Ryan Phillipe and his son...

I think this is a weird photo. Make your judgement calls in the comments below.

I don’t follow

You're a sick fuck with daddy issues. You want a real weird dad/son picture,? here's one...

Everything that Phillippe posts can be described as weird in one way or another. But I agree that most photos he posts of his son have an element of “the male gaze.” Ryan himself is exceptional looking and I wonder if he sees his son the same way, but I certainly hope that he just looks at him through the nurturing view of a father. I follow RP on Instagram specifically because his posts are often whimsically weird and I do like looking at him, but some of the pictures he posts of his kid...I wish he didn’t. I wonder what Reese’s piece is.

by Anonymousreply 3January 28, 2019 12:26 PM

Did some of you have parents who hated you?

There's nothing wrong with this photo at all.

by Anonymousreply 4January 28, 2019 12:28 PM

They are in a big bean bag, kind of makes the body language automatically strange.

by Anonymousreply 5January 28, 2019 12:29 PM

Some you guys clearly have no relationship with your father. You turn innocent photographs into something wrong. Is that what is wrong with you? Your father hated you?

by Anonymousreply 6January 28, 2019 12:29 PM

It looks perfectly normal, very far from t Tom brady territory. Filth is in the eye of the beholder.... Meanwhile the poor thing inherited his mother's chin...

by Anonymousreply 7January 28, 2019 12:29 PM

This picture of his daughter also seems on the borderline of peculiar for a father to post. But let’s just say he has an artsy aesthetic and move on.

I still think it’s kind of amazing how some people look like clones of both their parents. I mean, I do get how the whole reproduction thing works, but sometimes the similarities are striking.

He is a normal, run-of-the-mill breathtakingly beautiful father.

by Anonymousreply 12January 28, 2019 12:35 PM

R10 I’ve just seen a few pictures in his IG stories (he posts a lot) that just felt like he was framing his kids in a very—I guess artsy—way. Nothing alarming. To be honest, most of the time I see any parent famous or not post a lot of photos of their kids, I think “I wish you wouldn’t” because it just seems ill advised.

by Anonymousreply 13January 28, 2019 12:39 PM

r13 You have issues...

by Anonymousreply 14January 28, 2019 12:40 PM

R14 It’s generally advisable to all parents not to post their kids’ photos online for security reasons. Many parents restrict photos of their kids.

I just looks like the son is thinking: 'I love you dad, but what are you doing in my space?'. At least the son is smiling. I don't get why Ryan doesn't he look happy in any of his pictures; if I looked like him, with the money, fame etc. I'd be smiling all the time.

by Anonymousreply 16January 28, 2019 12:44 PM

It’s probably challenging for adoring parents not to share their little gems with the world, but countless experts advise against it.

by Anonymousreply 18January 28, 2019 12:45 PM

No, it isn't "peculiar" R8. It's about the reflection on the table. He probably thought it looked cool. It actually reminded me of when Madonna did it in Vogue.

R13, Agreeing with R14. You have issues.

He is an arsty person because he is an actor so his photos look artsy. Have you ever seen Halle Berry's instagram? Everything I see on his looks pretty damn normal in comparison.

And posting photos of your kids, "famous or not" is the equivalent of parents "showing their work." They post them because they're proud. Plus, they tend to hang around them a lot.

Linking to an article saying it's not advisable to do so isn't going to stop him or Rebecca from HR from showing you.

by Anonymousreply 19January 28, 2019 12:46 PM

As long as they're not naked or in a sexual suggestive pose, I don't get why parents couldn't post picture of their children. If you see something wrong with perfectly innocent photos maybe the problem is with you

by Anonymousreply 20January 28, 2019 12:49 PM

R16 Ryan has always trued to put across a tough guy/thug persona. My theory is that he developed it to compensate for having such a beautiful face. Even at 50, he hasn’t given up the shirtless Jeep-driving hardbodied gang sign-throwing who-needs-clothes-in-the-snow-when-you’re-rock-hard-and-covered-in-tatts aesthetic. Through his lens, he seems to want to come across as a prison inmate.

