Jan-Michael Vincent died back on February 10 after suffering a cardiac arrest while a patient at a North Carolina hospital.

Damn. His was truly a cautionary tale.

No thanks "So so is DEAD to me Troll".

by Anonymousreply 3March 8, 2019 4:26 PM

I didn't realize he alcoholism goes way back. He's had so many car accidents, it's a miracle he even lived this long.

by Anonymousreply 4March 8, 2019 4:27 PM

He used to be really hot back when he was in Big Wednesday. I've never seen anyone decline as bad as he has.

by Anonymousreply 5March 8, 2019 4:29 PM

Wow. Another death that slipped by me. On another thread a few weeks back, I had no clue Roger Moore had died.

by Anonymousreply 7March 8, 2019 4:31 PM

Nah, we just found out about it today, R7. No one knew until now.

by Anonymousreply 8March 8, 2019 4:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 9March 8, 2019 4:39 PM

Thx R8. Sis it only now hit the news? Did they keep it quiet for a month plus?

by Anonymousreply 10March 8, 2019 4:39 PM

R10, if you take a look at the other thread, you might get a hint.

R16 that was Kurt Russell. Jan Michael was in The World's Greatest Athlete.

by Anonymousreply 17March 8, 2019 5:09 PM

I had a poster of him tacked to the back of my bathroom door. Such a sad fall from those days.

by Anonymousreply 18March 8, 2019 5:09 PM

He was like me only not good at the end

by Anonymousreply 19March 8, 2019 5:16 PM

He was in a quite good film about father/son conflict, Going Home, with Mitchum.

by Anonymousreply 20March 8, 2019 7:20 PM

Made 200 G per episode of Air Wolf.

by Anonymousreply 21March 8, 2019 7:34 PM

Calling all Jan Michael Vincents....

by Anonymousreply 22March 8, 2019 7:37 PM

It really is amazing he lived to be 74. And poor Luke Perry died at 52.

by Anonymousreply 23March 8, 2019 7:44 PM

Growing up I remember watching him in Tribe and Sandcastles. I loved Sandcastles as a kid, I thought it was so spooky.

by Anonymousreply 24March 8, 2019 7:45 PM

All these threads and no mention of BABY BLUE MARINE! He was at his peak then.

by Anonymousreply 25March 8, 2019 7:59 PM

He had a long life for living so hard!

by Anonymousreply 26March 8, 2019 8:03 PM

He was so dreamy back in the day.

I had such a crush on him, and also Ted Neely.

by Anonymousreply 29March 8, 2019 9:22 PM

A cautionary tale of living a life of excess, with alcohol and drugs. Even Jan- Michael who arguably was the most beautiful man in entertainment had unenviable physical conditions during his last 20 years of life.

by Anonymousreply 30March 8, 2019 9:22 PM

Cautionary tale all right. Never have I seen such beauty go to waste so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 31March 8, 2019 9:23 PM

I fell so hard for him in Buster & Billie.

by Anonymousreply 32March 8, 2019 9:24 PM

I always wonder how someone in their prime would react after being shown a photo how they’ll end up if they stay on their current path. Horrified, I’m sure.

by Anonymousreply 33March 8, 2019 9:24 PM

Weird that he died almost a month ago yet it wasn't reported until today.

by Anonymousreply 34March 8, 2019 9:25 PM

I first saw him in the "Winds of War" miniseries and couldn't take my eyes off him.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 35March 8, 2019 9:28 PM

I know someone who met him at a autograph signing last year and they said it was sad. JMV was nearly blind and could barely sign, basically just sign his own name and he required a lot of assistance from his female companion.

by Anonymousreply 36March 8, 2019 9:29 PM

You should rent some of his stuff prior to that R35. He had already aged quite a bit even by 1983. Cigs, drugs...basically slow suicide.

by Anonymousreply 37March 8, 2019 9:34 PM

I saw a video of him at an autograph signing and he was queeny as hell, it was an even bigger turn-off than his decrepit exterior.

by Anonymousreply 38March 8, 2019 9:47 PM

In that link they said he stomped his girlfriend’s puppies to death.

by Anonymousreply 39March 8, 2019 9:50 PM

But only because they ate his Lucky Charms!

by Anonymousreply 40March 8, 2019 9:53 PM

He clearly had some issues that he was running from. How did he get his first roles? Who did he have to 'audition' for?

by Anonymousreply 41March 8, 2019 9:54 PM

So much sun damage. Stay out of the sun guys!

by Anonymousreply 42March 8, 2019 10:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 49March 8, 2019 10:39 PM

Yea it's amazing he lived to be 74. Even though he was already dead for years. He was beautiful once. Addiction is a deadly disease.

by Anonymousreply 50March 8, 2019 10:43 PM

From Wiki: Vincent was finishing a tour of duty in the California Army National Guard when a talent scout was struck by his looks. His first acting job was in the movie The Bandits (aka Los Bandidos), co-directed by and starring Robert Conrad, in 1967.

by Anonymousreply 51March 8, 2019 11:08 PM

Vincent's career took off in the late 1960s when casting agent Dick Clayton signed him to Universal Studios. Clayton represented James Dean. Discovered Tab Hunter. Also repped Burt Reynolds.

by Anonymousreply 52March 8, 2019 11:14 PM

He's still alive, every website shows he's 74 and still kicking.

by Anonymousreply 53March 8, 2019 11:16 PM

I believe he was the first big star to do full frontal. Luke Perry also had an iconic full frontal. Don Johnson and Perry King you in danger , gurl.

by Anonymousreply 60March 8, 2019 11:34 PM

Even in the photos where he supposedly was still hot he looks drugged out and damaged. I wonder what his demons were.

by Anonymousreply 61March 8, 2019 11:35 PM

I saw in recently in a surprisingly good cast horror movie The Ice Cream Man starring the horrible Clint Howard. He still had his looks about 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 64March 8, 2019 11:41 PM

The Mechanic (1972) was an amazing movie. He is so charismatic and handsome in it. His 1992 car accident was bad, but it was his 1996 car accident where he broke his neck. He lived 23 years after that so that’s pretty good. Lucky he didn’t kill anyone with his reckless driving.

