Steve Schmidt is Dead to Me (though still alive)
This GO P never Trumper who brought us Sarah Paln spent two years on MSNBC decrying Trump & the GOP is now representing billionaire Harold Schultz in his effort to siphon votes from the Democratic Party & re-elect Trump. Schmidt is now railing about far leftist socialists running the Democratic Party
Bye, bitch

Really. I had to stop myself from throwing a shoe at his fat face on the t.v. Even Wallace seemed incredulous that he was going to step in another pile of dogshit and actually referenced PALIN as a reminder of how hard it was to get that shit off his shoes. He didn't take the hint and just filibustered all the ways Schultz was going to be the Messiah Billionaire that we need RIGHT, get it, now. Nothing he said about Schultz has been evident in his myriad t.v. appearances. Far from it. Another petulant, thin-skinned plutocrat who has some weird ideas for a Democrat. Even a centrist at that. Now he's NOT a Democrat. No one gives a fuck, chump. Frum, Boot, Schmidt, Steele, are backsliding and are showing their true allegiance when it looks like the Dems just might win in 2020. So far Rick Wilson has stayed true to the cause. But who knows how long that will last.

Not going to listen to one more word from old Steve. The one saving grace is that this guy is such a wet noodle he wouldn't win ONE primary. But like another Billionaire Narcissist he will still try and do damage to the Democrat because he couldn't buy his way into an office that he is not qualified to hold. That's the REPUBLICAN way.

I always hated how many gullible liberals started warming to him after he criticized Palin. Sure she's a dummy but he and Nicole Wallace were the one who chose her. I guarantee that if the media had responded more positively to Palin they would be falling all over themselves to take credit for "finding " her. These political types care about their career first and foremost, of course they are going to distance themselves from a losing prospect. Schmidt is a dead eyed right winger, just smart enough to recognize that Palin and Trump are losing prospects.

The book and movie game change by Mark halperin and Jon heileman were ridiculously sympathetic towards McCain, Wallace, and Schmidt. They were presented as hapless but fundamentally decent victims of Sarah Palins stupidity. In reality, they were venal and sleazy political types who took a chance and watched it backfire big-time. But then again, McCain was always favored by the media, who helped cover up many unsavory things about him and his wife Cindy. I dislike Palin but appreciate that she helped keep the right wing creep McCain away from the white house.

SS pushed for her in the beginning but wanted her vetted. She wasn't. It was wishful thinking on their parts that she was another 'maverick' who would save McCain's campaign because she hit all the right boxes. Nicolle was brought in to be a handler and to smooth out the rough edges and season her. She had no say in who was chosen McCain's V.P. running mate. That was McCain's decision but he wanted Lieberman and was talked out of it due to political considerations of what his base would accept. Initially she thought it was a smart choice but it didn't take long for all of them to realize that they had made a big mistake. Yet they still foisted that fake on America knowing that she wasn't fit to hold the office of Governor of Alaska let alone second in line to be president. I can't stand Megan McCain but I think for once she is right about Steve Schmidt.

Bill Burton working for Schultz shocks me way more than Schmidt. While I admit I loved some of Schmidt's silver tongued rants about Trump, I never once forgot who or what he was. In the end most of these political advisors are just hired guns willing to advocate for who will pay the most money.

The Democratic Party has tried desperately to be the center party for way too long and look what it got us. It's progressive, middle-class-friendly ideas that got the Dems the wins in the last midterms. Don't ruin it all by nominating a centrist.

Same here, r31. He wants to be a King maker but apparently learned nothing from the Palin disaster. No one among the Never Trumpers is better at articulating what is wrong with Trump psychologically or the many ways that he poses a threat to our democracy. He is able to reach the still sane Republicans who might have voted for DT but regret it bigly. Wilson is too snarky and takes everything personally and fighting Trump has been financially rewarding. The likes of Frum and Wills still love breathing that rarified air and Frum has begun to backslide. But for an incredibly smart guy SS appears blind to his own blind ambition. He wants to choose the Democrat that most resembles a centrist to right leaning Republican and in Schultz thinks he hit the jackpot. But like Palin, this guy has no bona fides to run for anything other than city council. Schmidt is deluding himself at best. Much is made about the benefits that Starbucks employees enjoy. They only give what they can afford to without cutting into that massive profit margin. 33,000 stores worldwide brings in a lot of moola. HS claims he no longer works for the company but 38 million stock shares guarantees that he has a A LOT of say about how that company is run. If you admire him then go and work for the company he founded on the backs of the many small business owners he put out of business. Leave the rest of us out of it.

