Whatever Happened to Kate Nelligan?

Great actress. Gained a lot of momentum in the early '90s with Frankie & Johnny and The Prince of Tides (for which she received an Oscar nomination). She also was the lead in a few movies in the late '70s/'80s.

And then she disappeared.

What happened?

Kate Nelligan never reached the A List status as an actress. She had a decent run in the B List but slipped into oblivion as she got older.

Kate as the female lead in Dracula 40 years ago.

She's retired for all intents and purposes, though she keeps an agent who says that if something ridiculously huge called she'd consider it.

Trevor Eve looking smashing in Dracula.

She was very much an actress of that day/age and the kind of roles people were hiring for. When the fads/trends changed, the jobs dried up.

Oh yeh I remember her. I really liked her. I remember in Without a Trace - a great movie about a tragic situation.

She was terrific in The Prince Of Tides. Nelligan is 69, so her starring days are over. She’s done very little in the past decade, so I’m guessing she pulled back on her own.

She was excellent on stage. I saw her in Plenty. They should have cast her in the film.

I saw her in the spy film "Eye of the Needle, " with Sutherland. She was terrific.

She was popular in the late ‘70s, early ‘80s. What happened to her career? Meryl Streep happened, is what happened to her career.

R11 and Helen Mirren.

I remember reading somewhere that she married a rich guy and had a special-needs child, which must have really put a dent in her career trajectory too.
