You’re right, it made sense for the role.

Aiden’s character Stuart was written as a very aggressive animalistic sex-addict type of lover (as compared with laconic Olympic sportfucker Brian Kinney...), and someone whose experience far outweighs them naive underage virgin Nathan (who Charlie was playing). This is why Stuart’s first physical overture to Nathan looks more like a feral dog-like bite at his face than a kiss. We’re supposed to be a little bit afraid for Nathan as much as pleased and excited.

The original British QAF did an excellent job of painting the relationship the two characters had in shades of grey - dubious because of the transgressive age/experience difference and the sometimes-predatory nature of Stuart, but also celebratory of the rawness of gay masculinity and culture for all that.
