The Cambridges have both. I really don't picture the savvy urban L.A. grifter being happy away from one of the world's most prestigious capitals with its buzz shops paps celebrity exposure glamour, etc., to find herself with a couple of rooms in BP for overnights.
The Cambridges have been far better housed, and I'm sure it wasn't lost on the Sussexes.

William was hot when he was young then rapidly became average but is starting look hot again as he approaches 40. I think he looked almost middle aged before his time but now he has caught up. He looks athletic plus he as the confidence of "I'm King bitches" . Unfortunately the reverse is happening to Harry, he was average, then hot, now as he gets older he is rapidly succumbing to the Mountbatten fugliness. William luckily has more Spencer genes unlike Harry who looks like the Duke of Edinburgh.

R98-you're right. For awhile W&K were looking old before their time, but there seems to be a sudden blossoming Renaissance. They're both looking beautiful lately. The first year of marriage, though, seems to have taken quite a toll on both Harry and Meghan. They both look awful. Meghan was attractive when she had the Suits people styling her and doing her hair and make-up. She can't manage on her own at all. She needs to hire those people.

I see there are a lot of stories in the press today about how badly Prince Charles treated Diana and how badly hurt Harry was. Is this a new PR push from MM and Sara Latham? I wonder has Charles fallen out of favour with MM or more likely he has finely woken up to her narcissistic ways. Maybe Charles finally snapped when his big charm offensive in Germany was pushed right out of the press by the Harkles plus her shameless use of Diana in her "feet reveal"

[quote] It added: “One of the delights, so far, about the Sussex Royal Instagram account is in how Meghan’s influence can be felt in the way the posts are constructed, framed, and captioned.”
[quote] That snap of Archie attracted 1.9million likes and 27,555 comments. The most recent picture of Kate got 142,470 likes and 552 comments.
From the Sun article at R114. Stoking that feud between the Kate stans and the Meghan maniacs. The feud between the Wales brothers isn't nearly as profitable as one between their wives (real or imagined).

R114 The Sun article is a PR spin from MM. The latest research poll in the UK that put Meghan's popularity at 39% must have really surprised the Harkles especially since she just had a baby. It doesn't matter how many people love them on Instagram, it's the British people that count and it looks like they can't stand her.

You can buy followers to "like" your Instagram posts. You cannot alter the polls unless you behave in a way in which the populace approves.
I am guessing, like r118, that MM is lashing out at Charles because he has made it clear that he is no longer in their corner. After the Rose rumors and the Investiture incident, HM has laid down the law. She probably told Charles to get in line and stop supporting the Harkle nonsense.

R126 - Agree with this and with the other posters suggesting the SUN story is spin from the Sussexes because Charles didn't back their desire for their own court, a grand home in London, a country estate, and isn't quite the patsy Meghan hoped she'd wound around her little finger. She didn't realise that his first loyalty is to the monarchy, for obvious reasons. It's also to offset the continuing negative press about her controlling pesona and desire for a brand and a platform of her own, and her lack of respect for the institution that gave her A-list celebrity.

R130 Agree plus Charles is very vain and hates being sidelined in the papers as he was on his recent visit to Germany. Look at how he dealt with Diana early on when she got all the attention, he couldn't stand it. The Harkles fully upstaged him, he won't forget that. I don't think he's visited the baby yet which gives us our answer. If the Harkles are out of favour this will get interesting, Clarence House courtiers are notoriously ruthless.

Queen Victoria had a heifer named after her daughter Alice after the princess gave birth.
The Queen did not approve of breastfeeding as she considered the gesture "disgusting and quite animalistic."
However, she was, by birth, a full-blooded Hanoverian so there was under the surface quite a strong, passionate, sexual nature and a bawdy side.

r81: good details. I believe though that the Gloucesters have already moved out of their larger KP digs, to smaller ones, and their large flat is being renovated already. It is supposedly going to be used by the Cambridges as received rooms and office space, thereby doubling the size of their current KP space (take THAT, Sparks - sorry couldn't resist). Princess Margaret lived in KP Apt. 1A, where the Cambridges currently live.

R138 I think MM is bullheaded enough to go after him with a typical narc impulsive reaction. Today with just a quick google of Prince Charles in the news, most of the articles are him and Diana related. How bad of a husband he was, how Harry yelled I hate you to his father etc. This is odd because it isn't 1996. Why suddenly are the press talking about his late wife and how bad of a person he is? Charles won't be happy and I think it's pretty obvious where this PR spin is coming from.

Charles has worked for the better part of two decades rehabbing his image. He was "irritated" when William and Harry commemorated the anniversary of the death of their mother (wasn't I their parent, too?). He'll have his own narc reaction to MM and his own son if this is coming from them - which they probably did. I think he will retaliate but the question is, what will he do?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | May 15, 2019 4:48 PM |
Agree with most posters on the assessment of Charles and PR: he's fairly thin-skinned and suspicious. He'll take this out on the Sussexes.
In addition, if memory serves, he and the Queen are splitting the cost of the Sussex's PR staff in BP, with the exception of Latham's salary of £140,000, which is being paid out of the Sovereign Grant (i.e., by the British taxpayer).
If Charles supposes Latham and the Sussex PR team are throwing him under the bus in order to serve the Sussex agenda, it won't be pretty.
Eventually, the BRF and the Sussexes will come to a bridge that once crossed, has to be burned. It's quite clear that Meghan Markle has been nothing but a source of trouble from the moment Harry proposed and the Queen gave her consent to the marriage, that she isn't going to stop being a source of trouble, and that the only way forward is to "persuade" the Sussexes to exit the BRF with lots of flowery language about "freedom to choose our own life" and removals of patronages in the UK, access to Sovereign Grant funds, and possibly the HRH's so Harry can at last have what he wants: a wealthy status-y private life with little to no responsibilities but a lingering aura of royalty.

Harry saying the newborn Archie is keeping them up is a bad sign. Most newborns are not fussy unless two things: feeding off of parents' nervousness/ routines or undiagnosed congenital illness. They mostly sleep and eat. My experience as a former NICU RN is that type-A moms who have determined that she's going to follow certain patterns of parenting have the fussiest newborn infants/ babies. They themselves are tired but their personalities won't let them give up on "alternative" ways of raising children. I've seen this with moms who refuse to let their babies have pacifiers even when the babies are screaming their brains out but are able to be soothed by pacifiers. Or moms who refuse to let their babies take bottles (even with breastmilk bottle-feeding) because they're convinced that their babies won't latch on properly and would get nipple confusion. Or the type of mom who get freaked out when her husband/ partner/ nanny deviates from her own pattern of swaddling the baby or changing the diaper, etc.... I've seen these crazy bitches up close as a NICU RN and the situation is not pretty, with stressed out dads and cranky infants to follow. Or they insist on co-sleeping as a couple with their newborn, even when the child is clearly not happy with being handled/ cuddled so frequently. The type-A new mom who is so far up her own ass and thinks she knows more than everyone else, those women were nightmares to deal with, their anxiety feeds off onto the babies who then become even more difficult to settle/ console, which then feeds into the dads becoming frustrated. It's a vicious cycle, and it's not hard for me to imagine that Meghan type-A controlling bitch that she is, would be exactly this sort of new mom and that Harry is the unlucky recipient of the results (along with poor Archie).