R20 It’s for the kids’ security, not because there’s necessarily anything bad about the photos themselves.

by Anonymousreply 22January 28, 2019 12:50 PM

Damn that photo above is insane - what a body for a 50yr old. He needs a Marvel franchise.

by Anonymousreply 23January 28, 2019 12:51 PM

Cute dad with a cute son. I don't get what's weird, unless you're projecting something onto it.

by Anonymousreply 24January 28, 2019 12:54 PM

r24 Is just because they find him hot and he looks really young too, add to that a teenage boy and their minds instantly goes to daddy/twink, too much porn I guess. If the dad would've look like the image below or the kid or were younger, they wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

nobody cares about the daughter here, r8. do keep up.

by Anonymousreply 27January 28, 2019 1:10 PM

R26 I think many of us are just entrained to see intimacy between parents and children as potential red flags these days. The Tom Brady video polarized people who thought all the ingredients—Brady naked, getting a massage, making his son kiss him on the lips, and then again and for longer—raised a lot of hackles. I was alarmed when I saw it, but that doesn’t mean I concluded anything in particular. I later saw old video of Brady kissing his elderly father on the lips and it seemed more likely then that that family relates that way without it being sexual...but we are attuned to looking for signs of abuse today. My sister works for child protective services and some of her stories are so upsetting that they do make you want to err on the side of caution, for better sometimes and for worse sometimes.

These photos of Trump and Ivanka are cited often as creepy, and indeed when you google “donald ivanka creepy,” they turn up. Phillippe has a similar photo with his daughter on IG, neither creepier nor less creepy than Trump’s. However, Phillippe’s photos overall show nothing but a normal (well, astonishingly hot but otherwise normal) proud father, whereas in the full context of his comments and some other creepy body language with Ivanka, Donald Trump in my opinion raises very real questions about an inappropriate father/daughter dynamic. That doesn’t mean that he has done anything, either, necessarily. But it does mean that the public is bound to speculate. That shouldn’t surprise anyone.

I had a great relationship with my dad. But at a certain age, the type of cuddling between father and son, as shown in OP’s pic, becomes weird. Puberty is that point and it looks like the kid has hit that. I have no idea how old he is.

So yes, to me, the picture is a bit skeevy.

by Anonymousreply 39January 28, 2019 2:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 43January 28, 2019 2:16 PM

R39, Cuddling? He put his arm around him. You could do that with a good friend and it's fine.

And sorry, but my dad used to pick me up and put me on the first step of the bus when I was kid because I was short for my age. I asked him to stop doing it when kids made fun of me. If my mom took me, she'd give me a hug. I asked her to stop doing it when kids thought it was weird. Harmless shows of affection stop because other people think it's weird and they start thinking it's weird around when puberty hits.

However, that Tom Brady thing was weird as hell.

by Anonymousreply 44January 28, 2019 2:17 PM

FF blocked, OP.

by Anonymousreply 45January 28, 2019 2:18 PM

It's not a weird photo, OP. It's all in your head, and possibly because of the rise of "Daddy" porn.

by Anonymousreply 46January 28, 2019 2:19 PM

It's a weird photo. Maybe if he wasn't looking at his son seductively and manspreading and the son looking at him like "what are you doing" maybe it wouldn't be weird.

by Anonymousreply 47January 28, 2019 2:26 PM

r41 MARY!! Maybe if you'd take your head out of the gutter you'd see there's nothing wrong with it

r47 You're definitely reading too much into it, stop watching too much porn

by Anonymousreply 48January 28, 2019 2:28 PM

R40 raises the question that really matters - why is Rumer Willis so fug??

by Anonymousreply 49January 28, 2019 2:32 PM

The pic at r9 looks like the eldest sibling home from college, and mom makes him take a picture with his kid siblings.

He and Reese are both aging incredibly; those kids hit the genetic lottery, and they don't seem to be typical, annoying Hollywood brats.

by Anonymousreply 50January 28, 2019 2:40 PM

Lots of damaged gay guys with daddy issues, here. Not all of us gays had problems with their fathers. Some of us are very affectionate toward them and were loved.

by Anonymousreply 51January 28, 2019 2:42 PM

Unfortunately the son looks too much like his mom

by Anonymousreply 52January 28, 2019 2:42 PM

Yeah, Deacon is a facial clone of Reese and Ava is a facial clone of Ryan. Funny how genetics work out.

by Anonymousreply 53January 28, 2019 2:44 PM

Both look like both parents to me.

by Anonymousreply 54January 28, 2019 2:45 PM

I think it’s beautiful. It’s great when fathers and sons can exist and love each other with no hang ups. I see nothing wrong with any of it.

by Anonymousreply 55January 28, 2019 2:47 PM

I also think it's great father and son get along. I mean the little boy is likely (to anyone with eyes and ears) a young gayling, and having his dad's love and support is a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 56January 28, 2019 2:50 PM

I don't see it, OP. But then again I didn't grow up in an Anglo culture, so I haven't absorbed its paranoid hostility to physical contact between males.

by Anonymousreply 57January 28, 2019 2:57 PM

R2 I don’t think that’s his actual father, I think it’s his Hillsong “daddy” Lens.

by Anonymousreply 58January 28, 2019 3:04 PM
It looks perfectly normal, very far from t Tom brady territory. Filth is in the eye of the beholder.... Meanwhile the poor thing inherited his mother's chin...

