Will The MSM Cause Democrats To Lose And Get Trump Re-Elected?

It helped him win in 2016. The media has yet to accept its full culpability in getting Trump elected.

Now... it's all about the horse race. It seems that the media rarely, if ever, asks a Democrat candidate about their policy positions, how they will pay for an initiative, or even questioning the viability of the candidate's initiative. But, haven't the media been quick to accept the baseless Republican charges that Democrats are socialists, or that they hate Jews, or simply concentrate upon fundraising and crowd sizes? The MSM seems as if it will never push back on Republicans. And yet, it is pushing Democrats to impeach and whatever else.

Will Democrats allow themselves to lose this VERY important race because of the media?

No, it's the idiot candidates from the coasts who don't understand that reparations and socialism platforms will guarantee Trump another four years.

by Anonymousreply 1March 12, 2019 9:32 PM

I'm a Canadian. First of all, what does MSM mean?

by Anonymousreply 2March 12, 2019 9:33 PM

MSM=Mainstream Media, R2.

Ex: CNN; NYT; ABCNews; MSNBC; et alia

by Anonymousreply 3March 12, 2019 9:34 PM

MSM? Methylsulfonylmethane?

by Anonymousreply 4March 12, 2019 9:36 PM

Bernie resonates because he is addressing what the American citizen wants to hear, talk about, and addressed with solutions.

He talks minimum wage, healthcare, education, etc. It's all well and good. But, he never talks about how he will pay for this. Nor, is he really challenged about it. BUT, his crowd sizes are larger and he is raising the most money. That's what is important to the media.

Meanwhile, the Republican machinery is all over the internet planting this and/or that, hampering citizen's ability to vote, etc. The media rarely reports on this or remain constant in reporting it.

by Anonymousreply 5March 12, 2019 9:39 PM

R1 if you're going to troll, do it correctly. Socialism is a noun, not an adjective. It cannot modify platforms.

Try some of that libtard education.

by Anonymousreply 6March 12, 2019 9:39 PM

We will blame the media and Russian bots, yes.

But the blame will be our own. Tons of whiny baby Dems will stay home or vote 3rd party again when their own candidate doesn't get the nomination (looking at you, BernBros), and Trump will waltz into a 2nd term.

We didn't learn our lesson in 2000, and it's not likely we've learned our lesson from 2016 either.

by Anonymousreply 7March 12, 2019 9:43 PM

The media attacks the Latina gal, Alexandria Spanish Spanish Spanish something, about her New Green Deal. They give Republicans airtime to berate the Deal. Has anyone heard the media ask any Republican about what is their solution(s) for climate change?

by Anonymousreply 8March 12, 2019 9:44 PM

We're not allowed to ask Bernie tough questions.

Notice how r3 doesn’t include Faux. This thread is alt-right wankbait you’re all morons for falling for it.

by Anonymousreply 10March 12, 2019 9:48 PM

FOX isn't MSM, R10. It's not even news.

by Anonymousreply 11March 12, 2019 9:49 PM

[quote]We're not allowed to ask Bernie tough questions.

I don't believe in conspiracies but I'm starting to believe that Bernie is a Republican plant--work with me here... The guy has been going on about the same things for DECADES. What is his track record for getting them done and/or just moving closer to those goals?

I'm not looking to bash Bernie, but it is because of him that Republicans are able to swoop in with calm and soothing voices that give reasons and rationale of why we can't do xyz because of the costs. When you ask Bernie how much it costs, or how it will be paid for, you don't get an answer. So, how do you vote for that?

by Anonymousreply 12March 12, 2019 9:55 PM

If there's a good candidate who can inspire enough people to vote for him, he/she will win.

But there's no solution to Republicans obstructing him or her at every turn and refusing to work for them once their elected. As long as there's no accountability for their behavior, you're going to continue to have that problem. But hey, don't you dare suggest not capitulating.

by Anonymousreply 13March 12, 2019 9:59 PM

He didn't get elected the first time -- he stole an office for which he is completely unfit and totally unqualified. He certainly wot be elected in 2020. The three states that gave him his Electoral College victory are not likely to repeat that mistake. His margins were razor thin in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. All three now have Democratic governors. And the results of the 2018 mid-terms make a tRump win in all of them very unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 14March 12, 2019 10:04 PM

Mainstream Media = Right-Wing Propaganda label

OP = Partisan Republican = "Attacking Trump or disobeying him will cost you the election"

Just like "Howard Dean or Obama will cost you the election."

Don't fall for the F.U.D., folks. Don't fall for the Karl Rove / Steve Bannon / Vlad Putin Reverse Psych Ops.

