Armchair psychologists: what motivates micromanagers?

Your inability to do your job!

They are narcissists, they think no one else can do a better job then they can. Especially people lower on the ladder. They know YOU are going to fuck up so they help but try to stop it before it happens.

They actually make the worst business people. Many might start up an office but they cant let go and give other people the power and responsibility to make decisions without their approval. They cant fathom letting someone make a decision they wouldn't agree with. They must be involved in every aspect at every level. You can only get so big as a company if have to be involved in every decision. 10 to 20 people max before they get overwhelmed by their own behavior.

I told my boss not to ever promote me because I'm a micromanager (I know this from a past job). I dont trust anyone's work but my own. I know its arrogant to think this way but I cant help myself.
