Her ex-partner, the Ukrainian boxer, was allegedly awarded FULL custody of their small kid by the family court judge. For a mother not to even get shared custody is abnormal and suggests she is in a very unstable place right now.

R14, because Wladimir Klitschko is a stupid jock. He’s a boxer so he thinks he’s bullet-proof. His brother, Vitaly, is the Mayor of Kiev and ex-leader of the Poroshenko political bloc. But now Poroshenko is out (and will possibly be investigated for corruption) and a new oligarch is in power (behind the new President). So who knows what will become of the Klitschko brothers. R29 is right. Wladimir Klitschko is in talks to return to the boxing ring and he’s currently preparing for his comeback. It’s unlikely he’s raising the kid. They likely dumped the kid on Grandma, she’s mentioned as the carer.

R30, why are you calling him “Vlad”? His Ukrainian name is Volodymir - there’s no “Vlad” in there. A short version of the name would be smthg like “Volodya” or “Vova”. “Vlad” is short for a completely different name: “Vladislav”.

I'm sure he is aware that it is better for the kid if it grows up in Ukraine than in the US, they also have a good family and they have a good relationship with each other. Their father was a general or other military and raised them to be patriots, he got cancer from Chernobyl and the mother is a widow for a couple of years, so can need her sons around more often; both men are doctors of philosophy. Vitali's wife is also a good mother, and after so many years in the US and Germany it was time to go back home. Political violence especially in modern societies tends to be less problematic than regular one, except total war. They can live very lavishly in Ukraine and the US is a pretty tough police state and it's tough to become successful without having done a good bit of crime. I'm sure he doesn't want the kid to become a spoiled and uneducated American brat.

Pffft, this describes Ukraine far more accurately than the US. Most “successful” Ukrainians are corrupt gov’t bureaucrats and shady oligarchs and racketeering crooks. The high level of corruption is endemic at this point, at all levels. The police are corrupt too - will do anything for a bribe. They dismantled the whole police force some years ago, in a restructuring attempt - still didn’t help stomp out the rampant corruption. Even the outgoing (formerly popular) billionaire President is embroiled in a corruption scandal now. And the new President (a standup comedy actor with zero legislative experience) has ties to another infamous billionaire oligarch crook, Kolomoisky. The former President wanted him arrested. The former PM sat in prison on corruption charges as well. It’s a criminal mess and clusterfuck.