R149 - Newborns do wake to feed regularly throughout the night - that alone is enough to keep new parents tired. It's not unusual for new babies to take 3-6 months to start sleeping through the night. While appreciating your expertise, it's hardly news that new parents who aren't used to getting up routinely every few hours at night experience exhaustion.
So while other issues are possible, the nearly universal experience of new parenthood is exhaustion.

R149 - I think you're judging too quickly without actually being on the scene with parents and child:
"Newborns will wake up and want to be fed about every 3-4 hours at first. Do not let your newborn sleep longer than 5 hours at a time in the first 5-6 weeks. Thereafter, you can keep the following general milestones in mind: By 4 months, most babies begin to show some preferences for longer sleep at night."
Sleep Disorders in Children Information | Cleveland Clinic
That schedule is always a shock for first-time parents.

by Anonymous | reply 165 | May 15, 2019 5:14 PM |
The caption on the photograph says the photos were of Frogmore Cottage: they weren't, they were of the leased property in the Cotswolds, which, by the way, the couple gave up when they realised it was stupid to have a place in the burbs (Windsor) and a place in the country, instead of a place in London and a place outside it. Also, they were paying themselves for the lease in the Cotswolds, and they were also alleged to have to pay for the new furnishings and decorations at Frogmore Cottage (that is to say, Charles's money was) - only the structural renovations were allocated to the Sovereign Grant.
So Splash were correct in objecting to the part of the statement that said their photos were responsible for the Sussexes leaving the Cotswolds place.

I felt so sorry for her having sit on that plank of a choir seat in her heavily pregnant state longer than she needed to. She gave birth shortly a few weeks after the wedding and the baby was well over 9 lbs (I remember thinking the kid's going to be rugby-sized). The exchange between Camilla and Catherine cracked me up. Camilla made some remark to Catherine who visibly had to restrain herself from reacting while Camilla got to hide under her huge hat brim. Can you imagine Camilla's commentary on the Bishop?

In the spirit of softening the thread and returning to delicious bits like jewels, kilts. etc., what about interiors? What are the lush interiors from the various estates and palaces that make you swoon? What about things like opulent table settings, rare art and the like?
by Anonymous | reply 174 | May 15, 2019 5:58 PM |
R174 - Appreciate the thought! There are plenty of public photos of the table settings of state banquets given by the BRF. In fact, some of the documentaries released on the BRF in the last few years show quasi-comical segments of footmen in soft booties up on the tables arranging the flowers and candelabra, and others going about with rulers to ensure that each setting is exactly the same distance from another.
The plate of course is spectacular.
I am reminded of one of the things I most enjoyed about Corsese's "Age of Innocence": the gorgeous production values including overhead photos of antique dinnerware services and flowers and food arrangements.

Question: do the young royals give dinner parties or parties in general? Do they do entertaining in their homes? Are they allowed to?
My train of thought is, perhaps it would be good for the Harkles to turn their sow’s ear into a silk purse. If Frogmore is supposed to be a dreary banishment, they could turn it into a sort of fun place. If I were MM, I’d make the best of it and throw a weekly cocktail party and invite interesting people. I wouldn’t turn down an invitation to Frogmore!
Is that a crazy idea?

R161 and R164, I said newborn infants sleep and eat, what part are you contradicting? Newborns eat every 3 hours sometimes up to 4 hours as that seems to be the max they go without eating. I was making a point that in my experience with both healthy and ill infants, that the majority if parents cope well albeit they are tired. But the ones that are kept up or have the crankiest babies seem to be mostly type-A parents or moms as they’re the ones most involved in care at that period. Was it a scientifically based? No, mere observation from nurses at that time and place. I worked at Cedars Sinai in LA where I dealt with LA moms, new age parenting central.
Also Meghan does seem to fit that type of LA mom, just a hunch and of course I’m not basing off of any actual experience with Harry and Meghan. Didn’t know that was a prerequisite for speculative gossiping on this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | May 15, 2019 6:19 PM |
R176 - Most of the huge and spectacular jewellery that Camilla wears are from the royal collection, so hers to wear but not to keep. Any personal gifts of jewellery that her husband bought her or that were presents from other heads of state are hers to keep and pass on to anyone she chooses.
Camilla's engagement ring, to which I am extremely partial (I like it much than Diana's, Fergie's, Sophie's, or Meghan's) belonged to the Queen Mother, so upon Camilla's death, I assume it will have to be returned to the royal collection.
Diana's engagement ring, however, was a gift bought for her by Charles, and was hers to leave to her sons to give to whichever daughter in law came along first. William had to ask Harry if he agreed to William giving it to Kate.

R177 I'm with you. Frog Cott is no Anmer Hall or KP, but as a place to live it's still grander than the vast majority of people will ever come close to experiencing. I bet the ceilings are high and the room proportions generous. I would do the same, given the opportunity, as you. Just go all out making the interiors beautiful and hosting wonderful parties. Which Hazbean definitely have the resources to do. How much more fun to actually be able to enjoy your own dinner parties instead of being the one slaving away in the kitchen and constantly distracted by having to top up drinks etc.?
I'm definitely here for interiors discussion. That photo of KP from the 80s, above - EUGH. That magenta background, the shade of blue used for those curtains, that wallpaper. Foul. I hate it.
I'm disappointed we don't see more current photos of the interiors of the royal residences, although the fact that Hazbean are suing over a few pics of a place they were moving out of anyway doesn't bode well for the RF throwing open their doors and inviting the photographers in. HM herself has been photographed in some hilariously conventionally appointed rooms at times, I wonder if she keeps the real extravagances behind closed doors? She slipped up with that golden piano!

R187 - Most definitely - if someone offered me FrogCott I would be packed in half an hour. In fact, I'd probably just make a pyre out of everything I owned and start over.
Some of the things shown in royal interiors are held onto because of provenance and family history, not necessarily great aesthetics. From what I've seen of the Queen's personal apartments, especially up at Balmoral, it's incredibly mundane - for all the grandeur of her jewels and state residences, you get the sense that what makes her happy is Liberty prints, chintz, and cosiness. There is probably a connection between the tiresome grandeur and the appreciation for homier private spaces.
After the Abdication, as the Yorks sadly left behind their lovely private residence in London for the mammoth BP, the new King went up to visit the "nursery" area of BP. He looked around at the dismal rooms and is said to have said slowly, "No. No, that won't do at all."
The Yorks adored their London home near Piccadilly and no one was particularly thrilled to head for BP.
Another fun factoid: after the Abdication, six-year-old Pss. Margaret is said to have complained, with annoyance, "I had just learned to write Y-O-R-K and now I am to sign myself Margaret all alone."
by Anonymous | reply 197 | May 15, 2019 7:11 PM |

Why is Harry considered a special case? I've been reading that after Charles dies, he will get his share (presumed half) of Charles' "personal" wealth, as well as his share of Charles' personal property.
It never happens like that in royal families though. Margaret was considered to have been her father (the king's) favorite. Yet it is Elizabeth who got all the things - Sandringham and Balmoral, personal property, were not divided between herself and Margaret, but went to her. I believe the king's personal wealth went to her - certainly not divided between her and Margaret, although Margaret may have inherited a subsistence.
I think Kitty Kelly got a tour of Margaret's apartment in KP and it was extremely shabby. Extension cords, folding chairs for guests, etc. Now this could be down to Margaret's alcoholic slovenliness, but does not explain the dearth of decent furniture and the lack of upkeep of the essentials such as air conditioning, electricity, and useable furniture. She had her place on Mustique, which her son inherited (it was not shared with her daughter, Sarah Chatto).