There was nothing wrong with Tom Brady's interaction with his son. Certainly nothing wrong with this picture. This discussion is just a reminder of how broken and bereft most of us are before we land at DL.

by Anonymousreply 59January 28, 2019 3:05 PM

Stop gaslighting the OP. There is something odd about Ryan's expression and his son's overtly feminine body language.

by Anonymousreply 60January 28, 2019 3:08 PM

My dad is 70 and still hugs me and kisses me on the cheek.

by Anonymousreply 61January 28, 2019 3:08 PM

Some of you would choke clutching your pearls and see "red flags" everywhere if you ever go to a latin american country. I'm from Argentina and men here are overly affectionate with each other, dad and sons- friends- siblings, etc. so maybe that's why I, personally, don't find absolutely anything weird with this pic.

by Anonymousreply 62January 28, 2019 3:13 PM

All boys that age have feminine presentation. Don't be stupid.

by Anonymousreply 63January 28, 2019 3:13 PM

All the daddy issues trolls when all I said was I think it’s weird. I love my dad and we have a great relationship. But would I cuddle with him like that when I was a teenager or older? Of course not. It’s weird.

by Anonymousreply 64January 28, 2019 3:19 PM

R60 Even if that boy is indeed feminine, what is so weird about that? Do you understand where you are? Caftans, earrings, dialing with a pencil, etc.

by Anonymousreply 65January 28, 2019 3:21 PM

r64 Just because we don't agree with your opinion doesn't mean we're trolls OP

by Anonymousreply 66January 28, 2019 3:23 PM
All the daddy issues trolls when all I said was I think it’s weird. I love my dad and we have a great relationship. But would I cuddle with him like that when I was a teenager or older? Of course not. It’s weird.

it's not weird. What's incredibly sad is that you believe your father can't cuddle with you as a teen, because you somehow vilifiy affection. As the Argentinean poster pointed out, many cultures around the world, even those that are sexist toward women allow sons and fathers to show affection.

by Anonymousreply 68January 28, 2019 3:29 PM
But then again I didn't grow up in an Anglo culture, so I haven't absorbed its paranoid hostility to physical contact between males.

Ryan Phillippe is a WASP from Delaware. That's pretty fucking Anglo.

by Anonymousreply 69January 28, 2019 3:32 PM

he likes pussy

by Anonymousreply 70January 28, 2019 3:35 PM

Philippe is not a WASP name, it’s French.

by Anonymousreply 71January 28, 2019 3:36 PM

He also like to fuck guys in the ass. Lots of dirt about him from the crew guy in one of the recent gossip threads. Depressed, moody and insecure, too.

Phillippe is not the original family name, it was something Dutch or German.

by Anonymousreply 72January 28, 2019 3:37 PM

Ryan is nowhere as creepy as Tom Brady making out with his son. I guess you get desensitized when stuff like this comes out and then nothing bad happens to them.

by Anonymousreply 81January 28, 2019 4:09 PM

Tom Brady is just gross, did you see that video? He demands his son to kiss him on the lips. his son was disgusted and wiped the kiss away after. Kid is around 12? not sure.

by Anonymousreply 82January 28, 2019 4:10 PM

r73 Argentinian poster here, now I agree THAT is quite weird, but even then I guess the intention is what really matters, if he was raised that same way he may not see anything wrong with that, therefore is still innocent

by Anonymousreply 83January 28, 2019 4:13 PM

He's also an actor. Artists in general are very affectionate and much more prone to non straight sex too. It's even a stereotype, and rightly so.

by Anonymousreply 84January 28, 2019 4:21 PM

This thread is the direct result of toxic masculinity.

by Anonymousreply 85January 28, 2019 4:21 PM

I had photos of me and my dad sitting together like that...nothing is wrong with how Ryan is posing with his son. It looks affectionate and kind of sweet. We as men tend to paint ourselves into this corner which restricts us from expressing physicality towards one another. I thought Tom Brady kissing his son on the lips was a bit strange mainly because I despise him and his wife but I see this often.