McCain was a gambler and for that reason, was not suitable for the Presidency. He gambled on Palin, and lost. It was the first and biggest decision he was to make as presidential candidate, and he blew it. Likewise, when he “suspended his campaign” to focus on the economic collapse, when he actually had nothing to contribute to the issue. I liked hearing Obama say at the time that “sometimes Presidents have to do more than one thing at a time”. Haha, burn!

He’s right, though, about both parties running so far to the extreme they’ve lost any sense of working in the middle. The republicans are a useless dogpile of “I believe this white hood is mine, bitch!” The democrats are descending into “How dare you appropriate my cultural attachement to African cultural dance traditions of the 17th century!”.
In other words, the republicans sound like Fox News and the Democrats sound like HuffPost, maybe worse. Neither sounds like a party that can be trusted to lead a bake sale. Pretty sure if that bake sales started with $100 in the cash box, there’d be $30 at the end of the day and a lot of finger pointing how it wasn’t their fault.
It’s all shouting, tearing each other down and invective about how much the other is a piece of shit and won’t talk specifics while they are also a piece of shit who won’t talk specifics and hand-waves in vague generalizations what they’ll do and how awesome it’ll be if we become socialist or austrian school or go publicly funded health or market based solutions.
Yeah, I’m cynical. It’s all bullshit and it’s the same pandering bullshit since 1968 just nastier with fewer ideas. It’s the Super Sugar Crisps of pollitics instead of oatmeal. Gives you a big sugar rush to pretend you’re eating food, but it’s just a buzz and then the inevitable crash of failure and disapopintment. But, they’ve gotten your money from the non stop fund raising using their “OMG IT’S A PANIC!” emails.
None of these fucks will change the system. Considering what a bunch of carnies they are, they have zero incentive to change it. They just want to line their pockets with more money, profit and shake the money tree as hard as they can. Because they’re lawyers and politicians.

I just watched Game Change again. Could Sarah have been any worse than Trump as President? If Trump had any brains, he’d have chosen someone like Sarah for VP. Someone so bad, that he would be impeachment-proof.
Trump is certainly the stupidest, most fucked-up President we’ve ever had. I wonder how long it will take to recover from his term? I think it might take 8 years. It took Obama about 8 years to mitagate the damage Bush did, andObama wasn’t really finished when his term ended.

I don’t think it’s at all fair to compare Dems with the Republicans.
The Dems favor healthcare coverage for everyone so that no one need go bankrupt over medical costs, nor be unable to afford care. The Republicans want none of that.
The Dems favor laws and rules making it easier for people to vote. The Republicans want to restrict voting rights.
The Republicans want to privatize as much of government as possible. This includes Social Security, meaning you could lose it all, like how many people lost their savings in the last crash.
The Republicans wantto lower taxes on the wealthy, and raise them on the poor.
That’s for starters, but ought to be enough.

Spin used to be about putting your best foot forward. Today, it is the Republicans blatantly lying to the public.
Trump declares the intelligence chiefs as “taken out of context”, though you can listen to their testimony in context. I wonder if Trump just believes that? Or if he was just trying to change the subject?
I hope the first detailed books about what a fuckup he is, are published before he drops dead.

That’s why it was so upsetting to me that Obama promised that “you could keep your plan if you like it”. Because, if you mention the 8000 lies that Trump has told in two years, the Deplorables will cite this one statement by Obama as evidence that “both sides do it”.
You already can’t reference The NY Times or WaPo, or the Deplorables will interrupt with, “ohhhhhhhh, sure, fake news lalala I can’t hear you lalalala”.
The other things they like to say is “oh that’s just politics.”, though they usually can’t explain what that even means. Then they are fond of whataboutism and gaslighting.
My Deplorable brother just asked me what I though about my State Atty General, and I just told him that I didn’t care to discuss it with him. I didn’t say it’s because he’s in a cult and impervious to logic and reason. But that’s the case.

Wow. His rapid fire fall from grace as a respected and highly effective anti-Trumper due solely to his own hubris is stunning. Few people get to reinvent themselves in public life and he appeared to have atoned for the Palin debacle with his eloquent and honest assessment of Trump and the damage he is causing to this country. So it's a head scratcher as to why he would want to foist another intellectual light-weight, and unqualified, egoist to be a third party spoiler. And he would be just that. So shut up ! SM broad-sided Wallace by launching into a pitch for Schultz as a viable candidate for president and she looked gobsmacked. Asked him straight out if he had learned nothing from the Palin disaster. Judging from her brief conversation with Chuck Todd during the transition from her show to his, SM also had a salty outburst aimed at the two of them, but Todd seemed to get the worst of it. I wonder if he told him he was no longer needed at MSNBC. Oh, to be a fly on that wall!