Harry probably isn't going to get anything beyond his trust and current place. The whole reason aristocrats have managed to keep their shit together is precisely because it doesn't get split among the children. The first son or eldest daughter inherits most everything.

That's a very medieval-great-room looking room, R207, but I have no idea when Sandringham was built (it's not medieval, is it?) or what the other end of that room looks like.
I don't like any of the interiors posted here yet except the one at R201 (Garden Room at Clarence House). I don't associate any of the royals with good taste in particular and none of the current living members as aesthetes. Perhaps Charles? He does dress well.
"you get the sense that what makes her happy is Liberty prints, chintz, and cosiness. " - Yes, R197, that is very much the feeling I get as well. HM is the only one I feel any real affection for, her determined lack of grand taste is probably one reason for it, too. She's sort of famously philistine in her cultural tastes, too, isn't she? None of this posturing about not watching GoT for her, I bet.
As for the objets etc. the RF must build up, I can only imagine. In my quite ordinary 4 decades of life I have managed to acquire a surprising amount of stuff. Luckily most of mine doesn't consist of priceless works of art and can easily be tossed.

R213 - Charles's personal wealth (on paper, again, most of it is not liquid assets, but landholdings, investments, etc.) is about $400 million. I'm sure Charles will leave another trust to each son which will probably double their personal wealth. But William will also come in for the revenues from the Duchy of Cornwall, about $22 million annually. I'm sure Charles will also distribute to Harry and some other poor relations supplements from the revenues of the Duchy of Lancaster, which will be his upon becoming King, as the Duchy of Cornwall reverts to his eldest son.
Harry will be fine. But William will be finer.

"Kensington Palace compared to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle is shite. KP is nothing more than the Royal government housing. It's the wealthy version of the projects."
Yep. The infamous Aunt Pile. I posted below what Margaret's quarters looked like. In fact, fan of William and Kate that I am, I was dismayed to read he'd signed "an undertaking" promising to remain in KP when Charles is King (don't believe he made any promises about when he himself is king). Clarence House is so much more elegant, as are all of Charles' residences. The only time I've seen the interior of Will and Kate's place is when the Obama's visited and we saw one of the rooms. Cozy looking, lots of lamps. I'm sure all of us would love to live in a place as central and spacious as KP, but it's not the luxurious best of everything that people think of when they think palace.
R213 - aristos who have enough of the necessary (as P.G. Wodehouse would put it), will generally set up their non-heirs, including daughters, with some kind of trust fund and even better, a "little place" in Belgravia or Mayfair. Not all aristos are so positioned, however. Primogeniture and how very many aristos were chattel-rich and cash poor were a favorite topic of Charles Spencer at one point. I recall him writing about how an heir he knew, who, like himself, inherited, got busy selling off as much chattel as he could to set up his sisters with some kind of living, as they were left unprovisioned by the father before the father died. The sisters are supposed to marry rich before daddy kicks the bucket. Another fave topic of Earl Spencer's was how much chattel disappears thanks to daddy's second or third wife who can't recall ever seeing the object or has no recollection what happened to this or that painting, vase, set of jewelry, or rug. These missing chattel show up when the heir is ready to take over and the widow gives him a tour.
When I see how Kitty Spencer merches her ass of, has used plastic surgery and fillers to glamorous herself, and is now busy dating wealthy 60 year olds while setting up pre-arranged pap walks, I can only imagine that her daddy is intending to do what all of his ancestors did, and leave everything to the eldest male even though primogeniture has been adjusted (but does that apply to nobility as well as royals? I never saw fireworks set off by Julian Fellowes, and as he married a female aristo, that was a cause close to his heart (one he dramatized via Lady Mary on Downton Abbey).

Another thing to keep in mind regarding Charles' personal fortune is the incentive he has by merging it with the current fortune of the Sovereign. The ascending Sovereign does not pay taxes on the inheritance from the previous Sovereign. For this reason alone, I say that he'll probably add most of his current holdings to that which he is to inherit.

I don't have a link for the "Prince Charles at 70" doc that was shown on PBS in the U.S. If someone can post a link you can go to the 30:00 mark where Charles and HMTQ are having a walking tête-à-tête about Frogmore Cottage.
[quote]Charles: Does Frogmore look quite good? Elizabeth: I wouldn't know. I haven't seen it in ages. Charles: I'm longing to see the new paint. Do you know what they've done? Elizabeth: (speaking over him) It's very little. Charles: Is it very little? Elizabeth: It's TERRIBLY little.

R221 I'm pretty sure the rules for non-royals aristocrats have specifically NOT changed. I recall some controversy about it after the changes were made for the royal family only.
As for Will and Kate's apartment at KP, I agree. It looks traditional and clean and nice and I of course wouldn't complain if someone wanted me to live there. But it doesn't have those sky-high ceilings (am I alone in not being able to muster an ounce of jealousy for gold pianos and works of art and ALL THE JEALOUSY for those ridiculously high ceilings?) and as you said the grandeur of other royal properties. Not one of the photos posted her, of any era, truly gives me envy. I'm convinced it's poor ceiling height (and carpets) ruining it for me. Heh.

"I'm sure Charles will also distribute to Harry and some other poor relations supplements from the revenues of the Duchy of Lancaster, which will be his upon becoming King, as the Duchy of Cornwall reverts to his eldest son."
Harry will be fine, but as Margaret was also one of two children and not that fine, I question if Charles will really depart from the welfare state mentality of giving the second kid a stipend and the eldest gets just about everything, with the understanding that the spare will always have a roof over his or her head. I think there must be something there about wanting to leave the spare shackled somewhat lest they set themselves up as some sort of "rival court" which Harry and Meghan have clearly signaled they feel entitled to do. That would go against everything Charles believes. He's already had to deal with Andrew and his mother's favoritism to Andrew. Yet the most mummy has done for Andrew cash wise (despite a wonderful housing situation) is to gift him and Fergie with an 8 million home that years later Andrew was able to sell for about 4 million over the asking price (royal finances are shady as fuck). It's believed that's how Andrew financed the purchase of his multi-million dollar place in Switzerland. Then the Queen set him up in the royal Lodge, and I think he also has the obligatory rooms at BP.

