Am I dying? Is this like the scent of toast before a seizure, but the odor of vinegar before...what?

Do you live near that DLer that was asking about what meth smelled like? You should contact him and solve the case.

Straight guys smell like vinegar because of their bad hygiene. That rancid smell might be coming from yourself.....

Do you also have visions of meat curtains?

Have you bathed...ever?

Did you drink alot last night, OP? Big drinking causes a vinegary skin smell as it is sweated out through your skin.

Last night I grabbed a coffee at a deli and smelled it coming from the trash. Then I went home and took a bath. Like a real bath, soaking in water and sea salts for an hour. Then I smelled it vaguely a few times this morning while I was running errands. And then really strongly again while I was doing a little home repair. And then I made brunch and couldn’t eat the jam because it reeks of vinegar to me. So, at this point, I think I’m smelling things wrong. Am I dying?

If you're a douche, it could be the vinegar and water.

Last year I had an episode that lasted about 3 weeks were I was bothered by the constant sensation of strong noxious smells. I was concerned enough to get an MRI. Nothing was found so my Dr speculated it was a virus of some sort.

Phantosmia (phantom smell), also called an olfactory hallucination or a phantom odor is smelling an odor that is not actually there. ... A physician can determine if the problem is with the sense of smell (olfactory system) or taste (gustatory system), or if it is caused by a neurological or psychiatric disorder.

So, I am dying...of a hallucinatory virus.

If you don’t have any dietary changes, and the aroma persists after showering or bathing, then maybe it’s your clothing Did you recently put away a load of laundry while it was still damp? If you use an interior clothesline, is it in a room with a source of bad odors (like a cat litter box) nearby?

I did do laundry recently, but I’ve now smelled it while wearing three different things including a new hat and my old paint covered clothes for messy projects and I washed my hair and whole body in between.

A: DOOOUUCHE!!!!!!

It’s the smell of death.

Did you check your teeth, your breath? It's probably coming from your throat or mouth, or your nose itself. I remember a slightly vinegary smell after a root canal. I ended up with a nosebleed preceded by what I called an ammonia smell, but maybe you'd call it vinegar. It was from my root canal, which hadn't been drained properly.

I had got a mild case of tb about 20 years ago, and still remember there was a distinct smell that would come out in my sweat with the fever. Very odd. Something like "fresh batter and rust". Even months later when I was better I would get the occasional wiff of the odor when I started to sweat. Some nurses can become very attuned to peoples body smells and can use this sense as a diagnostic tool.
