Dillon isn’t some amazing thespian but he would act circles around Schoeffling.

Matt Dillon was already an established movie star by the time 16 Candles came out in 1984.

Dillon was still fresh in 1984, and had first dibs on good roles. Schoeffling never stood a chance. His lane was modeling and he should have remained and thrived there.

I'm surprised people haven't asked Sixteen Candles to be banned. It's so politically incorrect - the Asian character, Jake allowing his drunk passed out girlfriend to be taken home by a stranger (and we're STILL supposed to root for him and Sam??) and they have sex (though she's drunk), the sister being completely drugged out at her own wedding. The whole movie seems to be about women not being able to consent (sex, wedding).

Not long after Schoeffling would land the role of Jake Ryan, which would bring him stardom internationally (as is still relevant to this day).

He didn’t seek it out. It came to him and he took advantage of it and saved up as much money as he could.

The guest turns out to be gay and thinks Louden was trying to initiate something. They practice the moves and the guest grabs his crotch. Louden is shocked, he just walks away and brushes it off. Kuch (Schoeffling) seems to have a bit of a crush on Louden and they ride together a lot on a motorcycle. The idea of Schoeffling and Modine getting it on is very hot as both were sexy.