In addition to the well-known homes and estates in England, there's the estates in Scotland, some of which are massive. And apparently plenty of other estates on the properties of various palaces, as Meghan and Harry stans were busy speculating the queen was going to hand off one or the other to their faves. There are also many more cottages on the properties of various palaces as well. I recall reading the queen had a smallish one fixed up and then handed Harry and William the keys for them to use as a getaway (read, take their hook-ups and girlfriends).
In my dream scenario, I would trade every single one of the landlocked properties for the royal yacht Brittania, no decomissioned and a tourist attraction in ... Scotland? I just haven't gotten over the documentary footage of the family aboard. I think they were on the Mediterranean. The combination of cozy "just regular family!" footage with the unspeakable beauty of the sea and skye, and the perfect scale of the boat decks is difficult to forget. Sarah Chatto was the one commenting on the footage and I think even she felt daunted by the glamour.

I did a bit of googling and the York's Swiss chalet is estimated at 13 million euros which I guess is 16 million dollars? And since it's Switzerland bet Andrew didn't pay half that and I bet he banked the rest of inflated sale price of Sunninghill Farm. He owns the Swiss chalet jointly with Fergie, who, in 2013, applied for Swiss residency as she feels so "free" there. I bet she's been stacking up coin left and right. When I look back it reads that the queen purchased Sunninghill for both Andrew and Sarah, jointly, which was quite broad minded of her I guess.
Andrew has always been the fave of the queen. I think she likes rascals or she wouldn't have married whom she married. I recall a gif of Andrew smacking Sarah on the ass at some event or other. He may be sleaze, but he seems fun, and he also seems very affectionate, both of which seem like a bit of a departure from her Maj's other kids. He gets his fat ass on a pony and rides alongside his thousand year old mum of a morning as well, which I'm sure is appreciated. And he was verklempt as hell at Eugenie's wedding, even helping the designer adjust the dress.
Also read some archival articles around the time of the demise of Fergie and Andrew's marriage. Most of the articles are chauvinistic, claiming Fergie was blatantly running around with Steve Wynn and the toe-sucking guy while Andrew was clueless because he's as dumb as a box of lint.

I was in London two years ago and as I've never seen Buckingham Palace I finally did it. The main thing about BP for a tourist is the balcony. If you've touristed, you know the feeling. "Oh! There's that thing we see on TV!" Then we headed down the Mall (I think) and passed a gleaming building that turned out to be Clarence House. The exterior paint is indescribable - something out of a Farrow & Ball Pointing dream, although not sure Pointing can be adapted for exteriors. The freaking thing gleamed. It doesn't look majestic or palace-y - just plain gorgeous. I also like very solid square shapes instead of sprawling shapes, and Clarence House has that look too.

Speaking of promigeniture and all that, it calls to mind Jane Austen's Emma. Emma's sister was married and so apparently out of the inheritance running according to the novel's plot, so Emma had very little incentive to marry. She had endless influence over her father while he lived, and stood to inherit the perfection of the Hartfield estate.
Can't recall what is supposed to happen when she marries Mr. Knightly. He inherits? Hartfield is divided between Emma's husband and her sister's husband? But the entire point of primogeniture is not to divide anything.
ANOTHER digression - this was part of the plot of Jane Eyre as well. Mr. Rochester married Bertha because he was not the heir, and Bertha had twenty thousand pounds. His father and brother were attempting to marry him off wealthy the way parents would a daughter. But then his father and brother both died disgracefully and Rochester ended up inheriting his father's estate anyway.

I'm also a fan of both Clarence House, one of the most understated yet elegant private homes in London, and of what Charles did with Highgrove - if you look at what it was before he bought it and what he did with the grounds and gardens, it's quite amazing.
Diana hated Highgrove, not least because it was in the area of Gloucestershire not far from Camilla's home and Princess Anne's, Gatcombe Park. I think it used to be called the "Golden Triangle" for that reason. Diana had no interest in environmental issues, flora, fauna, etc., and she thought Highgrove too small and claustrophobic - none of which opinions she shared with Charles when he brought her there to look at it prior to proposing.
Personally, I think he turned it into a gem and it's a testament to how poorly matched Diana and Charles were that she couldn't share his love for the place or support enthusiastically his plans for it.
It's my understanding that Charles's work in the region brought back some species of flora and fauna that had disappeared due to loss of habitat.
I still think him a self-absorbed, self-entitled spoilt twat, but, credit where due . . .

Highgrove is also a stunner. Maybe opinions should be divided between "best of royal London accomodations" and "best of country estate accomodations". Charles wins both. Say what you will, but don't question his aesthetics. Either his own sense of scale, proportion and aesthetics are faultless, or he relies upon those whose possess that sense. My favorite about Charles' taste is scale. Everything is absolutely beautiful, but live-able, and while the colors and fixtures are immaculate, they don't overwhelm. The gardens at Highgrove are incredible.
OTOH, I think Kate and William got the short end of the stick. KP's situation has been discussed, but I also think Amner Hall is, as these things go, not a standout. Maybe it's the flat landscape. I like Georgian architecture, but this one isn't inspiring. It's old, but has a dreary new build look like the lot was only cleared a few years ago, nobody planted decent trees around the place, and the property looks neglected (not the home, the landscape).

R242 - Andrew was alleged to be the "reunion child" of the Queen and Philip after a bad patch in the marriage and that's why she's so partial to him - it's not at all certain that's held up over time. She then had Edward so Andrew wouldn't feel like an only child.

I' m in NYC and long before Trump ran for president Trump Tower was a notorious piece of shit. Whenever I see his overly gilted, low-ceilinged interiors I think of the rot and cracked drywall behind all the fabric, paint, glue on mouldings and paste. R268 - Anmer Hall was built in 1802 and used to be a Grade II listed house but was later delisted, so your observations of neglect may be spot on. Certainly, although grand enough, it isn't a patch on Highgrove, but then, the Queen wasn't about to invest in it what Charles did in Highgrove. She did, however, spend 1.5 million of her own money on renovating it, and trees and the landscape were also redone but with privacy and security in mind, not necessarily beautiful. It's still a much better property than FrogCott - as to the flat landscape, you have to remember we're talking about Norfolk here, not the Highlands. East Anglia and near the coast and therefore flat. Much depends on taste and some of Norfolk is quite scenic, but if you gave me a choice between East Anglia and the Highlands, where Balmoral sits on 40,000 acres of some of the richest game and timbre in the UK, I know where I'd go.
It's interesting that both the Cambridge boys are located under the Queen's eye: one at Sandringham and the other at Windsor.

R271, I have the sense Charles has reconsidered downsizing. That pathetic showing of him, Camilla, a single Harry, Kate and Will, Queenie and Phillip on the balcony did not play well with the public. There was a thimbleful of charisma up there. I'm one who is a big fan of Kate and Will, but even they were diminished by this skinflint showing.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | May 15, 2019 9:19 PM |
R273 - thanks. I think the dreariness I see in Amner is there's quite a LOT of flat, unlandscaped looking land around the place, so it doesn't look particularly homey. The ratio of flat landscape to the scale of the house doesn't help the house.
At least Will and Kate have Bucklebury Manor, where I suspect they spend more time than they do at Amner.