by Anonymousreply 86January 28, 2019 4:22 PM

R81 Now try in English.

by Anonymousreply 87January 28, 2019 4:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 89January 28, 2019 4:56 PM
Ryan Philippe is one of the biggest messes I’ve ever encountered. He’s the definition of white male privilege and entitlement. He’s a raging drunk that falls over in public and gets into fights. He never got over his ex wife becoming bigger than him. He resents her career and all her success. He battles depression, a lot of it coming from his own self hatred and anger and feeling he should have the career so and so has. Also a homophobe whose also had his share of fun with the boys. He requested porn star Phenix Saint for a night. Grabbed his ass. Asked if he likes to get fucked. He’s the type that will fuck a dude in the ass then go on a homophobic rant.
Interesting take on Ryan. I spent quite a bit of time with him in 2011/2012 when I was crew on "DAMAGES' on which he was guest starring for part of the season. his first day on set we were on location in Queens. He arrived on set chain smoking and though not friendly, he was not hostile. He seemed VERY nervous. His first scene was with a NY actor playing a reporter (ala 60 minutes) interviewing Ryan's character. The first thing he said in HMU was "where is the guy I am doing my scen with" so they were introduced and Ryan just said " hey man, can we run lines" Which they did but the point is he seemed very nervous.
So soon after they are shooting the scene whcih was an outdoors walk and talk and some bystanders were noticing Ryan and started calling out to him which pissed him off. They were quickly dealt with but not before some woman yelled out " HEY ARE YOU SOMEBODY?" to which Ryan replied somewhat self depracatiingly "No, I am not somebody, but HE is, ( referring to the NY actor in the scene with him) He's been on Broadway, I was in "I know what you did last summer". Everyon laughed and he loosened up.
So we go back to shooting and the director asked Ryan and the other actor to improvise. I think he was wanting to loosen Ryan up. So they are doing the improv which is mostly the other actor talking and at what point he improvised something like " so what is it with you, no wife, no gf? " Ryan laughed and the guy went " dog ? cat? boyfriend" and Ryan said " all of the above" He seemed to playing along and enjoying it not bothered at all by a gay reference.
Rest of the shoot however, he was pretty sullen, smoked constantly and he told one of the crew he thought everyone hated him. He wasn't a dick, just weird, withdrawn but not homophobic

The only thing I see in the OP photo is a man who seems to love his son.

by Anonymousreply 91January 28, 2019 5:07 PM

Ryan is one of those guys whose face does not fit his body. He has a fabulously fit body, but if you look at his face alone you'd think he would be a much chunkier guy physically. That round full face that he has is what makes him look much younger than his real age. That fullness keeps the wrinkles away.

by Anonymousreply 92January 28, 2019 5:22 PM

The photo in R78 is normal and not weird. The photo the OP posted DOES have weird undertones even if nothing is overt.

by Anonymousreply 93January 28, 2019 5:46 PM
My dad is 70 and still hugs me and kisses me on the cheek.

That’s not weird.

Now, if you tell us you curl up on the sofa in your shorts, snuggle under your 70 year old dad’s armpit, gaze longingly into his eyes while he spreads his loins, have someone snap a photo, and then post it all over Insta-Chat or whatever bullshit propaganda program is popular at the moment, then that is weird.

And if teen boys spooning with daddy in front of a roaring fire and a camera is perfectly normal in your culture, how wonderful! But it’s not that common in the US. Which is why we’re talking about it.

He is the one celebrity who I could never find not hot no matter what he did. Totally my kryptonite. Simply stunning, now and always. A literal god.

by Anonymousreply 96January 28, 2019 7:39 PM

People in the movie/TV industry are so untrustworthy and backstabbing that I can see why he would be skittish around others he's not really familiar with on sets. I can't imagine having to work in that type of environment. No wonder so many actors end up paranoid wrecks.

by Anonymousreply 97January 28, 2019 7:55 PM

Can we just say different family dynamics and move on? Is someone trying to Murder She Wrote this and crack the case, or what is the point of speculating weird shit? It is unlikely he would be broadcasting an abusive relationship to 800,000 followers. If something were awry, authorities would pick up on it and investigate it. So what is the point of all this bickering?

by Anonymousreply 98January 28, 2019 9:44 PM

One of the Drag Race queens mentioned that Reese takes really smelly dumps. The queen was backstage and a lesbian producer was in the washroom with Reese; when the lesbian came out she apparently waved her hand in front of her nose as in Reese takes smelly dumps.

