It will be Roma.

by Anonymousreply 1January 20, 2019 7:41 PM

Go Green Book!

I hate Bradley Cooper.

by Anonymousreply 2January 20, 2019 7:42 PM

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 3January 20, 2019 7:49 PM

that's too bad. Green Book is deeply flawed. Who produced?

by Anonymousreply 4January 20, 2019 7:52 PM

Jim Burke, Charles B. Wessler, Brian Currie, Peter Farrelly and Nick Vallelonga.

Yes, this is a Farrelly Brother movie. I guess that accounts for the ethnic stereotype humor and strangely having this film categorized as "Comedy" at other awards groups.

You all remember the Farrelly Brothers, right?

R6, I see

by Anonymousreply 7January 20, 2019 8:02 PM

As long as Glenn wins the Oscar, things are fine.

by Anonymousreply 8January 20, 2019 8:05 PM

I never understood the fuss about A Star Is Born. Was I the only one who thought it was boring and predictable and Lady Gaga was wooden?

by Anonymousreply 9January 20, 2019 8:12 PM

As long as rat faced closet creep Bradley Cooper and Miss Lady Caca don't win a thing, then I'm good with anyone else winning.

by Anonymousreply 10January 20, 2019 8:16 PM

R9 Far from alone

by Anonymousreply 11January 20, 2019 8:18 PM

Are these the Farrelly brothers who own the infamous porn theater in San Francisco?

by Anonymousreply 12January 20, 2019 8:18 PM

Those are the MITCHELL Brothers of the O’FARRELL Theater.

They’re pornographers.

There IS a difference between Hollywood and pornography.

by Anonymousreply 13January 20, 2019 8:44 PM

r13 Since they're both dead (one killed the other, and the other one died from heart attack some years later), your use of the present tense is misleading.

The Mitchell Brothers movie would've been called "Behind the Green Book."

by Anonymousreply 15January 20, 2019 9:10 PM

Nobody even cares about the Oscars anymore. They've given way too many awards to undeserving people lately. The fact lady fug is even considered is laughable. She plays herself and does a decent job but Oscar worthy? Not even close. It's a joke. And that song Mark Ronson wrote for the movie is also not worthy. I see she once again finagled a writing credit like she did with Diane Warren. Such a fraud and desperate for awards. That is her validation since she isn't popular nor successful in music.

That being said, this is one of the worst years even in movies.

The Mitchell Brothers movie was called RATED X!

Funny!!! I lived in SF when the Mitchell Bros went nuts. It was fucking crazy.

Just saw "Green Book" today and loved it. (I'm very sentimental. I hope it wins.) Green Book was produced by Nick Vallelonga who is the son of the man portrayed by Viggo Mortensen in the movie. I loved the story and was surprised to see his son as the producer in the credits. Turns out he's had a long career in showbiz starting out as a kid in the wedding scene of The Godfather.

by Anonymousreply 18January 22, 2019 11:07 PM

Mahershala Ali actually did his own playing in the movie. LOVED him in Moonlight. I didn't recognize him at first. Looks like he lost weight and Mortensen gained weight to play these roles.

Yes, the Oscars and most awards shows suck the last few years.

by Anonymousreply 20January 22, 2019 11:19 PM

I don't agree with that.

by Anonymousreply 21January 23, 2019 12:00 AM

I saw the trailer but I don't know if i can handle all stereotypes. Unless the movie finally answers the gravy vs sauce debate.

R16, if "nobody cares about the Oscars anymore," including you, then why are you visiting threads about it? And as far as your peevish disdain of Lady Gaga--you're entitled not to like her, but don't mischaracterize the extent of her success. To say she "isn't popular nor successful in music" simply makes you sound like an ignoramus, since your statement is patently false. The woman has released seven albums since she came on the scene ten years ago; all seven reached the Top Five and five of them reached #1, including both the ASIB soundtrack and her last studio album, Joanne. Get your facts straight, loser, and I say this as someone who doesn't even own a Lady Gaga album.

Let’s stop pretending that the award is any more subjective and political than it’s always been. People didn’t just stop caring about Oscar. They stopped caring about most awards shows. Times change. This is not 1982 and we’re not all sitting at home watching ABC, NBC or CBS. Few “movie stars” can open a film. And even if they can. The much of what the Academy’s picks are films that most of the viewing public has not seen. Which is not to say that those films are less worthy than past Academy picks. Viewers however are not going to tune in to see an awards show centered around movies they have not seen. And many people just aren’t interested in any awards shows anymore. Again, times change.