R276 - Andrew has a lease. Extending many years past where he can be expected to live. I don't think Charles can do much about Andrew's living arrangements. I think Edward and Sophie at Bagshot also have a lease that extends past their anticipated natural life spans. They already economize by occupying only a small part of the place. And both Andrew and Edward use BP as their London headquarters.
Charles is not known to be a fan of BP, so it's suspected he'll stay esconced at Clarence House and use BP for state events and such only. Maybe that's why William did his KP undertaking - he knew nobody would shift homes when the queen passed.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | May 15, 2019 9:27 PM |
R274 - I think that showing was the Queen's doing, not Charles's, and I doubt the public cared much, but it really pissed of Andrew, particularly. I think the Pared Down Monarchy is coming as much from the Queen's concern for public optics at a time of economic austerity, bailing out banks, and political uncertainty - it was just passed off as Charles's brain fart. I doubt he'd have let it circulate if he hadn't discussed it with Mum.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | May 15, 2019 9:27 PM |
Given the pictures of the interiors of Clarence House, I think it more and more likely that Charles will not move into BP when he becomes king.
The Queen and Philip and their 2 children also did not want to leave Clarence House for BP but the Queen, being new to the job, allowed herself to be pressured by Churchill, etc.
Charles will refuse to move, I suspect.
Since Clarence House is really lovely, he has every reason to want to stay.

I believe that Sparks is attention-crazy, and a bit high on her recently gained huge profile; and I believe that Harry is love-drunk at the moment and willing to indulge her every whim, but I don't for a second believe they are trying to 'hurt' his brother, his wife or family. There's competition and perhaps some jealousy right now that is bordering on unhealthy, but it will sort itself out - the BRF is very hierarchical, which means The Heir Wins Out in the end.
The online stans on both sides are a bit off and have been on the attack. Neither couple controls these groups. Meghan does not head up a 'cult'. She does not have that kind of power. Remember, Haz & Bean are working royals which means they work for the entity known as the BRF, are supported and paid by them. Its in their interest to go along to get along; if they can't or won't, they won't be working royals in the future and make it out on their own as private citizens. That could be by their own choice, or it could be put them in a way that they can't refuse. Stop being a worrywart.

Clarence House for the win. No wonder Charles wants to stay, should anything happen. It's timely that BP is being " done up ", now. And that has been halted, due to excavation work. So that should take years. And years. Meanwhile, the Queen can spend her time in the places she LOVES. No-one has a loving attachment to BP, it seems.

In ten years' time, if she's still around, Meghan Markle is going to be near 50 and no one will give two fucks what she thinks or what she does - she'll have become a tiresome joke. Kate and William will be Prince and Princess of Wales, and America can slobber over Duchess Meghan from now till Domesday: it won't make any difference. The long game goes to William and Kate and to their children, whilst Archie and Betty become meaningless footnotes in the history of the BRF.
If Meghan Markle papped boiling bunnies in front of the children at breakfast, Kaiser and Celebitchy would accuse the DM for racism in criticising it.
Kaiser doesn't matter; Gayle King doesn't matter; Oprah doesn't matter; IG posts don't matter.
Only birth order matters in this game, and Harry and Meghan are going to lose.
That's why I think they'll head off to L.A. as soon as she gets that other kid out and a few more years to establish her "humanitarian brand".
And not one head in Britain will rest uneasily on the pillow without them - except, of course, at the tabloids.

You hit the nail on the head: Americans don't understand the BRF or a hereditary monarchy or system. They've never had it, don't get it. The celebrity ecosystem is what they know in terms of objects of admiration. It's no mistake that Hollywood was created in America. To them Meghan is a Celebrity, who should be able to mold or re-shape the institution of the UK monarchy how she sees fit to do. She is a 'change-maker', a 'breath of fresh air'. They refuse to see that its she who's beholden to the BRF, and not the other way around. They believe her public popularity and media profile trumps all - because in America, that's normally how success is measure among the rich powerful and famous.
Forgive them and move on, they know not of what they speak. Re-read r298 and feel better.

R283 - The media sycophancy from some quarters (it's some, definitely not all) is a little nauseating but let's get some perspective here. William and Kate are two of the most materially and socially privileged people on this planet. Not only that, but by they have 3 gorgeous, healthy young children and a solid-looking marriage. There is very, very little for either of them to be unhappy about and I'm sure no reason for you to be unhappy on their behalf.
Also, as R298 points out, the bald fact is that nothing - nothing - matters but birth order. Social media followers don't matter. Treacly American TV specials don't matter. Celebrity blogs don't matter. Only birth order matters. William will be King. Hazbean can gain a few billion IG followers and none of the actual facts change.

Hey! Do not lump all Americans in the same category. Some us understand hereditary monarchy. I would wager most Americans either don't know who MM is or their thoughts are less than complimentary. As has been noted before, even the audience she is striving for would much rather follow the Kardashians. The only segment of the population that really supports her are middle-aged white women of the same ilk who thinks Angelina Jolie is a humanitarian. In other words, the gullible or fellow narcissists.

R283-Meghan Markle hasn't won a thing. Fancy pad in London? Nope. Luxurious country estate? Nope. The infamous emerald tiara? Nope. The really good jewels from the Royal collection? Nope. Her own court? Nope. A royal title for her son? Nope. A future as a princess? Nope. She has anonymous IG followers. Big deal. That gets her literally nothing. Do you really think the British tax payers are following Oprah, Lainey and Kaiser? Hell, no. The BRF is all about heredity and birth order, and all the good stuff flows from that. MM is a pain in the ass, but she's changing nothing and in the end not getting much except tabloid attention.

Titles, jewels, property: They clearly show who is important and favored in the BRF. Meghan has gotten almost none of these, and won't if she doesn't settle down.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | May 15, 2019 11:29 PM |
I'm well aware where the true success of the monarchy lies. My entire point is meghan and Harry and who their entire brand is for still don't seem to understand it. So rather pettily I would like to see the sussexes and the American, celebrities and bloggers/journos (American ones) be brought crashing down to earth and they language they understand is through having less Instagram followers etc, william having some upper hand to make gayle, oprah, Clooney etc look small and so all these kiss ass shows for meghan just never happen. Will and particularly Kate get so much more famous and more loved all the while giving a fuck you to meghans celeb friends and scobie et al.
I don't think the sussexes care about bad press at all. I think they love the narrative that they can play with. Victims. Harry acts like oh I'm the spare and have always been picked on and how they are bow after his family. Meghan would never have been talked about full stop had she stayed in la. She then gets to promote her narrative that she was the most talked about person, constantly on magazines and media even if it was bad stuff. Better than being not talked about. I bet she orgasmed like no one ever when Clooney mentioned her treatment like Diana.