Don't remember the queen exactly but search "look at huh" and Mimi Imfurst or Derrick Barry on YouTube. I wish I had a story like that!

by Anonymousreply 110January 28, 2019 11:25 PM

Of course the weirdos with unresolved daddy issues would find nothing wrong with the pic, but it looks weird. The gaze from Phillippe is incredibly uncomfortable and the sons body language is that of a submissive concubine.

If this was a pic of two adult guys and you didn't know them you'd say they were lovers and fucking.

by Anonymousreply 111January 28, 2019 11:26 PM

Ryan finally looks like a top, in the presence of a 15-year-old.

No it’s not. ENOUGH.

This isn’t a commentary on their specific relationship, just the image. Imagine a young woman’s head photoshopped onto Ryan’s son’s body. The picture would look unequivocally romantic, like a magazine ad with the male model holding a delicate young woman in a protective romantic embrace. It may be that they were moving and the boy was caught in an odd position instead of lounging that way. It may be that that is his natural way of positioning himself. But the composition of the figures and the body language is probably what makes many people feel something is “off.” It’s a type of pose used commonly in sensual advertisements. But that doesn’t mean it is showing us a sexual situation.

OP, there is no "e" in judgment,

by Anonymousreply 119January 29, 2019 12:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 120January 29, 2019 12:11 AM

Ryan's just a typical Hollywood dad (total Narcissist)...

Who's just trying to enjoy some private time with his son (while using his son as a prop and broadcasting it on IG)....

by Anonymousreply 127January 29, 2019 12:59 AM

R107 pretty sure that's his niece. He doesn't seem to acknowledge his youngest daughter on social media at all.

by Anonymousreply 128January 29, 2019 1:19 AM
If this was a pic of two adult guys and you didn't know them you'd say they were lovers and fucking.

Except it is NOT two adult guys. It is a father and his son -- a relationship that has its own intimacy. He just has his arm around his child -- his son -- why should that trouble anyone? And if Tom Brady wants to playfully humiliate his pre-teen son who believes he is too old to receive affection from his father, then that's his business.

Our adult gay relationships are complicated by distant or non-existent relationships with our fathers. All of that baggage has to be carried by your partner. If the picture is genuinely troubling to anyone you should seek help.

Ryan's hideous tattoos. Such a shame.

by Anonymousreply 134January 29, 2019 6:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 135January 29, 2019 6:06 AM
Men who post that many selfies/photos of themselves almost always have some sort of personality disorder.

You say this like being an actor didn't already indicate that fact.

by Anonymousreply 136January 29, 2019 6:08 AM

Y'all are pretty naive to imagine that Ryan Philippe manages his own social media.

by Anonymousreply 137January 31, 2019 1:08 PM

I see nothing wrong with that photo. Many in the younger generation of fathers have less hang-ups about showing affection to male children, and that's what this looks like to me.

That being said, I'm hightailing it over to IG for some Ryan hotness. If I see any weirdness there, I'll amend.

by Anonymousreply 138January 31, 2019 1:15 PM

"Younger?" He's in his mid-40s.

by Anonymousreply 139January 31, 2019 1:31 PM

Ryan is Gen X. He’s not a Millenial.

He just looks young. He will be 45 this year.

R138, younger?

by Anonymousreply 148February 1, 2019 4:32 AM

Ryan looks amazing for mid-40s, in certain photos he could pass for late 20s. And he's been a smoker, drinker and recreational drug user for decades! With some people, it all just comes down to genetics. They can do whatever unhealthy shit they want to their bodies, and it never shows.

by Anonymousreply 171February 1, 2019 2:37 PM

R171 I always say that on here. Too many people don’t realize how GENETICS play a role for some people.

My stepdad was a pack a day smoker since he was like 10. No lie. He’s in his 50s now and still could pass for 15 years younger and is as healthy as a dog. He has great genetics.

by Anonymousreply 172February 1, 2019 2:40 PM

Guys, seriousky, look at photos of him taken in 2018. Yes, he has always been objectively beautiful, but his face now shows that he has without any question had some sort of eyelid surgery and has either Botox or hyaluronic acid fillers. It’s undeniable. And if he has had that done, then he probably also gets laser resurfacing to eliminate aging lines, etc. All of that is fine, but it completely undermines the “it’s all perfect genes” theory.

by Anonymousreply 173February 1, 2019 3:08 PM

R173 barely. Cause prior he was natural.

