Hush Puppies are a brand name, but I think the model that people associate with that term most commonly would be the Earl suede loafers from the sixties, like those at the link.

I thought those (the OP's) were called chukka boots. To me Hush Puppies referred to the material, not the shoe style. They came in oxfords, loafers, etc.