To return to architecture for the moment, Charles purchased Highgrove House through the Duchy of Cornwall, which manages the place. In renovating the Georgian architecture, Charles added neo-classical touches at the back, and the spectacular gardens are open to tourists at certain times of the year.
It really does look an extraordinary place - I hadn't see images of the neo-classical look at the back, and it's a shame Diana lacked the imagination to join Charles in loving it. Her contempt for it probably contributed to the early strains in their marriage.
Ah, what it must be like to have money like that!

It'll do a ratings flatline, and the purpose will be to promote how huge they are (which they aren't) in the US. Nice try Gail, but it won't happen.

'Meghan Markle hasn't won a thing'
Yes, she has. She's won the most eligible bachelor in the world. That's a huge thing. She's also won a beautiful country estate, with three acres of land, instead of the apartment in KP next to Kate Botox and Fug William. She had a son almost straight away, so wasn't plagued by rumours of infertility.
I doubt she likes or cares about Stepford Kate. She wanted a house far away from her, and that is what she has.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | May 16, 2019 1:29 AM |
R314 I agree, most middle aged women couldn't give a toss, they loved Diana but no one will replace her ever, certainly not MM. The weird haters of Kate are woman of Kate's age, back when they were teenagers had posters of William on their walls and can't get over he didn't marry them. I put MM in this category too, she has wanted William since way back. The other group are just angry female millennials who are innately insecure and disillusioned with their lives and being woke makes them feel important. MM appeals to the whole woke SJW set. Then the third group, the biggest and most vocal, the paid for bots/fake accounts that are all over twitter and instagram.

Kate must long for a blepharoplasty procedure to remove those ageing eye bags that are getting worse every year. She's also passed them on to all three of her homely looking children. Meghan doesn't have to worry about that.

'I put MM in this category too, she has wanted William since way back. '
Wrong again. William has been dating Kate since he was 19 so he was always off the menu, whereas Harry was tantalisingly single on and off for years. William is also ugly. Harry, before he grew the ginger beard, was considered so eligible in the US that they created a Bachelor style show around him, where a model posed as Harry and American girls competed to win his hand.

R320 Harry was the most eligible bachelor in Britain for 5 mins in his 20's, certainly not for the last 10 years. The most eligible is Huge Grosvenor, he's good looking, a Duke and the world's youngest billionaire under 30. That's a catch, not dim balding Harry who has to live in ex servants quarters because he isn't independently wealthy and has to get his Daddy to give him pocket money. What's so sad is how ugly Harry has become. He was attractive for about a cup of coffee or so (when he wasn't wearing his nazi costumes) 10 years ago. Those narrow-set eyes have become rather glazed over the past 12 months or so, though. The hair recedes and becomes fuzzier.

Regardless of whether or not they actually met face to face (there are sources saying they did and those who say they didn't) this is the obvious pushback from Hazbean's PR because they've (finally) realized it's not a good look. Also, meeting or not, this CBS special is as clear a PR exercise as the People mag story was. It's actually going to be very interesting to see how MM is portrayed, because however it is, she's behind it. Whatever version of her we see in this special is the version she personally wants us to see. I'm curious to see if there will be any moves to placate the critics or if there's been no progression at all from the pre-Harry fauxmanitarian/budget Goop she was presenting as back then. Sickbuckets to the ready if anyone starts talking about her close personal relationship with Jesus.

I imagine Harry has nursed a giant inferiority complex all his life. Older brother gets the birthright, is taller, better looking, smarter, better athlete, greater depth of character. Harry is, was, and always will be the second rate son. Even was a disappointment to dear old pa who wanted him to be a girl.
Is that why he has such poor manners?
[quote]Beau Skerrett, an Australian polo player, recalled the moment he came head to head with Harry on the pitch. 'I hate the injustice of it all and how determined Harry and meghan seem to be to hurt william and Kate and destroy the cambridges.'
Surely you cannot be more than 15? Detaching themselves a little from the Cambridges is not 'destroying' them. Meghan will always be more popular in the US because she's American. You need to grow up and stop taking it all so personally.
Meghan as Archie's mother won't need a shopping channel job. She'll be set up with a handsome alimony from Harry.
William looks 50, not late 30s so will probably die before he gets to be king. Kate has been anorexic for over 20 years now and she won't outlive him.

I've toured Kensington Palace , Buckingham Palace and Windsor Palace (all in the public areas only). I think Kensington Palace is the prettiest and most liveable. The orangerie is beautiful. Nicky Hilton had her wedding reception inside the orangerie. Plus, Kensington Palace is within walking distance of the best shops and restaurants in Kensington.
Buckingham Palace was pretty run down in the public areas. All very grey and not inviting. I know that they are doing a big renovation.
I know someone who had business with the Queen. They were invited to dinner at Balmoral. The Queen's favorite, Campbell's Tomato Soup was served for dinner. lol.
I think Frogmore House is one the prettiest royal estates including the lovely lake. I think H&M lucked out with the homes they have been given by the Queen - York Cottage, Frogmore Cottage, Adelaide Cottage so far...
It is good for H&M to get away from prickly, dour William. Harry was the third wheel for far too long with William and Kate.
Amner Hall is bigger than Frogmore Cottage but how awful that Kate has to live next to her husband's mistress. Although the article I read about Rose Hanbry where she is having her portrait painted made her seem pretty nice and down-to-earth unlike Charles' Spencer's 3rd wife.
After watching a video of the Reborn dolls on Youtube, I don't know who is crazier - Skippy and the Skippies, TorontoPapers1, DL Megexiters, or those freaky women who buy the Reborn dolls and treat them like a real baby.

R168 H&M were leasing a place in the Cotswolds. They were planning to buy a place there (renovate an old farm) or build a new home in Great Tew. It is the plan to by one of those places (not the rental) that H&M are claiming in court aerial photos of it by the media made it unsafe for them to buy a place.
Soho Farmhouse is 100 acres in Great Tew.

R410, whatever “handsome alimony” Meghan gets will not be good enough for Meghan. Nothing makes her happy.
Even married to the worlds most eligible-eat bachelor, a prince. Even being given a custom-renovated historical and huge house on a royal estate. Even with the most famous family she never had. Even with free designer clothing and shoes.
It’ll never be enough for her.
by Anonymous | reply 425 | May 16, 2019 11:10 AM |
r410 Where from? Harry has a n income of £300k per year, we know this because he pays tax on it. That's not particularly handsome before or after tax. MeGain would get a share of that income. I doubt she will be able to live on that, so I'm sure we'll see her hawking her wares on a thirdrate shopping channel not too long after any divorce. The Capital is in a trust and those trusts are set up in such a way that they are not touched in a divorce. The British courts have recently ruled (thanks Tessy!) that the Wife can't expect alimony based on what the in-laws have but must be based on the husbands income.

To add to r423 timing wise, not only had the plan drastically changed sometime in Oct/Nov 2018, but by the end of November it was officially announced they were going to the squat servants' quarters at FrogHo Cottage instead of the beautiful, relatively stately, York Cottage (also in Windsor Park).

