I would guess she started using when she was a teenager in NYC in the early 60s. According to Stevie Phillips, Judy's short-term babysitter and Liza's long-time manager, Judy pretty much left her eldest daughter to fend for herself during Liza's struggling actress days. Of course, Judy couldn't take care of herself at that point, and Liza did pretty well: She got her first starring role at 17, and her first Tony at 19. Lorna admitted in her bio that she introduced Liza to cocaine in their 1970s party days, but it's unlikely that Liza had never tried drugs before, given her profession and lifestyle in the 1960s.
