Jan-Michael Vincent died back on February 10 after suffering a cardiac arrest while a patient at a North Carolina hospital.
Damn. His was truly a cautionary tale.

I didn't realize he alcoholism goes way back. He's had so many car accidents, it's a miracle he even lived this long.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 8, 2019 4:27 PM |
He used to be really hot back when he was in Big Wednesday. I've never seen anyone decline as bad as he has.

Wow. Another death that slipped by me. On another thread a few weeks back, I had no clue Roger Moore had died.

A cautionary tale of living a life of excess, with alcohol and drugs. Even Jan- Michael who arguably was the most beautiful man in entertainment had unenviable physical conditions during his last 20 years of life.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 8, 2019 9:22 PM |
Cautionary tale all right. Never have I seen such beauty go to waste so quickly.

by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 8, 2019 9:25 PM |
I first saw him in the "Winds of War" miniseries and couldn't take my eyes off him.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 8, 2019 9:28 PM |
I know someone who met him at a autograph signing last year and they said it was sad. JMV was nearly blind and could barely sign, basically just sign his own name and he required a lot of assistance from his female companion.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 8, 2019 9:29 PM |
You should rent some of his stuff prior to that R35. He had already aged quite a bit even by 1983. Cigs, drugs...basically slow suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 8, 2019 9:34 PM |
I saw a video of him at an autograph signing and he was queeny as hell, it was an even bigger turn-off than his decrepit exterior.

From Wiki: Vincent was finishing a tour of duty in the California Army National Guard when a talent scout was struck by his looks. His first acting job was in the movie The Bandits (aka Los Bandidos), co-directed by and starring Robert Conrad, in 1967.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 8, 2019 11:08 PM |
Vincent's career took off in the late 1960s when casting agent Dick Clayton signed him to Universal Studios. Clayton represented James Dean. Discovered Tab Hunter. Also repped Burt Reynolds.

The Mechanic (1972) was an amazing movie. He is so charismatic and handsome in it. His 1992 car accident was bad, but it was his 1996 car accident where he broke his neck. He lived 23 years after that so that’s pretty good. Lucky he didn’t kill anyone with his reckless driving.

When I was a young gayling in the 60's (yes I'm an artifact) the to most sought after rent boys in Malibu were Jan Michael Vincent and Don Johnson. At Malibu parties they were passed around like whore d'oeuvres.

Oh, my 70s memories are so mixed up. I had a crush on Vincent after I saw him in this. All these years later, I thought the movie was Summer of My German Soldier with Kristie McNichol (not Glynnis O'Connor). Both were made for TV around the same time.

R59, Dick Clayton? That says it all.
And tell us more R68 so we believe you.

We shared 7/15 as a birthday so I always figured we were cosmic twins while I lusted for his body. He was the embodiment of the California surfer boy archetype. But they're wrong when they say he started using heavily after Air Wolf. IIRC they had to cancel it after 3 seasons because he was too fucked up to say lines ... not sure about that but he was using way before during and after the show. There was also a tragedy on the set when his stunt double burned to death in a helicopter crash.

R104 That's him. I suppose he might have gotten a prostatic leg, notice how strange the one looks. I never met him, an online friend did. Here's another picture of him signing that day he posted.

Yes, R99....the guy on the right is William Katt, who played Tommy in CARRIE, and was t.v.'s GREATEST AMERICAN HERO. He's aging a lot better than JMV & Busey have. Granted, he is six years younger. But still...he looks a hell of a lot better at 68 than JMV or Busey did at 68. (recent photo with his GAH stunt-double)

by Anonymous | reply 125 | March 9, 2019 12:41 PM |
I am convinced, and I have argued about it on DL, that showing it all in B&B destroyed his career. Mainstream actors panicked at such a thought and didn't want to be under any sort of pressure to do likewise. Like an epidemic to be nipped dearly in the bud. There have been numerous replies on DL that it made absolutely no difference. Bullshit! It makes all the difference. I think it was Page Six that said Charlie Hunnan turned down an extra million to show it all in one of the Fifty Shades sequels. Yes, it was a career .killer for the stunning JMV.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 9, 2019 4:55 PM |
Booze and drugs were the career killer of him.
B&B was made in 1974. He had numerous roles after that.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 9, 2019 6:52 PM |
The vast majority of his roles, as a matter of fact...
by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 9, 2019 6:58 PM |
R124 yes that's Katt. His parents were actors Bill Williams and Barbara " Della Street" Hale. I have a hunch that he grew up in a nurturing home.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | March 9, 2019 9:13 PM |
Richard Gete showed it all and didn’t hurt him. Christian Bale. Ewan McGregor. Virgo. Sam Rockwell. Even Luke Perry at the time of his death he had two series and a part in a Quentin Taerntino movie.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 9, 2019 9:28 PM |
Come, come, if male frontal nudity is so inconsequential in the movies, why are so many actors terrified of doing it? This eldergay sat through countless decades of going to an R rated with false hope and getting stuck with pussy while the leading man debates taking off his tie. The impact of a gorgeous actor showing it all was both earth shattering and frightening for a lot of people. Some old book about male nudity said that the Playboy issue of Sex in Cinema that showed the pic of JMV in B&B broke sales records.

R121, I'm guessing William Katt is on the left in R120's photo (guy with white hair and glasses).
Big Wednesday came out in 1978 and starred (L to R) Gary Busey, Jan-Michael Vincent, and William Katt.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 9, 2019 11:07 PM |
Sorry, you were so confused, R121. My reply to R99 was in reference to the photo at R98 (in which William Katt is on the right). I just forgot actually write, "in R98's photo." (which is why an edit function would be helpful)
Obviously, in the (current) photo I posted, William Katt is on the left.

R133 nor have I.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 9, 2019 11:24 PM |
I think the only ones terrified of doing full frontal are the ones with small ones especially with those mean size queens haunting the intywho only penises they have seen are from porn actors. Most men have no problem whipping it out. It is agents and behind the scenes people who try to stop full nudity from men. Also there are a vast number of people even heterosexual women who think dicks are ugly.

It's too bad that JMV was such a bad alcoholic and woman-beater. He could have played menacing villains up until the end, especially with that clouded eye, stringy hair and false leg. He could have been an anglo version of Danny Trejo
