So no broken rib nor "brutal attack", all we've seen is a scratch on his face. Still no details about the rope or the "liquid". He was allegedly off-camera for aprox. 1 minute. He was reportedly on the phone with his manager during the attack but no call to 911, from him or from his manager. He went back to his friend's building, didn't say a thing to a security guard on his way there or something either. Then after calling the police he didn't want body cams and refused to turn over his phone. He'll have to talk to the media eventually, and a media availability event will be held tomorrow by the CPD (of course everyone will be there to ask about this case).

For sure, it wasn't an elaborate hoax. At most, it was a spontaneous hoax, which would still get him in a lot of trouble.

This was not a big-time hoax that was well planned. But it could have been a minor scuffle or slight that he embellished. So technically, it "happened." Maybe he got sick of being the target of death threats, and then someone on the street that night said something to him (f*ggt, n*ggr) or touched him in a way made him feel threatened, but did no real harm to his person or his sandwich. He goes into a rage when he gets home and reports an assault which he embellishes with details to make it clear that he's the suffering hero.

So something could have happened, and it's a horrible injustice, but only in his mind and not to anyone else who might have witnessed it, including the security cameras. That wouldn't make it okay or make the embellishment less criminal, but it would make it understandable. Maybe he didn't make it up from whole cloth. Maybe he used real sandwich wrappers.