Be liberal, fight for just, liberal positions and ENFORCE THE LAW on Republican officials for a change.

#CrookedDonald #LockHimUp!

by Anonymousreply 15March 12, 2019 10:20 PM

OP and his minions on DL are still trying to come up with reasons other than "she was a lousy candidate" for 2016.

Here's the deal OP: the game has changed.

And it's a game and the rules are pretty clear (kind of like the rules that say "whoever wins the Electoral College vote gets to be president."

It's a lot like reality TV: the candidate who says the most outrageous things gets the most air time.

Because you need something to fill that 24-hour news cycle.

Because you need something that's going to get the folks on Twitter all riled up.

Because you need bigger ratings and more ad dollars to survive.

So whoever our nominee is, they need to be able to play that game. They can't put up boring ass powerpoints on websites and say "maybe" a lot.

They need to own the news cycle.

You may not like this new game or the rules, but you don't really have a choice.

by Anonymousreply 16March 12, 2019 10:26 PM

While I was at one time a registered Republican R15, I am no longer and haven't been for quite some time. Also, voting from Trump was never an option for me. Not only am I from NYC and know about him and the family, I have worked with him and his team in the past. I'm not surprised about anything that is happening right now.

by Anonymousreply 17March 12, 2019 10:27 PM

Oh, R15. I'm the OP

by Anonymousreply 18March 12, 2019 10:28 PM

If he gets reelected, the MSM will be complicit, just as they were the last time. They will continue to normalize him and lower the bar for him while they attack Democrats for every little thing, real or imaginary.

by Anonymousreply 19March 12, 2019 10:36 PM

He knew how to play the media. She did not.

He is evil, but he is rarely off brand.

Even today, whining about the Greenpeace-guy-who-actually-isn't-a-Greenpeace-guy -- totally on brand and the Deps eat it up-- he even attributes it to their favorite news source, Fox.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 20March 12, 2019 10:39 PM

Even more on brand--

"airplanes are too complex to fly"

"old and simpler is far better."

Technology-hating older Deps eat this up like it's vanilla ice cream. They just want to go back to the past when Murica was great and Trump can take them there.

Point of R20 and R21 being we need someone who can stir up our supporters the way Twitler can stir up his. Someone who gets that politics is now a TV show, not a collegial debate exercise and run with it. Someone who gets social media and how to stay on brand, how to use certain phrases and memes to rally the troops.

Of everyone out there, Beto seems most likely to be able to do this. But we've got a year for the others to catch up.

by Anonymousreply 22March 12, 2019 10:44 PM

[quote] The MSM seems as if it will never push back on Republicans.

It's a ludicrous question. Media is 90-95% against Trump. It seems as if OP is living in an alternate reality where he only watches Joy Reid and reads "woke" Twitter celebs.

by Anonymousreply 23March 12, 2019 10:48 PM

[quote] Media is 90-95% against Trump

While that is true.... NOW! It wasn't always like that. In my opinion, the MSM was much harsher on Clinton than Trump. Now, it seems (to me, anyway) that the MSM is being much harsher on Democrats than Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 24March 12, 2019 10:57 PM

Here's the perfect example:

Chris Matthews is now yelling at a Democratic Congresswoman because she isn't ready for impeachment. The media wants impeachment. I think Miss Nancy made the right decision! Whats the sense of impeaching when you won't have the needed votes to remove him from office? I like how Democrats are talking about the legislation that they are passing. But, the media doesn't want to talk much about that. There has to be more effective ways to get the message out.

Trump is failing and falling. An indisputable case for impeachment will be able to be made soon.

by Anonymousreply 25March 13, 2019 12:34 AM

We’ll see. DL already says they won’t vote for Bernie when he gets the nomination, so.

by Anonymousreply 26March 13, 2019 12:46 AM

The Times will do its whataboutism and moral equivalency shtick and the rest with follow. They'll blow up a story ride near election day that drags the Dem down. Again. It'll make it much closer and scarier than it has to be.

They want a free press but they do everything they reasonably can to prop up a man who wants to destroy democracy and a free press. Because they fear bring seen as biased and because they want to stir up drama.

by Anonymousreply 27March 13, 2019 1:05 AM

It's the public's fault. They ate it up and they still eat it up. We haven't learned from history. Too many people are just gleefully stupid, love the drama of it all or post the shit for social media attention. Ex = OP. The lowlifes have really been coming out of the woodwork lately. We need to count on the good, level headed people actually voting. I know they outnumber the deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 28March 13, 2019 1:07 AM

I LOVE HOW THE DEMOCRATS ARE STAYING ON MESSAGE!!! TELL US WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

Miss Nancy is good! All these news pundits want to talk about impeachment and the Dems are not taking the bait!

by Anonymousreply 29March 13, 2019 1:08 AM

Remember what happened the last time the Nazi Propaganda Troll told us that Democrats would lose if they fought against corruption and demanded what we need?

