I'm normally not a fan of armchair psychology, but a while back on one of DL's myriad Jacko threads, a DLer postulated that Lisa Marie saw her own father in MJ (extraordinarily wealthy and successful at one point, rabid fanbase, washed-up towards the end, deeply troubled on a personal level) and wanted to "rescue" him the way she couldn't rescue her own father. The reason why I believe that one is because I've seen firsthand how much it affects a person to lose their father between the ages of 6-16 or so.

If you see Lisa-Marie interviewed about MJ she seems to have had a genuine fondness for him in her own bizarre way so I agree she did love him by her own standards. It’s possible that she loved the concept of them as a couple more than MJ himself. I am not sure she knew him very well despite being married to him.