It took him longer to feel the need for work than most

by Anonymousreply 174February 1, 2019 3:12 PM

Son looks a lot like Reese Witherspoon.

by Anonymousreply 175February 1, 2019 3:13 PM

R174 He is only 44. Most people, even women, don’t have cosmetic eye surgery at that age. And who knows when he began?

by Anonymousreply 176February 1, 2019 3:20 PM

Lmao you don’t know Hollywood or 2019 if you think young people aren’t getting plastic surgery

by Anonymousreply 177February 1, 2019 3:26 PM

r173 cosmetic surgery can only do so much. Genes play a huge part in it.

by Anonymousreply 178February 1, 2019 3:29 PM

Jennifer Aniston is another one with great genetics. No, I am NOT one of her crazy stans, I'm just pointing out a fact. Of course she's had some laser work done, but for a 50 year-old smoker and drinker she looks amazing.

by Anonymousreply 179February 1, 2019 3:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 181February 1, 2019 5:33 PM

Regular people too. Girls all use fake hair, get lip injections, nose jobs are common etc.

Social media has made cosmetic surgery thrive more than ever

by Anonymousreply 182February 1, 2019 6:28 PM

Most of you are creeped out because you want to be in the son's position.

by Anonymousreply 183February 1, 2019 6:32 PM

I see nothing wrong with this. I love seeing dads that love their sons so much they aren’t afraid to show them affection and love. There’s nothing sexual about this.

by Anonymousreply 184February 1, 2019 6:41 PM

Everyone in Phillipe's home state of Delaware know's he's gay. Someone who had sex with him said he smelled literary like shit.

by Anonymousreply 185February 1, 2019 6:48 PM

So he smelled like a really bad romance novel?

by Anonymousreply 186February 1, 2019 6:52 PM

^ I love the Dora Dumbfuck troll, because he’s so wonderfully ill informed and so easily provoked into spastic rages.

by Anonymousreply 187February 1, 2019 6:57 PM

r186 He did. And his stage mother pimped him out. If you knew (not OLD New Castle where the elite live), but New Castle, DE where he came from, those parents would do anything to get their children out.

by Anonymousreply 188February 1, 2019 6:59 PM

Ryan Phillippe did not have a stage mother.

by Anonymousreply 189February 1, 2019 8:49 PM

Phillippes mom is anything but a stage mom.

by Anonymousreply 190February 1, 2019 9:11 PM

Too bad they nixed the gay storyline in 54.

by Anonymousreply 191February 2, 2019 3:05 AM

R191 they edited the whole movie to suck. The original movie was superior. You can get it on iTunes. It’s superior in every way.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 192February 2, 2019 3:07 AM

Harvey Weinstein gutted that movie while letting an Asian trans-themed movie called [italic]That's The Way I Like It[/italic] out uncut.

by Anonymousreply 193February 2, 2019 3:09 AM

Because he wanted “54” to cater to the mainstream and it had a mainstream release.

“That’s The Way I Like It” wasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 194February 2, 2019 3:12 AM

What audience wanted a movie about Studio 54 with all the drugs and none of the gay sex?

by Anonymousreply 195February 2, 2019 3:13 AM

R195 1998 America wasnt that accepting of gays. They had straight sex to sell to their straight audiences. Same audience that watched Boogie Nights.

You all forget that things weren’t always how they are now.

by Anonymousreply 196February 2, 2019 3:15 AM

R166, I think that gif is from "I Know What You Did Last Summer", not "Little Boy Blue".

by Anonymousreply 197February 2, 2019 3:16 AM

That same America also made hits out of [italic]Mrs. Doubtfire, The Birdcage[/italic], and [italic]In & Out[/italic]. I think they were ready for this.

by Anonymousreply 198February 2, 2019 3:19 AM

R198 Mrs. Doubtfire was a dad in Drag to see his kids. Not a gay story.

Birdcage was a comedy as was In&Out.

People always embraced comedies with gays that make them laugh. They don’t wanna see gays snorting coke and fucking.

You really can’t see the difference?!

by Anonymousreply 199February 2, 2019 3:22 AM

They didn't cut it for the benefit of kids, R199. They turned it into a glorified promo for [italic]All My Children[/italic], making it all the more puzzling that Cameron Mathison's role ended up mostly on the cutting room floor.