REJECT THE PSY OPS, PEOPLE.

by Anonymousreply 31March 13, 2019 1:13 AM

The MSM should be asking Republicans why they are not moving towards impeachment given the nonsense they wanted to impeach President Obama with.

Watch Cooper interview AOC

by Anonymousreply 35March 13, 2019 1:43 AM

Yes OP they will. The mainstream media is more repulsive than fox news because of their pretend neutrality. The DC media was a deciding factor in turning Bill Clintons BJ into a national scandal. They hated the Clinton's from day one and now saw their chance to strike. During the 2000 election the DC media spent all their energy booing and hissing Al Gore. He was an easy target in their eyes (as well as a former member of the Clinton administration )and making fun of him always earned brownie points. For example, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote lie after uncorrected lie about him that became cemented as fact in many people's eyes. Later she did the same with John Kerry. After the catastrophe of the Iraq War (which the mainstream media also helped push ) many in the political media tried to rewrite history . 16 years later journalists such as Chris Cilizza, Chris Matthews, Chuck Todd, Mark Halperin, Maureen Dowd and Maggie Haberman and numerous other NYT editors again spent all their energy shrieking at the Clinton's. While Trump colluded with Russia, the mainstream media instead focused their ire on the dastardly Clinton's. They clutched their pearls over the possibility of Bill back in the White House, they howled over Chelsea's speeches for the Clinton foundation, and of course there was the never ending e mail obsession. Trump, in contrast was treated as a harmless amusement fit to host SNL. Now the media is again crying crocodile tears over their involvement. Political reporters are like the unpopular bullies desperate to gain approval from the so jocks. If ripping apart a dem gets them a pat on the head from the repubs they will do it. And they love right wing scumbags, for years they pushed John McCain and Newt Gingrich as "great men ".

[quote] where he only watches Joy Reid

Everyone who's anyone watches Joy Reid. She's the soul of this country. Who doesn't love her?

by Anonymousreply 37March 13, 2019 2:26 AM

[quote] Who doesn't love her?

I don't. She needs better quality wigs. Also, on top of that (and that's pretty hard to top), she's too "rabid attack mode" for me. If you are a Republican you are already a pos before you walk onto the set. I prefer to see attacks executed with more finesse.

by Anonymousreply 38March 13, 2019 2:35 AM

[quote]New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd

She REALLY has an unhealthy obsession with them. With her, it's personal. I don't know what the Clintons did to this woman but she is determined to have her revenge.

by Anonymousreply 39March 13, 2019 2:39 AM

Putting various things aside, the horserace focus on elections is horseshit. And coverage, all the false equivalence can feel like the political equivalence of deciding that going 32 mph in a 30 zone and beating puppies with a crowbar deserve the same scrutiny and condemnation.

And I entirely agreed with Michelle Wolf when she noted how much trump getting elected was something that served the big media outlets' best financial interests. I mean, big cut in the corporate tax rate, big tax cuts for executives and high-level employees and he's a never-ending trainwreck, which attracts far more attention than relatively boring, scandal-free competent governance.

by Anonymousreply 40March 13, 2019 2:59 AM

R39 Yeah , Maureen's obsession spans decades. She was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for her cutesy ramblings about Monica's sluttiness, Hilary's bitchiness, and how they all relate to Bill's penis. That tells you all you need to know about the Pulitzer. She has a pathological hatred and resentment primarily towards the Clinton's but also towards various dems like Al Gore and of course the dems wives. Her shtick is that all democratic men are pussies, who are really women. And all democratic women are raging psychos, who are really men. She reached self parody a couple years ago where she somehow managed to connect Robin Williams suicide with Hilary Clinton. She is a deranged and deeply hate-filled woman.

by Anonymousreply 41March 13, 2019 3:07 AM

I have a sneaky suspicion that they are already looking for a new version of "Hilary's e mails " something mundane to obsess over at the expense of bigger issues. Then again, the msm has always had a unique resentment and anger towards Hilary and Bill Clinton so maybe not. They will certainly hold democrats to higher standards though. These fuckwad reporters always do.

by Anonymousreply 42March 14, 2019 1:17 AM

The 24 hour news cycle needs to be fed

Trump knows this and he feeds it.

Hillary ignored it and it ate her alive.

We need someone who knows how to work the system.

Whatever you think of AOC's politics, she's brilliant at playing the system.

Beto seems to have a knack for it too.
