I find Alice Walton fascinating and expected her to be a DL fave, but it seems she's just barely been mentioned here. She's worth $45 billion dollars, 69 years old, single and recently built a multi billion dollar museum on the grounds of her parents' Arkansas estate. She wanted some of the finest art to be available for viewing to the people of Arkansas as it was not to her. She's had multiple DUIs. She drives an F-150 as her primary vehicle and for decades was very involved in some obscure horse sport called "cutting". She founded and ran a bank that closed or failed. She was married for a very short time to a man she met when she hired him to install a pool at her home. She smokes. She said "I'm Alice Walton, bitch!" to the arresting officer during her second DUI in 1998.
Before she sold her ranch she was the "Richest Texan" Sounds impressive.

I would love to see that museum but spend my time in the West and it’s so far and other than trying to snap up Miss Alice there’s not much there.

She is worth 45 BILLION. That BETTER be one hell of a museum. Building the museum allows her to not pay taxes on her art collection's appreciation.
Just remember, This fucking bitch, together with Jeff Bezos represents the undoing, the decimation of the American middle class. Hope she rots in hell.

Because of her cane, c pap machine and gal pal, I guess r11. But yeah, not for what walmart has done to this country.

[quote]for decades was very involved in some obscure horse sport called "cutting".
Honey, what do you want to know about cutting horses? You get a smart little horse who can “cut” a cow out of a group of cattle (a necessity for branding, gelding, etc. a herd). So it has real-life roots but now they do it as a competition too.
MAN, I miss Texas. Seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 31, 2019 6:55 AM |
Funny thing is, she looks like a poor Floridian who HAS to shop at Wal-Mart and takes the bus.

OP here. She's eccentric, enough said. If it'll make you happy Wal-Mart quietly announced the closure of 10 stores this week. There have been many others, Sams Club too. Their future may not be too bright.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 31, 2019 6:58 AM |
I made a trip to Arkansas to visit the museum last year. It is an incredible building and sounds like an incredible collection but it is a bit odd. The focus is exclusively American artists but she collected expensive but not popular paintings by the artists. For example, rather than collecting one of the landmark paintings by Edward Hopper or Paul Cadmus she purchased their self-portrait instead. It was an interesting collection but not one you would travel to see more than once.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 31, 2019 7:08 AM |
Why are you signing your post "living on $2.5 M in Connecticut"? is that what you are living on? How is that relevant? Also, who fucking cares if those scumbags lose some stores.

[quote]She returned her college diploma when it later came out that her roommate had been paid $20K to do her homework.
That was her much younger cousin Paige Laurie, granddaughter of Sam Walton's brother Bud. It happened at (surprise) USC. Today she owns a chain of fancy grocery stores in West LA and Malibu.

I want to know how much she spent on art that glamorizes smoking in a failed effort to quit. She didn't buy anything cheap. If I could afford to attempt to quit smoking like this I would absolutely be down.
From Wikipedia:
Walton's attempt to quit smoking led to the purchase of a painting reminiscent of an earlier painting by John Singer Sargent by Alfred Maurer which depicts a full-length woman smoking.[26] The second painting was by Tom Wesselmann is titled "Smoker #9[27]," and depicts a hyper realistic, disembodied hand and mouth smoking a cigarette.[28]

Yes, she did, because the world is cheap to her. She has $49 Billion dollars. $10K is inconsequential and a drop in the bucket. Heck, she probably makes $10K in interest every 5 minutes.

I don’t think she is a lesbain; married twice. As has been said, the second one to the ‘help’. I doubt that would have gone down well with the family so it’s not a great ‘merkin’, is it? She has had some plastic surgery and a style makeover a couple of years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 31, 2019 8:38 AM |

r40 Yeah she's no Diane Keaton lesbian. She probably just looks like a lesbian on paper.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 31, 2019 8:58 AM |
But if she is a lesbian, she needs to date Fran Lebowitz. Fran would make Alice feel sophisticated and ingratiated into New York society as she hasn't really been. Fran would have no qualms about Walmart as there are no Walmarts in Manhattan. Out of sight, out of mind. Alice has a fabulous duplex apartment on Park Avenue where Fran can smoke till she croaks. As a consolation for Fran having to occasionally venture to Arkansas or Texas she can enjoy the fact that some bars and even some restaurants still allow smoking.

3 DUIs under her belt, Alice looks composed or as some say, "she's functioning", while Goldie... doesn't. It's not just the photo. Goldie looks obliterated in every photo from the event.

A big chunk of her money is the value of her Walmart stock? Or does she have 45 billion in diversified investments?
The ONLY thing this cunt should do is turn her wealth over to Walmart workers so they approach living wage and financial security, like autoworkers once could, decades ago.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 2, 2019 10:11 PM |
Maybe if Americans really understood just how much money one billion dollars is, we could begin to have real tax reform. Consider one billion in a different unit of measurement:
One million seconds = 11 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes, 40 seconds.
One billion seconds = 31 GODDAMN YEARS, 251 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes, 55 seconds.
Alice Walton $45 billion; Jeff Bezos $137 billion—will it ever be enough?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 2, 2019 10:21 PM |
Her billions are blood money. Walmart is the largest private employer in the USA and its retail employees are not paid a living wage and subsist on food stamps and medicaid. Because Walmart has been successful in undercutting its small mom and pop competition, its employees don't have the option of finding another job. BFD, she built a museum and is reaping huge tax benefits and positive PR. She deserves the same room in hell as the Koch brothers and the Sacklers and the Trumps.

Just because she may be a lesbian doesn't make her an ally. Viz. Mary Cheney and so many anti lgbtq Republicans in Congress who get busted in bathrooms. Who cares?

Is it technically correct to refer to his wife as an "heiress?"
True, she is his heir, having inherited some of his money. But, I'd consider his daughters (and a couple nieces who inherited) heiresses.
She's more the dowager, than an heiress, no?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 3, 2019 12:27 AM |
A lot of average schmo's became millionaires when Walmart went public. All people who worked at the company early on. Here in CA Walmart people make $15 an hour and have health insurance. And they hire mostly people that other businesses won't hire. I'm not a super fan, but I'm not a hater on principal either. Walmart is also the largest single buyer of organic goods in the US. I've had clients who have sold to them. The trick is to be innovative, because after a year or two, if your product is good they will copy it. So you have to innovate again, and keep them on their toes.

R68, I think you've confused Walmart with Costco. Costco, unlike Walmart, pays its people well, provides great benefits, and bonuses, and is the United State's single largest retailer of organic produce, including meat. In fact, Costco is buying their own organic farms to help meet their demand, plus providing financing for expansion to organic farmers with whom they have contracts.
