If the fan at OP's link is the same one I have it is a piece of crap. The high speed on it is what a normal fan would be low speed. Might as well not waste the energy of having it on.

I actually like the older style traditional ceiling fans. They are much cheaper, work better, last longer, and go with more interiors. (Although ultra contemporary modern interiors with a more industrialized look can look good with the modern ceiling fans designs.)

They are very effective, R14. I prefer a ceiling fan to turning on AC.
As for design, the simpler the better.