Llwynywermod.
This lush 192 acre estate, located near the village of Myddfai in Wales, can be traced all the way back to the 13th century, when a relative of Anne Boleyn lived there. The large main house was destroyed over the years, and the current residence is what used to be the farm house.
Prince Charles bought the property in 2006, and turned it into his Welsh getaway home. Charles renovated the place extensively, turning it into an impressive, eco-friendly residence which he moved into with Camilla in 2008.

Craigowan Lodge Royal Home.
This seven bedroom stone mansion is located on Balmoral Estate, about a mile away from the main castle. Craigowan Lodge is used to host important guests who visit Balmoral, and the house is said to be a bit more rustic than Balmoral Castle itself.
When Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balmoral, they would often stay at Craigowan. Queen Elizabeth stays there sometimes, too, when she arrives in Scotland in July, while there are still members of the public touring the castle.

by Anonymous | reply 461 | May 16, 2019 2:17 PM |
R441 - Dinner is black tie at Balmoral if there are guests - which there often are. The PM and spouse are always invited for at least one weekend, as is the Archbishop of Canterbury, and members of the royal family, from Charles down to Lady Sarah Chatto, are expected up at some point. However, if the Queen and Philip are alone, they don't go the whole route with gowns, jewels, black tie, and the skirls of bagpipes.
But with guests, yes, the code is fairly strict.

The truth is, the guest list hasn't been published, so the tabs, as usual, are blithely making it up as they go along with their fingers crossed. The only confirmed guest so far is the Queen. Very good PR strategy in the suit and statement. It’s just The Duke, one accidental mention of “they,” but for the most part, it is all him.
It takes her out so the headlines can’t put it on her and reinforces the “protector, papa bear” who’s been suggested by her friends and supporters.
Very boring statement but excellent laying of the foundation so when HE chooses to exit for the well-being of his family, it will be on brand as rooted in his protective nature.
UK press might be mean but US will eat it up. “What they did for love” and sorts. 300,000 is plenty to start off. They’ll have free stuff offered by the truckload. One Instagram ad post for diapers will probably get them $250,000.
They have nothing to worry about and do not need to stay in the family’s good graces. It’s denial to pretend they can’t write their own check in the US.

Just checked my DirecTV schedule for Gail King's H&M + 1 tomorrow (I'm in a mid-sized west coast media market). It is categorized as a "CBS News Special" even though it's being broadcast just outside of prime time (7:00 p.m.) and its competition is game shows (Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune), entertainment shows (Access HW, Extra), regional news, syndicated shows and Latin American soap operas.
"No Exit!" - a CBS News Sunday special ("the past, present and future of transportation in America, and how millions of drivers cope with an increasingy difficult daily commute") gets the prime time spot at 8:00. I guess CBS is afraid that even St. Super Meghan of Frogmire can't compete against Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, the Blacklist, and Antiques Roadshow so they put up Jane Pauley's return to TV up against them.

R482-for some reason that photo reminded me of my favorite Queen Victoria anecdote. She and Empress Eugenie were attending an event in public together (I believe it was an opera). When it was time to be seated, footmen stood behind both woman. Eugenie looked behind her as she sat -a reflex to make sure the seat was where she expected it to be. Victoria simply sat. She knew that footman would make sure the seat would meet her posterior. She didn't need to double check.

Am I surprised that the very first "official" photo of Archie is one that is artificially manipulated and posed? Fuck no. After all, look at who his mother is, she's someone who's always posing in photographed. Meghan is someone who always has to manage her image, how she's viewed by others, people whom she naturally considers to be potential grovelers at her feet as she should be worshipped. Look at the body language between Meghan's photos where she's always posed for effect from body down to even fake facial expressions, to Kate who's photos are not posey in the same sense as Meghan's are. I don't mean stand-there-smile-for-the-camera sort of way, but the extras/ details that give away the artificiality behind the poses/ expressions.

Oprah, for those you Brits who don't know, is also a big fucking hypocrite who cozies up to people who she thinks "fit" her agenda/ image. She's also very status conscious and there are multiple, public instances to demonstrate this as well. Her status-consciousness also extends to her celebrity friends that she cultivates. For years, Oprah was the biggest supporter of serial rapist Bill Cosby and his wife. She did interviews with them and always addressed him as Dr. Cosby using the honorary degrees that many universities (including Yale) bestowed upon him. Then when it came out that he's a rapist scum, then it's like crickets from Oprah, the woman who gave him years of post-Cosby show exposure and credibility. Oprah was also buddy-buddy with Harvey Weinstein and then acted like she knew zilch about his casting couch reputation, and she's supposed to be a media/ entertainment insider. She has a history of cozying up to powerful people then dropping them when they don't fit her narrative of being 'mogul with integrity' in the public's eyes.
So as I see it, Oprah needs Meghan as much Meghan needs Oprah, they both need each other to prop each other up. I doubt they talk about much or have things in common other than shared love of publicity and celebrity. The old Oprah who started out as an earnest talk show host in the 80s, that Oprah is gone. The Oprah that you're seeing now who's angling for a BRF slice of the pie (god know Oprah loves pies), this is the fame whore Oprah, the one who never lets the world forget that she's richer and more connected than rest of us plebs. It says a lot about Meghan that this ruthless Oprah is the one that she's aligning with. The same Oprah who evicted her stepmother from the home she shared with Oprah's dad, after he died. Maybe there's something they have in common after all.

I don't know, R512. I have this vision of Meghan and Harry on a campaign to make all things Africa chic and cool (their "brand" of chic and cool, anyway). I could see a Vanity Fair cover of them in some dramatic natural setting, wearing all their bracelets, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 518 | May 16, 2019 4:48 PM |
R510 - Meghan is stuck in the 1990s. It's so obvious. She hasn't moved on. That's pretty common in narcs.
R518 in case you haven't noticed that sort of cultural appropriation / using Africa as a prop for white virtue signaling has received a shit ton of backlash lately. If they want to bury themselves they should try that one. Posing with elephants, wearing bracelets, putting on some type of safari crossed with "local" garb - they will get a blowback that will singe their eyeballs.
Not to mention Africa is a continent, not a country, and it gets to be offensive when the Meghans and Harrys of the world see it as homogenous. That just highlights that for them Africa is a prop and a branding exercise.

I think part of it is because her brand is very much “powerful women of color.” There isn’t a huge pool for her to choose from. There’s a big age gap between Oprah and the upcoming generation.
Beyoncé is in the middle but seems to prefer emerging to drop an album - and then laying low. She seems the type more to donate to a charity without needing the press to know. She and Jay did pose with that photo though so there might be some potential. Even B though is moving towards the “elder” category though.
The younger queen, in my opinion, is Rihanna. Rihanna vibes as the most direct, no fucks given, celebrity of today. She would never waste her time with a PR friendship.
That pretty much leaves who she’s got as far as her I’m all about WOC narrative.