Oh, my 70s memories are so mixed up. I had a crush on Vincent after I saw him in this. All these years later, I thought the movie was Summer of My German Soldier with Kristie McNichol (not Glynnis O'Connor). Both were made for TV around the same time.

by Anonymousreply 80March 9, 2019 12:33 AM

We shared 7/15 as a birthday so I always figured we were cosmic twins while I lusted for his body. He was the embodiment of the California surfer boy archetype. But they're wrong when they say he started using heavily after Air Wolf. IIRC they had to cancel it after 3 seasons because he was too fucked up to say lines ... not sure about that but he was using way before during and after the show. There was also a tragedy on the set when his stunt double burned to death in a helicopter crash.

by Anonymousreply 125March 9, 2019 12:41 PM

I am convinced, and I have argued about it on DL, that showing it all in B&B destroyed his career. Mainstream actors panicked at such a thought and didn't want to be under any sort of pressure to do likewise. Like an epidemic to be nipped dearly in the bud. There have been numerous replies on DL that it made absolutely no difference. Bullshit! It makes all the difference. I think it was Page Six that said Charlie Hunnan turned down an extra million to show it all in one of the Fifty Shades sequels. Yes, it was a career .killer for the stunning JMV.

by Anonymousreply 126March 9, 2019 4:55 PM

Booze and drugs were the career killer of him.

B&B was made in 1974. He had numerous roles after that.

by Anonymousreply 127March 9, 2019 6:52 PM

The vast majority of his roles, as a matter of fact...

by Anonymousreply 128March 9, 2019 6:58 PM

R124 yes that's Katt. His parents were actors Bill Williams and Barbara " Della Street" Hale. I have a hunch that he grew up in a nurturing home.

by Anonymousreply 129March 9, 2019 9:13 PM

Richard Gete showed it all and didn’t hurt him. Christian Bale. Ewan McGregor. Virgo. Sam Rockwell. Even Luke Perry at the time of his death he had two series and a part in a Quentin Taerntino movie.

by Anonymousreply 130March 9, 2019 9:28 PM

Come, come, if male frontal nudity is so inconsequential in the movies, why are so many actors terrified of doing it? This eldergay sat through countless decades of going to an R rated with false hope and getting stuck with pussy while the leading man debates taking off his tie. The impact of a gorgeous actor showing it all was both earth shattering and frightening for a lot of people. Some old book about male nudity said that the Playboy issue of Sex in Cinema that showed the pic of JMV in B&B broke sales records.

by Anonymousreply 131March 9, 2019 9:52 PM

Come, come, if male frontal nudity is so inconsequential, why are so many actors terrified of doing it? For decades this Candide went to R-rateds with false hopes only to see loads of pussy and the leading man debate taking off his tie. I read in some history of male nudity in the movies that the Sex in . Cinema issue of Playboy that showed JMV in B&B broke sales records.

by Anonymousreply 133March 9, 2019 10:51 PM

R121, I'm guessing William Katt is on the left in R120's photo (guy with white hair and glasses).

Big Wednesday came out in 1978 and starred (L to R) Gary Busey, Jan-Michael Vincent, and William Katt.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 134March 9, 2019 11:07 PM

Sorry, you were so confused, R121. My reply to R99 was in reference to the photo at R98 (in which William Katt is on the right). I just forgot actually write, "in R98's photo." (which is why an edit function would be helpful)

Obviously, in the (current) photo I posted, William Katt is on the left.

by Anonymousreply 135March 9, 2019 11:18 PM

R133 nor have I.

by Anonymousreply 136March 9, 2019 11:24 PM

I think the only ones terrified of doing full frontal are the ones with small ones especially with those mean size queens haunting the intywho only penises they have seen are from porn actors. Most men have no problem whipping it out. It is agents and behind the scenes people who try to stop full nudity from men. Also there are a vast number of people even heterosexual women who think dicks are ugly.

by Anonymousreply 137March 9, 2019 11:35 PM

Looking at those deeply sun-tanned/burned torsos in R134.....I do sometimes wonder what it's like to have suburned nips. Seriously, how do you guys deal with that? I can't even imagine.....

by Anonymousreply 138March 10, 2019 11:37 AM

He's way before my time, and 74 is a damn good age considering how he lived.

That said, how could one be so beautiful and turn so ugly?

I've known addicts who keep their looks. But man, wow. He did not.

And of course RIP.

His looks suffered from sun damage, alcohol, and car accidents. Also, toward the end of his life he was in semi-poverty and probably couldn't afford all the medical care he needed. His hair was still pretty full, though, even at the end.

by Anonymousreply 148March 10, 2019 9:03 PM

It's too bad that JMV was such a bad alcoholic and woman-beater. He could have played menacing villains up until the end, especially with that clouded eye, stringy hair and false leg. He could have been an anglo version of Danny Trejo