Miramax also had a controversy over a 1996 movie called [italic]Priest[/italic] about a gay priest. Even that was cut in the US but not in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 200February 2, 2019 3:24 AM
[R198] Mrs. Doubtfire was a dad in Drag to see his kids.

You're welcome.

by Anonymousreply 201February 2, 2019 3:24 AM

Weinstein basically threw Mark Christopher's directorial career on the sword to prop up Rob Marshall's.

by Anonymousreply 202February 2, 2019 3:25 AM

R201 they weren’t promoted nor big parts of the film. Nor did we see them snorting coke and fucking.

There are people in 2019 that walked out of BoRhap for having a gay kiss and A Dogs Way Home for showing a gay couple. You think 21 years ago they were ready for gay sex? USE. COMMON. SENSE.

by Anonymousreply 203February 2, 2019 3:31 AM

They weren't showing hardcore anal, R203. I actually think the kiss was kind of sweet.

by Anonymousreply 204February 2, 2019 3:39 AM

R203 is correct.

While it's true that Harvey Fierstein played the gay brother of Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire", it was a comedy role.

And audiences even in more recent years have had a problem with gay kisses. If you listen to the DVD Commentary for "Dorian Gray" starring Ben Barnes, the director says that a few women walked out of the premiere when they saw the scene of Ben kissing another man. And this was in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 205February 2, 2019 3:39 AM

[italic]The Brady Bunch Movie[/italic] had homosexuality all over it. RuPaul was in it, Marcia's best friend was a lesbian, and there was a gay male couple in a neighborhood crowd scene. Still made money. They gambled that its fan base would accept open homosexuality and won.

by Anonymousreply 206February 2, 2019 3:42 AM

R206. Again. A comedy.

And I liked the kiss. But Weinstein screened it numerous times and after a few screenings decided to cut all that out. There’s a reason but he never made that reason clear.

I’m sure the reception to the gay subplot turned some off.

by Anonymousreply 207February 2, 2019 3:46 AM

So he gutted the plot to appease a few bigots. Meanwhile, a film that covered up Shakespeare's bisexuality won Best Picture. It was also from Miramax.

by Anonymousreply 208February 2, 2019 3:48 AM

A few? You must not be from America.

by Anonymousreply 209February 2, 2019 3:50 AM

The hell I'm not. The excuses for cutting the film don't hold water when the theatrical cut made no sense and was still rated R anyway.

by Anonymousreply 210February 2, 2019 3:52 AM

They also cut Erika Alexander's part completely.

by Anonymousreply 211February 2, 2019 3:52 AM

As was recently discussed on the 'Alexander' thread, look at how difficult it was for Oliver Stone just to include a small amount of gay stuff between Colin Farrell & Jared Leto. They didn't even get to kiss -- they never got past the hugging stage.

by Anonymousreply 212February 2, 2019 3:54 AM

Guess she didn’t bode will with screeners also

by Anonymousreply 213February 2, 2019 3:54 AM

And then there's "Westworld" -- why is there virtually no gay content?

One of the male characters was involved in a male-female-male threesome, but the guys didn't even really touch.

by Anonymousreply 214February 2, 2019 3:56 AM

In Magic Mike Soderberg (however it’s spelled) wanted Pettyfer and Bomer to hook up in that scene where Bomer let’s him play with his wife’s tits etc. and they keep saying I love you man to each other.

They wouldn’t allow him to have that. So he left the scene open with them looking at each other to imply something happened that night.

by Anonymousreply 215February 2, 2019 3:56 AM

R214 CAUSE ITS ALL CATERED TO THE MAJORITY, STRAIGHT PEOPLE.

I’m a 31 year old gay man and even I know how it all works. It’s not right but this is our reality. Not the bright rainbows the media tries to claim.

by Anonymousreply 216February 2, 2019 3:58 AM

Let me add that in MFM 3somes where both males are straight, the men don’t touch.

by Anonymousreply 217February 2, 2019 4:00 AM

The same year as the premiere of a stupid sitcom that depicts gay men as either sexless mopes or amoral sluts, I don't buy that.

by Anonymousreply 218February 2, 2019 4:01 AM

Smh. Then don’t buy it and keep asking the same question with the answers right in front of you.

by Anonymousreply 219February 2, 2019 4:05 AM

R217, the character Ben Barnes plays on Westworld was supposed to be bisexual, and yet he barely touched the other guy.

by Anonymousreply 220February 2, 2019 5:52 AM

R220 i said why already. You all wanna play blind, go on.

by Anonymousreply 221February 2, 2019 12:45 PM

It’s true that 20 years ago gay men (and women, I suppose) were shown to the mainstream only as innocuous sidekicks and essentially a similar role as “the fool” in Shakespeare-era plays: feigning lighthearted foolishness while imparting truths and wisdom in a way that benefits the protagonist without ever becoming significant. by Anonymousreply 237March 1, 2019 6:49 AM

I liked Shooter but I can see no other network picking it up due to the show's drama. They had a shortened season because Phillippe busted up his leg, the production and Omar Epps was sued by an actress who got hurt filming with Epps and accused him of purposely hurting her and the abuse charges that Phillippe's ex brought up against him.

