I Rent A House
and I have these random guys here from a survey company-out off the blue-
I go out there and they say the owner has them surveying "the septic system"
Septic has been fine...
They (land lords) do plan on living here in 2 years when they retire.
Do I need to be looking for a place now?

Its kind of weird and random, and I don't even want to know. And I knew it was weird when they didn't make me sign a lease this year.
I don't want to know the answer.

Yeh, you will be forced out soon - no way they'd look TWO years in advance at the septic. They are planning on a move sooner than you thought. Seriously, start looking elsewhere.

Yet you ask here.

Well I just read that after the cold winter, a septic inspection/surveying is advisable. I have been here for a few years.
They are" new money" and inherited this place from a rich Uncle.
I will check with them later. I have so many worried right now that this was the last thing I wanted to deal with-
OH WELL!

Perfectly natural that you'd want to know what's going on.
Let is know what they say.
Good luck!

I wonder if you ask if they'll actually tell you.
What state are you in?
If they're being sneaky and not telling you ---- squat! Make their lives hell!

If you have had a good relationship with the (new) owners there should be no reason why they would not want you to have as much advance notice as possible. The only reason I can think they'd spring an eviction on you is if they are so cheap they want to be sure you don't move month/s before they are ready to move in. It is dumb not to ASK.

Maybe you should read your lease agreement.

No R9, they are actually extremely nice people. And at this point, I don't even care. I am starting to look for another place as maybe the universe is sending me a sign.
I will reach out to them this weekend-

You're upset with the landlords doing preventative maintenance? They've told you their plans. You know your days renting this house are numbered. Do you have any idea how much it would cost the landlords to clean up a septic system malfunction (not to mention, how much they'd end up paying you for your inconvenience and loss)?
As a landlord myself, if always mystifies me when I try to do the right thing by a tenant and they spit in my face. We're not all bad guys out to screw you. I know there are lots of landlords who are assholes, but they are truthfully few in the overall scheme of rental situations. Yes, I know it's inconvenient to have inspectors or repairmen or maintenance people show up unannounced, but really... how much of a hassle was it to look out the window at a couple of guys checking over the system? I have a clause in my leases that state I or my representatives can present and inspect without notification, with the provision that if possible (i.e., not an emergency), I will give the tenant notice, but that they are prohibited from preventing or hindering any work that I deem necessary to protect my assets, particularly if there is no entrance to the premises required.

I would never complain about random men showing up at my house.

R13- Truly, go fuck yourself.
I understand and agree with everything you said from an investment standpoint. Your imperious tone is hilarious- even for a Land Barron like yourself.
Since you landlords are all about YOUR income and protection, would a simple text hurt them to send me?
I am a dream tenant, frankly. And that's why they chose me to live here. It is a seacoast area and rentals are at a bare minimum.
And yes, the expectations were set from the start- but I figured I had another 6 months to a year to start looking (And I plan to buy a house)

I totally understand OP having been in your situation and had a greedy landlord who gave the bare minimum notice and viewings starting the very next day for buyers. So it certainly doesn’t hurt to begin looking. All the best

And oh dear, Land Baron . Not Barron.

If you didn’t sign a lease (and they asked that you didn’t) you are on a month to month basis. Your days are probably numbered. Just ask the landlords if they plan on moving in earlier (or perhaps they are getting ready to sell the house) so you can prepare to move if need be. Seriously you had to ask DL?

If you don't have a lease, you're not protected. So-called nice people screw over others every day, so don't assume they're being up front with you just because you think they're "nice."

If you have no lease you are considered on a month to month lease...I would start looking

Truly, my landlords are genuinely kind people, they would not fuck me over. They would at the very least warn me with some notice. (For real, they are from this area and know how difficult it is is to find rentals or to even buy a home)
But these motherfuckers ARE STILL HERE 4 hours later.
I always predicted that they would either tear this glorified cottage down or at the very least add on to it.
I think that they are going to do a full tear down. This looks like way more than a septic survey..

Guys they are taking surveying photographs from each and every angle from the farthest corners to the farthest corners-
They are tearing this place DOWWWWNNNNNNNNN. (I did ask one of the men, and he said septic, but I am not buying it)
I am a little sad. I have loved it here.
Onward and upward. Although I have noticed a trend in my own downward mobility in the last 5-6 years!

Where do you live, OP?
(not exact address, obviously)

The northeast in a really pretty town Massachusetts adjacent.
Im a little depressed now. I will miss it.

Spoke with these nice guys- something about going from a septic to the town line. There is all this conservation and environmental stuff here I guess, that its why it is so thorough.
I learned a bunch of things today though!!!
If I had more time, I would do a Jerri Blank at the end of a Strangers With Candy episode!!
But in summation, I really do need to finally buy a house.