I'm going to cut and paste this here as I'm not sure the link worked. This is a parody from twitter of Meghan's high school reunion letter:
"Kensington Palace,
Dearest Class of 1999,
It is with a heavy heart I write this letter on Kensington Palace Letterhead. I am sure by now you are all desperately missing my attendance at our twenty year reunion, despite that fact that I cut you all out of my life the day after graduation.
You see, my intentions were not to hurt you, but as you had nothing to offer me by way of money or fame, you were simply surplus to requirements. My heart is broken into a million pieces to cause you such unwarranted pain by my not attending, and I am sure it will be a most cheap and chavy affair, which of course, I am now well above.
Please do not attempt to contact myself, or my adoring Prince husband, as we no longer have time for commoners with the arrival of our Royal son, His Royal Highness, Prince Duke Emperor Count Baron Knight Captain Earl Sir Archibald Harrison Spencer Mountbatten Windsor Sace-Coberg-Gotha Winfrey Clooney Williams.
As well as birthing the Second Coming, we are also exceptionally busy renovating our Frogmore Estate, gifted by The Queen, which none of you will ever visit.
Please think of me often, as I am sure you do, and do feel free to send appropriate gifts C/O Kensington Palace. Please know my tastes are quite expensive these days, and anything received under 1000.00 Pounds Sterling in value shall be returned, COD, of course.
Your most wonderful, beguiling, ravishing, humanitarian ex-friend, Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Sussex and Ruler of the Free World,
Meghan"

She usually cuts people when she’s done with them. She can’t exactly cut the woman who’s kids were in her wedding.
People think Sam and Dad are full of BS. They just ignore or aren’t aware of the years of blogging praise heaped on him before.

R533 - Not totally in disagreement with you, but whilst the Mulroney woman may not be "front and center" any longer, after their "close" friendship in Toronto all those years, she knows wayyyyyy too much about Meghan for MeAgain to risk ghosting her. My guess is Meghan will make her a godparent and consider her debt paid.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | May 16, 2019 6:34 PM |
Back to Meghan being stuck in the 1990s-it's much like Trump and the '80s. That's when the Time Magazine Man of the Year (it was "man" back then, I believe) meant something. Hence, his obsession with being on the cover. For him, that is the ultimate proof that he made it - right down to faking covers for his resorts. During the '90s, Princess Diana was all over People Magazine. For Meghan, being on the cover as a Royal must mean she made it. Never mind that People is now read by elderly white women in doctor's offices. Oprah and Clooney were also at their height. I wonder if narcs get stuck in the past because there's a critical point where they form their fragile egos and anything that happens beyond that time doesn't fit. The dissonance must be disconcerting to them.

KP is ahead without even trying. Just drop a pic of Kate in a new dress or show the kids and the instagram will explode. But they don't do that. They focus on the charities, not on the royal personalities, and yet Meghan still can't catch up even though the KP instagram isn't in the race.

R550, long before Meghan I read this whole treatise on narcs written by a civilian, but it was very good. She pointed out a lot of the smaller things that narcs do, and one of them that getting stuck in time. Keeping the same look, liking the same things. I do think it has to do with when their ego developed and early impressions were formed, just as you say Meghan's entire clothing style is also utterly 1990s. The distressed jeans and stilettos and the boyfriend shirt, and the panama hat. Her taste in instagram imagry is 1990s.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | May 16, 2019 8:03 PM |
It doesn't matter how many followers on IG the Sussexes have. It's meaningless in terms of the long game at the BRF. HazBean are going to get middle-aged quickly and then old. In real terms of importance to the monarchy or Britain, they just don't really matter now matter how that grifter deludes herself. Or maybe she knows and doesn't care, this IS the only game she's interested in, and, again, would serve her best outside the BRF. So I remain of the opinion that she isn't in this for the long haul unless there's a real collapse of her game due to public boredom and attrition in which case she'll stick to the gig she has. But if her investment in social media bullshit is where she's putting her eggs and she sees them as continuing to hatch, I don't see her sticking around the BRF past popping out another kid so she can be assured of some form of support whichever way it goes.

On one of my flights back stateside recently I got down to watch The Favourite and I was struck by the character Abigail how she plays coy and "good" in the beginning to get in everybody's good graces only for the audience to realize she is strictly for her own self-interest and advancement. Toward the end there is a last scene where Abigail and her cousin Sarah Churchill, aka Lady Marlborough, have their final confrontation.
“Oh my God, you really think you’ve won,” Sarah laughs incredulously. “Haven’t I?” Abigail smirks. But by the film’s final sequence, an exquisitely harrowing bedroom scene between the Queen and her new favorite, we come to understand Sarah’s parting words: “We were playing very different games.”
MEghan clearly is playing a very different game from the rest. It is amusing she imagines she has an upper hand. No matter what, she is a mere blip on the radar soon to be long discarded.

I love Titania McGrath.

From whence came this arriviste quoth by R424??? A filthy undertrodden member of the lumpen peasantry dare with impunity to impudently presume to actuate unto me this MOCKERY?!?!?
My sagacious subjects of The Data Lounge, this I duly promise unto your dearly desiccated heart chakras, languidly unfurling as they are like the infinite petals of the rare and endangered Lotus maculatus I once procured to infuse... Oh, never mind! My dearest homosexualists, you shall just have to wait for the cocktail tome I shall be directing the sweet souls of Grenfell to scribe in my humble name.
Back to this most egregious matter — that is, this matter of trepidatious import until which I must now subsume under its its heavy weight, under the greatest of duress and such. Upon my release from the Tower — which I am told shall be any day now — whereupon I shall take up residence within the storied walls Soho Bronzefield (jealous, bitches? LOLOLOL! Myself, you see, I am deemed proof of the told lie that the most beautiful possess not a sense of uproarious humour! LOL!). To you, my piquantly slagourous subjects, I swear I shall lock within this very cell the impudent parvenu quoth at R424!!
I blanket you, my beloved cockgobblers, in warmest namaste,

R577, Princess Michael IS a shady bitch. I wouldn’t tangle with her.

Titania McGrath is the Tomi Lahren of the woke set.

Cor blimey! 'Twas meant to be scribed thusly: R524. The parvenuity of the matter shall still stand, irreguardless of post numeral. It is thus noted.
Love and light,

Oh thank god! As we all know heads of state, and monarchy are dependent on who has the highest amount of Instagram followers! Better for the Queen, because she now knows who she has to pass over the crown to based on who is most popular out side of the UK. I'm sure Parliament is taking notice as I type this.

The image at R590 must be Photoshopped. Multiple DL posters and Skippy and DM commenters have all assured me that Meghan has only white friends. This brown woman must be a Suits fan who has took a selfie with Meghan years ago.
Nothing they say can save her from her fate. To the dungeons with her!

R591 - good one. It's sad that some people actually believe that social media is REAL LIFE.

Gayle King is no longer worth taking seriously. Glad I won't be watching that tripe. That show sounds to be deadly dull.

R595 - I watched Gayle King's H & M wedding program and if this new one is anything like that ass kissing example, I don't think you'll be missing much.

Gayle King sounds like she was hired by Meghan's PR to clean up Duchess Yoko's battered image.