How did he get that weird-ass mothballs-in-his-mouth accent? I’ve never heard another person from Delaware who speaks like he does?

by Anonymousreply 253March 2, 2019 12:51 AM

Ryan Phillippe stars in modern-day Frankenstein pilot for CBS. Aaron Staton plays the Frankenstein character.

I don't know, but Ryan was the most famous guy from Delaware until Joe Biden became Vice-President.

by Anonymousreply 255March 24, 2019 1:45 PM

His manner of speaking has always freaked me out. His casting in Gosford Park was absolutely inspired.

And although he is preternaturally gorgeous and his body still makes my mouth water, the freaky eyelid surgery and fillers showcased in R244 makes me see a Wayne Newton in the making. Please, Ryan, for thw love of God, just age. Please. No more freakshows.

by Anonymousreply 256March 24, 2019 1:57 PM

if hot ryan were my daddy, I would make his every wish cum tru, and be an obedient son who gives his poppa best back rubs ever !!!

by Anonymousreply 257March 24, 2019 2:04 PM

how could ryan have slept with the odious reese ???

by Anonymousreply 258March 24, 2019 2:06 PM

I'm not seeing any eye lift on him.

by Anonymousreply 259March 24, 2019 2:08 PM

He was young & dumb & full of cum, R258.

Most guys will bang anything at that age.

by Anonymousreply 260March 24, 2019 2:09 PM

yet, reese? the bimbo of bimbos? so sad he must deal with her for 18 yrs.....

by Anonymousreply 261March 24, 2019 2:13 PM

R259 Seriously? He has the same wide-eyed post-op effect that Renee Zellweger has. He didn’t have epicanthic folds like she did, but compare his eyes 20 years ago to today. He has had upper eyelid lifts.

r262 he's squinting in the pic on the left. His eyes look nothing like the disaster that happened to Renee Z.

by Anonymousreply 263March 24, 2019 2:20 PM

His eyebrows are too thin for a male, but other than that, he's hard to fault.

by Anonymousreply 264March 24, 2019 2:21 PM

“Ageless” = Botox and fillers + a society of people who over time have come to visually interpret weirdly puffy, wrinkle-free faces as “ageless.” Show it to someone 50 years ago, and they would think someone like Madonna had a terrible infection.

by Anonymousreply 265March 24, 2019 2:22 PM

Could you translate that into English please, R265?

by Anonymousreply 266March 24, 2019 2:26 PM

R265, I think what has happened that wrinkles used to be a sign of age and now the puffy wrinkle free face is what looks old.

That picture of Ryan makes him look a lot older than 45.

by Anonymousreply 267March 24, 2019 2:43 PM

Still a babe

by Anonymousreply 268March 24, 2019 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 269March 25, 2019 12:22 AM

E254 - stick a fork in that "forever young" face, cause it's done.

by Anonymousreply 270March 30, 2019 1:31 AM

R254

by Anonymousreply 271March 30, 2019 1:31 AM

OP is a pedo

by Anonymousreply 272March 30, 2019 1:34 AM

R265 looks like a refreshed gay retiree still up for dick.

by Anonymousreply 273March 30, 2019 1:34 AM
he has the golden light

What does this mean?

by Anonymousreply 274March 30, 2019 2:00 AM

Maybe, R272, more likely the incest troll.

by Anonymousreply 275March 30, 2019 2:31 AM

I think it’s a little bizarre. It’s inappropriate for a boy his age to be that close to his father. Obviously the child will be a queer.

I would never sit like that with my father at that age.

by Anonymousreply 276March 30, 2019 2:34 AM

Oh, Ryan. So dumb and so demanding.

by Anonymousreply 277March 30, 2019 4:04 PM

He is obviously molesting that kid.

by Anonymousreply 278March 30, 2019 4:53 PM

If I was his son I would demand to be molested.
